Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Huangpu River, also known as Huangxiepu or Chunshen River, is a landmark of Shanghai, separating the city into two parts, Pudong and Puxi. With a total length of 113 km. It is nice place to walk especially at night.

In many years of Tripadvisor use I have never written specifically to warn travellers away from a certain destination or experience. Just want to advise Shanghai travellers hoping to discover the rich history and architecture on both sides of the Huangpu River in central Shanghai to be sure to choose a tour that includes at least minimal commentary. I expected such from yesterday's 1-hour Huangpu River Tour but instead listened to the same stream of insipid music with zero commentary.

Morning, afternoon, evening, or at night the river area is worth some of your time. The city views change minute by minute. The sights, the sounds, and experiences change with each step you take. Plenty of places to stop and sit or grab a coffee. Both sides of the river offer several venues for eating, drinking, and shopping. Several river cruise opportunities as well (day or night). Our recommendation, go anytime you can; however, be aware that holidays and dinner time (17:00-21:00) can be rather busy along the river, so mass transit will be your best option. If you have only 24 hours in the city, spend 30 minutes along the river, but be aware one could un-knowingly walk for hours along the river. Enjoy.

We visited the Huangpu River on a tour in August 2019. We had an option of taking a cruise on the river to enjoy the night lights on the buildings beside the river. The cruise went for approximately 1 hour. However, we chose to take a walk along the river and watched the same night lights from the river banks. Whether you choose to take the 1 hour cruise, or take a stroll beside the river, it is worth the time and effort to see a lovely light show. There are plenty of spots along the river to view the lights, and from the river banks, you can also see the cruise boats lit up as they float along the river. The bonus is that you're not confined to a crowded space. Very enjoyable evening.

This is a prominent river running through central Shanghai. The Bund, a very famous tourist spot is situated on the banks of this river. Very good place for a stroll along the banks if not too hot.

A nice experience. A great view of the illuminated buildings on the shoreline.

The river cruise took roughly an hour. We stood up for the whole trip taking (far too many) photos.

There are toilet facilities on board, and don’t forget to take a jacket or jumper as it can get a bit windy.

In the evening you can rediscover this place again. Illuminated buildings acquire a different character and a certain magic that is not found during the day.

Good views from the boat. Make sure you get dropped off at the right location to boarding location of the boates. Lots of river traffic. Best views.

Just having a walk by this beautiful river is refreshing. It is a narrow river and separate the two banks of the city.

Walk along the river on both sides. Take a river cruise at night when the building and boats put on a light show.
