The guide took us around explaining the history -the inner courtyard was interesting with Spanish mosaic tiles on the wall dating back to 1606 -it is a pity that quite a lot of tiles are broken and needs to be restored. Also some of the...More

Incredible church interior. I had tour guide who spoke excellent English and we spoke Spanglish with one another. Incredibly beautiful 1500s courtyard, Spanish tiles and intricate woodwork. Went up to belltower as well. But so awkward at the end because I didn’t know she expected...More

Lovely architecture and absolutely worth the visit while in Plaza de Armas. Unlike the San Francisco, in Santo Domingo photos are allowed. Not to be missed. Truly beautiful!

I’ve been and seen many churches throughout the world. What a great story and history of this one. Wish we would’ve spent more time here.

We simply visited the inside of the basilica and found it really nice and rich in ornamentation. You have the possibility to visit the attendant convent, which we didn't do but was highly recommended to us!

Santo Domingo has lovely courtyards full of colorful Spanish tile and brightly painted arches. It was very similar to courtyards at San Francisco a few blocks away, but here we could take photos. inexpensive and nice when we were already in the area.

Our visit here was included in a 4 hour city tour of Lima. From what I recall you can visit and tour anytime during the day by yourself too. We spent a good 40 minutes here with the city tour. In the tour the bilingual guild... More
