- Jack WilmithDublin, Ireland111 contributionsSmall and pretty magicalAnd pretty amazing how well the masonry is put together that after 1300 years it still stays watertight. When we arrived there around 5pm it was nearly neglected, only 3 people around, so that was great to appreciate that place. Entrance is €4 a person, but there are toilets and a free car park for circa 40 cars right at the entrance. Note that to get to the oratory you have to walk for couple of minutes up the hill.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 April 2023
- pfefmeisterSan Francisco, California3,043 contributionsGreat StoneworkAmazing structure for being so old and still intact. Hard to believe it’s waterproof as I walked around looking for seams for the rain to get inside. It must have been fun to piece together one rock at a time. Don’t miss this unique structure.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 May 2023
- Nick M.Orlando, Florida1 contributionBeautiful and quietWe drove the Slea Head Drive and saw Gallarus Oratory completely unsure of what to expect. The man at the entrance reception was very kind and gave us great recommendations. The church was impressive and the landscape was beautiful with great views of the surrounding hills and water. Highly recommend as a stop for a few minutes if you are driving the Dingle Peninsula.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 May 2023
- rodd426Vero Beach, Florida30 contributionsVery Accommodating to Mobility Challenged PeopleAn outstanding structure. So much history to learn about. I was doubtful I could manage the walk to the site, so I asked the attendant how far it was. He offered to open the gate and allow us to drive to the location. You must be careful as people are walking along the same road/path. Only parking for maybe 2 cars. Please do not miss this bit of history just because you may think it is beyond your physical abilities as all you have to do is ask the staff. Now you may have to wait a bit if it is busy.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2023
- monica wNorwood, Australia19 contributionsAbsolutely worth seeing! This is an amazing ancient monument - incredible it has stood for so long and the skilful engineering is something to marvel at. It is similar in some respects to the beehive huts on Skellig Michael - but much more robust and rectangular in design. It is in a beautiful part of Dingle and has a spiritual feel - especially when you are inside.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 June 2023
- 123maria34Belfast, United Kingdom19 contributionsIt is rarely you can actually touch the pastStunning building - one not to miss, only one of it's kind and still standing 1300 years after being built, incredible. Video is also very interesting , great site. I am DISABLED, on crutches and the kindly gentleman in reception opened the gates to allow us to drive right up to the oratory which helped enormously. Coffee and cake were excellent too.Visited June 2023Written 6 July 2023
- Sharon GBay Village, Ohio23 contributionsGreat video summary just before entering the welcome building.Interesting to see the ancient oratory. The video just outside the entry building was a really helpful overview of the oratory and Kilmalkedar church about a mile away. I actually found Kilmalkedar church to be more inspiring and would recommend that even over the oratory. Both are significant, though, so if you have time to see them both I do recommend it.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 September 2023

I know it is very old and has a history, but it seemed a bit much to charge the entry fee for this one little building. Although we didn't take advantage of the information in the visitor center, we were lucky enough to overhear a private tour guide sharing some of the history.

If you have seen a stone bee hive you can skip this one. The only difference is it is rectangular instead of round. It's about 6 by 4 meters inside with an open doorway and window. That's it.

This ancient house of prayer has not mortar. It is the only original, intact one of its kind in Europe. Take time to admire the stone masonry from every angle.
