You have to plan to get here, only accessible by plane or boat, but if you want to see wildlife. You shouldn't miss it. Take a boat trip and a night walk to the beach.

A trip by boat through the canals of the national park is an epic experience. We saw numerous birds, iguanas etc and an otter sitting on a rock. The trip really did remind me of the film 'The African Queen'!

Absolutely wonderful experience. The best things I did while in Tortuguero were the early morning canoe trip and the night-time turtle viewing trip. The latter was really magical--a great guide, and huge, beautiful turtles laying eggs, covering them, and going back into the Caribbean.

The turlte tours actually require you to buy the national park tickets, so do the canoe tours in the morning. So if you have the national park ticket, use it to take a stroll in the forest, it is about 2,5 kms walk one way,...More

This village is absolutely amazing and getting to the park itself by boat is a great experience too. The park is beautiful and very dense, more likely to see animals when it’s not raining. The beach is pretty during sunset too, just outside the park....More

You cannot walk from Parismina to Tortuguero, but you can get there by boat. There are boat taxis available and would not be too expensive.
