The Samaritans are both Palestinians and Israelis, an ancient people that transcend the categories of the conflict. They were once one of the most populous nations in the region, now there less than a thousand people.

Anyone interested in the history of Judaism, Christianity, Palestine or ethno-religious groups or ancient languages has to come to Mt. Gerizim.

There is a small town on top of the mountain which represents half the Samaritans in the world (the other half lives near Tel Aviv), a museum with priceless artifacts, and an archeological site on the top of the mountain with the ruins of the Samaritan Temples and the Byzantine Church that was built on top of it after the Samaritan Revolts.

Abood Cohen is young Samaritan tour guide who knows everything about the museum and Samaritan culture and he will show you everything. He's the friendliest guy and very generous with his time. Many Samaritans are trilingual: Arabic, Hebrew, English and you can talk to Abood and one of the Samaritan priests in those languages.

I can't recommend this place enough. Just when you think you understand the complexities of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, the Samaritan story exposes even deeper expressions of humanity, solidarity, and the possibilities for reconciliation.

I had a great day with Abood, I was promptly picked up at my accommodation in Tel Aviv and drove off to the Samaritan village at Qiryat Luza. Our first stop was the community museum where he explained about the culture and history of his people, the main differences between Jews and Samaritans. He tells it all with passion. Our next stop was the archaeological site up Mt. Gerizim the holiest site for the Samaritans (their equivalent to the Temple Mount) where you can find Isaac's altar, and remains of some Byzantine era buildings, we then went down to the old quarter of Nablus (Shechem) to visit a soap factory, the market, a mosque and a spice shop, we also did a quick stop at Jacob's well one of the holiest sites in Christianity. Highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning more about a little known community and also of Nablus.

We had a great day with Abdullah. He showed us the mount of blessing, gave us lots of information about the Samaritan community and we had interesting discussions about the live within community, social life etc...

We also had the luck to meet the High Priest and enjoy great homemade tahini😊

A must do if you’re in Nablus area.

The day in Samaria (Mt. Gerizim and Nablus (West Bank) was the high point of our Israeli trip. We were able to encounter OT Biblical times through the ongoing traditions practiced even today by the Samaritan community. We saw a very nice museum and worship center on top of Mt. Gerizim, and an excellent historical multimedia presentation produced by the government on Samaritan history (these often are dry and sub-par, but please trust me, this was very well done!). All this was followed by a visit to Jacob’s Well in Nablus, which was where Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well. (John 4). What I like best about the Samaritan Experience was the personal interaction with the guide, Abood Cohen. He is developing his tour business and a passion for customer service. While some of these big bus tours treat you like a herd of cattle (you know, following a raised umbrella), Abood has a mission... to give the history of his Samaritan people. That is what makes the Samaritan Experience a “must do” when traveling to Israel.

It was very inspiring to meet Abud Cohen who shared about the rich Samaritan History & Traditions showing us around in the little museum. Later he accompanied us to Mount Gerizim the holy site for the Samaritan Community & sharedwit us May more stories & his personal perspectives on the unique lifestyle of that ancient community. He s an interesting guide to the Samaritan Conext with the talent to draw lines tracing back into ancient history connecting it to the here & now. If you are near Nablus try to meet Abud & spend some time! A truely unique Samaritan Experience!

I have brought many guests to visit with the Samaritans on Mount Gerizim. Their story, history and culture is fascinating. Abood Cohen is a great host. He is very knowledgeable and has an excellent command of the English language. The special standing of the Samaritan people in the complex political reality here allows this company to provide a unique service and programs on in Israeli and Palestinian surroundings.

I highly recommend these tours.

I’ve been to Israel on six different occasions, and didn’t realize until this last visit, that there’s one area that I totally missed out on by not visiting. On my recent visit, I went on the “Samarian Experience”, and was totally amazed by what I learned and felt. Like most people I’ve heard the name Samaritan, but my knowledge was very superficial and in many ways incorrect. Being there on Mount Gerizim was one of the highlights of my trip. They have a small museum, but more interesting was when the brother of the High Priest spoke with us and shared some valuable information and highlights regarding their culture, traditions and history. Abood and his friend, were also amazing. They went out of their way to share their history, culture, and visit archeological sites. What I learned was transforming in helping me to have a better understanding and appreciation for the Samaritans. Let me summarize my experience this way, although I will forget many things from my visit, but my experience in Samaria will be something that I’ll always remember. This last trip I spent a month traveling and visiting site all over Israel, this was tops!

I had a great time with Abood and his friend Breeto who took us to Jacob's well, the Holy Mount Gerizim and met with his grandpa who is the High priest and enjoyed delicious Samaritan snack prepared by grandma. They made us feel at home. The view from the top of Mount Gerizim looking down to the Palestinian settlement villages and also the biblical site such as Issac's altar is amazing. The Samaritan museum is very educational too. This is a very unique experience to visit this long forgotten community of people with long history who is fighting for survival in modern days as they have less than 1000 people in this generation. Abood is a very friendly and knowledgeable guide on his own land and people and I definitely would go back there again with my family to see how their community will grow in the future years. My best wishes for them for prosperity and safety in their native land.

Breeto and Abood are really nice people who doing a great thing for the future and the presence to show a other side of Israel. They showing us around at Mount Gerizim and helped us to understand the Samaritans. They both can tell you everything about the Samaritan Culture. This is a really special Culture, lovely people and interesting culture. It’s total save to visit it, also with kids you can feel free there and enjoy the whole village the view and the friendly open minded people. I recommend everybody to go there feel and see that different and special place in contrast to Israel and Palestine. Thank you so much for everything you did for us. I wish you all the best for your dreams and hope you will get it.
