About
The museum is located in a flat on the second floor of an ancient building in the heart of Lucca, where Giacomo Puccini was born on December 22, 1858. In this house the composer spent the years of his childhood and first youth. The birth home was transformed into a museum in 1979 and carefully restored in 2011: today it looks like when young Giacomo lived there. The museum preserves Puccini’s Steinway & Sons piano on which he composed Turandot, autograph scores of youthful compositions, letters, photographs, precious drafts, such as the “libretti” of Tosca, La fanciulla del West and an extraordinary musical sketch of La bohème. Noteworthy the costume of Turandot worn by Maria Jeritza at the Metropolitan Opera House of New York in 1926. The birth home is a central element of Puccini Museum, the articulate museum complex that, following a journey along the footprints left by the great composer, rediscovers his personality, his passions, his genius.

The museum has some interesting information about the life of Puccini and good displays of costumes, photos, memorabilia and his Steinway piano. Additional information content is required to justify the standard adult entrance fee of €9.

Enjoyed our visit and seeing some costumes and the piano. The costume from Madame Butterfly was being restored. Entry to the museum was on one side but tickets have to be purchased first in the shop on other side. Then you have to ring a buzzer to get entry and go up a stairs to enter. Bit of a palaver to get in but we e joyed the visit

Extraordinary palaver to get into this place! Buy a ticket from a completely separate building over the piazza, come back and ring a bell, go upstairs (where?), find reception with a young girl who speaks so quietly that sign-language would be more appropriate …. . Which way? No idea!
Tired old place: dim, dusty, dreary with ghastly manikins and costumes and poor presentations. There were some lovey pieces: a watch for example. The information cards in the cases are far too small for some people to be able to read.
Needs a complete re-think to honour the maestro.

This is a great museum to visit as it showcases both Puccini’s music and his life. I particularly liked the social history aspect.
It is well curated, clean and really tells the story.

Many paintings of Puccini... letters and photographs... opera costumes... well, what should I have expected? There's nothing here that one doesn't learn online: just because I love the music, doesn't mean I''d love to read his jottings and look at snippets of his scores and his opera programmes.

The fee of 10€ is a bit on the high end, given that surely over 60% of the exibition is correspondence, that is letters written by and to Puccini. There are some interesting costumes and the actual piano Puccini used is worth seeing. Done in30 min. It is deffinitely not a must.

Beautiful costumes and a decent amount of information about Puccini. It was very interesting to learn about him and his life. But the costumes were my favorite.

I can take opera or leave it (although some of the music is well known outside the opera house), but when in Lucca, this museum is fascinating, We bought our tickets at the office & bookshop on the plaza (Piazza Cittadella; where the Puccini statue is), and the museum is well-marked on a street off of it. We walked up a long flight of stairs to the museum (there is a lift, but we read later that it has to be booked to use "at least 2 days before the visit" at the ticket office. We were welcomed by a very knowledgeable staff person who would occasionally stop in a room to tell us about something special (it wasn't crowded). We wandered around the rooms, following the map. Many items of the era and Puccini's life and creative works were displayed. Of particular pride was the Steinway piano and autographed scores and markings of modifications or interpretations. The 1926 costume of Turandot from the NY Metropolitan Opera amazing even to a opera neutral such as me. We saw the upper room (garret?) where he composed and could just see the "angel" statue over the rooftops from the Cathedrale San Michele--an inspiration. I've been to many homes of significant authors and composers, sometimes disappointed and sometimes inspired myself; this one was worth the time and entrance fee.
[The map/program says no pictures or video recording, but the staff person said it was okay.]

Once in the museum there are more than enough exhibits costumes and scores to keep the opera buff satisfied. It is getting inside that is the problem. Firstly the ticket office is across the square from the museum which is rather odd. With ticket in hand one then approaches a security door and presses a buzzer. In our case to no effect resulting in a return to the ticket office then back again with a member of staff who had a similar lack of success. He eventually had to make a phone call before we were allowed in.Note there are steep stairs to the Puccini apartment. So irritating but worth the wait

I visited the Puccini Museum - Casa Natale in August 2019. I happen to be an opera fan and so it was very interesting to visit this place. Outside there is a square with a statue of Puccini. On one side are some cafes and on the other side is a bookstore where you buy your ticket to the museum. The bookstore has opera books, discs of opera music and many other things. I paid 7 euros for my ticket. The museum is on the second floor of a house located not far from the square with the Puccini statue. Two things that stand out in my memory are Puccini's piano and the costumes from one of the first performances of Madame Butterfly. I found the Puccini Museum a very worthwhile place to visit. You can go through it in about 30-40 minutes.
