Something attractions book faster than others if you can't call until you get there then do it ASAP when you get there. This is their slower time of year so you should be okay. I didn't book the luau until a week before and we still had a couple options. If you go to the website for the particular activities you would like to do many of them also have a direct dial number and not just the toll free number. Hope this info helps.

Although renting a car is not totally necessary I would highly recommend doing so for a least a few days of your trip. I didn't find Hawaii worth the trip until I got out of the city. I was terrified of driving but Google maps was a stress free navigator. We used the Alamo right in Waikiki and was pleased with the price and service. Tour shuttles and city buses do greatly increase your travel time. You can check it our easily using the bus option on google maps. There travel times are very accurate. Also bus passes are $5.50 per person so if you have a few adults it adds up per day. Youth prices require picture id.
