We rode bikes from Banff to Lake Minnewanka. Unless you are an avid cyclist, I do NOT recommend that means of transportation to the Lake. The Lake itself is beautiful but if the bus has stopped, save it for next time!
We have visited Lake Minnewanka numerous times over the past several years. We never get tired of the breathtaking views and it has become one of our favorite spots. Always visited in the spring or fall of the year so it can be a bit...More
Another absolutely stunning lake with beautiful scenery. Huge car park areas so clearly gets very busy in summer, but with the boats packed away for winter it made parking and getting around easy.
You have to do the trek to Stewart’s Canyon to get some...More
We stopped here as part of a tour. It was just a brief stop so we didn't do any boating. It was also a very cold day so we took some pictures and enjoyed the scenery for a bit. The water is as beautiful as...More
The lake is just outside of Banff. There’s a nice scenic drive to the lake from the town. There was also a boat trip on the lake aswell, although we didn’t do that. There’s parking site near the dam. Definitely worth a visit when in...More
Great place in the fall with not too many people around and easy parking. Pleasant to walk in the area and along the dam wall. Clean restrooms right at the parking lot.
Cruises available in the summer but mid October that were taking the boats...More
Was really looking forward to visiting and taking a cruise on the lake. The weather was overcast but did clear slightly during our visit. Parking was pretty straightforward and was not to busy. We arrived early for our cruise but they kindly let us go...More
This lake has nice views without the massive crowds of the other tourist lakes. I recommend that you drive the loop past Two Jack lake. It’s very scenic without the traffic. It is also nice and close to Banff

We actually drove to Lake Minnewanka.
However, there is a easy to catch roamer bus, that travels from downtown Banff to the lake, it is a return service so you can get back just as easy and with the lake being so close, it doesn't take long at all.
You can find more details online.
Hope you have a great time!

Hi! We're just travellers who've done the cruise a couple of times over the years. It's pricey but worth doing for sure. We found a "book now" link from the "Banff Jasper Collection" "Minnewanka" website, which we think is Brewster, which owns most of this type of attraction in the region. Whether to book in advance or just show up is a question. They have a few boats, all with indoor seating, so we can't imagine that they would be sold out on any particular day unless the Shriners are in. If the weather is horrible, it wouldn't be a bad rainy day option anyway... Depending on how you're getting around, if you're driving yourself, the loop via Johnson Lake and Two Jack Lake, and the Upper Bank former mine site is a highly scenic route in and of itself, with half a dozen worthwhile sights. With a boat ride, you could spend a complete day just in that area. Johnson Lake is a stunning short hike, a total wow if you have the time... You'll love this area!
