The Manor is simply amazing- probably the oldest inhabited building; to be able to sit in a room that still has its original medieval architectural highlights, added to which are the period additions made during the Norman , Tudor and Georgian ownership , is absolutely astonishing. Diana Boston, is the perfect host, her knowledge of the buildings history unrivalled ,... More

Thank you Diana Boston for opening your amazing 900 year old house to the public and for allowing me to go back, once again to my childhood world of Green Knowe. The storytelling event was an added bonus and the MR James ghost stories worked brilliantly in the cold, candlelit Norman hall.

I read the Green Knowe books many years ago and didn't really realise they were set in a real house till I was reading the books to my own children quite recently - so we had to visit! It was a wonderful experience - like stepping back into my own childhood - and the house encapsulates so much factual history... More

We visited this amazing historic house for two reasons, my love of the Green Knows books and to attend an MR James Ghost Story evening being held by candlelight in the 900 year old music room. It was an atmospheric evening to say the least, and well worth attending. We returned next day for a pre-arranged tour of the house... More

Having been a fan of the Green Knowe books since childhood, it was a wonderful experience to see the house that inspired them. Everything is exactly as it was when Lucy Boston wrote the books and it remains a magical place. The guided tours are led by Diane Boston, Lucy's daughter in law and her memories bring the house to... More

On holiday in the area, we called in to visit the garden only. The Manor is situated down a cul-de-sac just off a road which is also a cul-de-sac, so parking is not easy and the village street is narrow. Easiest access is probably on foot from the tow path. However, having managed to park , the garden is certainly... More

I have been to Lucy Boston's house three times over the last year and every time I have learnt something new. Diana the daughter in law of Lucy Boston who guides you round the house gives an amazing insight into the life of the house over the past 300 years. Whenever I have people staying with me for a couple... More

A personally guided of the owner of the house, the daughter in law of the author Lucy Boston who based her Green Knowe children's books which were based in and around the house and grounds . Walking along a path by the river Ouse near Hemingford, we saw a little gate that led to the wonderful garden of Hemingford Manor, one of the oldest houses in Britain, and the home of Lucy Boston, author of 'Green Knowe' childrens books which were based on the house and garden. We followed the signs to the 'hidden garden' and... More
