From it's source at the Columbia Icefield the Athabasca's waters eventually flow into the Great Slave Lake and eventually, via the Mackenzie River into the Arctic. At Jasper it is a very substantial river dominating many walks around the town.
Amazing sights and sounds when you stop anywhere along this river, and so many viewpoints to take it in from too. Athabasca Falls it simply mesmerising, although can get busy and the river itself from various points in Jasper is fantastic.
