We drove south on broadway street and wound up driving in the elk refuge without any fences around us. Unfortunately the elk are still up high until winter but it was exciting to be so close to the refuge.

Loved the Tetons but pass on all the hype of the city. Saw a lot of elk and heard their bugling. Such a wonderful experience.

The visitor center is great. The staff are helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and fun, It was still too early in the season for there to be many elk in the refuge itself, but the center gave us great information.

If you have the time, the House circa (1890) is only about 2 miles from the town square. It was the site of the original refuge Supt's home, and 2 others after him. The tour is interesting and worth the time. House is open May...More

The elk don't come down to the valley until snow drives them down. I am sure it is a spectacular sight when they do get there but no snow, no elk, no reason to go.

No. This is a very large tract of land intended to provide protection for the elk. There are no facilities for interaction, only an observation platform and educational exhibits at the visitors center.

Enough snow for this activity is 50/50 before December 25th. You could luck out with a good early winter there or not enough. The peaks will have snow to make it picture perfect but enough for a sleigh ride. Planning an... More
