Although I appreciate the history of the Bonaventure Cemetery, it’s simply a cemetery. There were no guides, the office was closed and there were no maps or brochures available. I wouldn’t recommend taking the time to visit.

Easy to get to, and easy walking. We did not take the tour but did use the guide that they provided and were able to find everything we wanted to see. Even found some distant relatives

Beautiful, peaceful cemetery set on a former plantation on the Wilmington River - stunning location that is full of interesting and historical markers. I recommend getting the map and stopping for a closer look at some of the beautiful headstones - many with sculptures. The...More

This place is huge, so it’s not a bad idea to take a tour. We chose instead to drive in and walk through the more picturesque sections, with the aid of a map bought at the visitor centre. You could easily get lost though. The...More

Never thought I'd be reviewing a cemetery but here we are. Only had time to drive thru but it was worth it. Calm, peaceful, and a beautiful place. The moss, the history, the feeling of serenity. Would love to return and spend a day wandering...More

I went here in the daytime with my family. We only drove through because of time constraints. This is a must see! Large enough to spend hours here! Many great sculptures and old headstones. Beautiful! There are maps at the entrance and free tours offered...More

So many interesting graves. It is so large we were lost, but worth it. It is not too far from the Historic District.

Bonaventure is a historic cemetery with beautiful monuments. Whether you’re trying to locate a loved one or a historic figure, the computer system allows you to locate the exact spot. This Cemetery would take several days to walk its entirety.

I took an Uber from the historic district and we traveled by highway part of the way, so it’s hard to know if there would be a safe bike route that did not include the highway. The neighborhood surrounding the cemetery... More

We bought a map and did a self-guided tour. They have graphics of the well-known and big statues obviously shown on the map, as well as graves of historical interest. However, there's probably some insight in a guided tour... More
