It's an odd structure, a stone octagon in "German art nouveau" style.

Great views, interesting 1920's construction, but could be a lot more inside. Docents are interesting and funny. Extremely crowded even in October. Do stop, worth the stop, but there are many downsides.

Drive up and take another picture of the Columbia River. More fun on the River. Some history of the area.

Great views, even on a lightly misty day. The access up Historic US 30 from the east is lengthy but scenic, and reaching the top at Vista House also rewards you with an interesting building and displays inside. Caution: Parking can be a showstopper here...More

We visit the Columbia River Gorge every year, usually over the Labor Day weekend. There's so much going on in Portland, Hood River and elsewhere. This year we stopped at the appropriately named Vista House. The view was amazing.

The view is great but of course you knew that otherwise they wouldn't have built this thing here. A short drive from Portland means crowds. GO EARLY or go late. Parking is tough.

This is visible from afar and just draws you in. Once on site you are entranced by a breathtaking 300° view of the river. The building is pretty and has a volunteer staffing a table talking about the site. A small exhibit explains the building...More

Came here as part of a tour while on a cruise on the Columbia River. The historic building is over 100 years old and was constructed as a glorious rest stop, perched up high, overlooking the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. On the lower level, there...More

Do not miss this attraction. The view is awesome. Try not to go on a weekend, since the traffic is impossible.

Neat building. Greta views. Three levels, with a nice viewing platform on the top level. Basement has a nice museum and a pretty decent gift shop. Definitely worth the stop if you can find parking.
