My husband is obsessed with ships, especially tall ships, so this museum was a perfect fit for him! I especially LOVED the ship that was used in Pirates Of The Caribbean! The Star of India had a lot of information about the people who immigrated...More

Great for families, Where else can you tour submarines, sailing ships, Spanish galleons...plus the Star of India. Very educational and a wonderful way to spend a few hours going back in time.

This museum consists of 7 boats to explore (including 2 submarines). Unfortunately not all are original (one is a replica made for a film for example) which is a shame but unavoidable. I enjoyed all the boats (especially the Russian sub) but I felt the...More

Does it count if you have a wedding reception on deck? We didn’t quite make it inside, but we walked by, around, and looked over the side. We did go on board “The Star of India”, and the ferry boat. Definitely going to see the...More

The Star of India is very impressive and the Russian sub is even more so. First time inside a Russian sub. Thank goodness we both fit.

Russian Sub(great history there) plus the oldest sailing vessel? Enjoy! So much to see here you don't want to try and match it with the Midway tour. Take a few days off in between and do them. ENjoy San Diego travelers. You can't go wrong...More

Just completed a visit to the San Diego Maritime Museum 1/2 mile up from the famed USS Midway. It was great from a standpoint of capturing the evolution of sea going vessels. They have an old British frigate that was used for the movie Master...More

I took my 84 year old mom on the Swift Boat Tour followed by walking around the docked ships. It wasn't crowded on a Sunday. We both loved every minute of our time spent here. The staff was wonderfully kind to my mom. We even...More

You can enter the gift shop for free but anything past that on the pier requires a paid admission. From the public walkway the largest tall ship is about a 100 feet away.

Very close. If you are the slightest claustrophobic I would recommend not going into the submarine.

Hello there! We recommend between 1.5 and 2 hours to see the whole museum. You can definitely stay longer as there is quite a bit of history here and some "on the water" add-on activities you can do.
