Good beach park in the south shore of Kauai. Poipu beach is good for snorkeling, especially for kids, because of the shallow water. However, you should also pay attention, because you can also easily cut yourself on the reefs. There is quite a variety of...More
Great parking....sandy beach....lava area of beach....pavilions...restrooms....etc I actually went to this beach twice since if you are coming off the main road across southern Kauai, you approach it through the Tunnel of Trees road. Also, it is only 30 minutes or so from Lihue.
Definitely rent an umbrella and snorkel equipment before heading to this beach. Very easy snorkeling on one side and swimming on the other. Also a great place to spot (from a distance of course!) turtles and a monk seal in the morning.

This by far is one of the nicest beaches on Kauai, it's definitely perfect for a family with kids. It offers a bay type beach without breakers to knock people over, while on the other side there is a bit of a shore break to...More

If not expensive rent an island taxi and have them take you to poipu beach It is a public beach and free. The sand and water are great and it’s such a nice beach to visit. We had rented a car for our stay so I am not sure of the cost if too expensive there must be a public beach in Lihue somewhere. When in Hawaii go swimming!! Good Luck
