It was a good hike. We signed up with Johnny and our guide didn't indicate that he wasn't Johnny which was weird. We actually found out a few days later when we did another hike with actual Johnny. Unlike other people who had bad experiences with outheir substitute guide, we had a great time, saw some cool stuff and the guide was great at involving our 2 year old. Also the website says tickets for 2+ but apparently you don't actually have to pay for a little kid so that would have been cool to know

We went on a night hike with Johnny last night and the hike was amazing. Johnny was a great guide and I would recommend him to anybody. He is very knowledgeable of the area as well as the animals int he area. He has a great personality and made everybody in our party feel comfortable and included in the hike. The fact it was just us in the group was very nice as well. He went out of his way to show us the animals that we hoped to see, even though we understand seeing all the animals is not possible. I would definitely book another tour with Johnny on any future trips to Monteverde.

We had an amazing experience with Johnny. He's a cheery, funny, and knowledgeable expert who made us feel welcome and safe. He has an incredible eye for all kinds of creatures, and he made it easy for us to see them through his scope. He even started off the session showing us how to use our phones to take photos through his scope! I couldn't recommend Johnny highly enough.

We had a disappointing experience with Johnny. Unfortunately he’d had a very bad day and when we arrived he was visibly stressed and quite unprofessional.
He began the tour by telling us how hard his day had been, all the challenges he’d had and excusing himself to check in on his children (multiple times).
I admire him for juggling everything but sadly this did start the tour off on a very awkward note.
Luckily we did get to see a bit of wildlife but the lack of professionalism left us, and I am sure the other 2 guests with a bit of a sour taste.
With transport, entrance fee and the tour it cost over £100 which I would say was not good value for money compared to many other things we did in Costa Rica for the same price.

We booked Johnny after reading good reviews. When we arrived it was very crowded, the group was too big and another guide named Olger was assigned to our Family. Although he was very nice and kind he did not spot much but we walked to other guides to see what they spotted. It was kind of disappointing and the info we heard from other guides was by far more in details and professional . The tour started at 8.15 and we were back in our car at 9.45. The tour was 28 per person and when we arrived we needed to pay an additional 5 dollar per person extra for the entrance

Hello thank you for your coment, We try to have small gruops of 6 people maximon so we use other tour guides to share and provide better service.
With our rate entrece fee is not included, is normal to pay entrance fee in the preserve.
Olger is a great tour guide and he is really professional person and a great human. We provide you a private tour to you and your family to have the chance to give you a great tour and a better experince. we fish a bit early because your kids where sleepy and ready to go home you ask if it was posible to fish early..

Johnny is very friendly and clever guide. He is always trying to do his job for 110% and with little jokes make every minute of tour very relaxed. He has a very large knowledge of wildlife and nature and he will answer every possible question. Definitely recomended!

We arrived early for the night walk but we were one of the last groups to get started on the walk. We were also one of the first groups to finish the walk. Our time on the walk was too short. In addition, there were too many other people on the walk and groups were often stumbling around each other trying to look at the same thing. We did see some cool things, but in order to see a single frog our guide took our camera to the frog, took a picture of the frog and the came back with our camera. We never got to SEE the frog. Average tour, at best. We have been on several night walks that were better.

Johnny was an incredible guide! Superb knowledge of the various species that roam around at night. Not to mention pleasant attitude and the eyes of a hawk! I saw a spider I never thought I would see in real life, much less in the wild thanks to him!
Tour is just the right length and group size is ideal for questions and efficiency. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to see the cloud forest come alive at night!

Johnny had an excellent eye and found many things we would have never seen. He could spot a 2 cm frog from 20 feet away and knew all the best places to look. He was jolly and full of jokes. He had a very good relationship with other guides as they shared with each other when something cool was found. Johnny is a local to the area and appears to be very well-read on ecology, and clearly cares about the forest and its preservation.

Johnny was very well versed in English and Spanish and he was extraordinarily exclusive of all members of the tour. He also had a great eye and found all sorts of wildlife for us to view, and was quick with the scope when necessary. He always allowed somebody to video through the scope so videos could be shared amongst the group. Highly recommend Johnny!
