Manta Ray Night Snorkel from Kona

    What to Expect
Meet your guide at Kaleiopapa Street in Kailua Kona 30 minutes before your departure time. There are four times to choose for this tour, including 5:45 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 6:45 p.m.

Once you get checked in and set up, hop aboard your vessel with your guide and journey out onto the water under the moonlight. Your guide stops your boat near an area known to be a manta ray natural habitat. Rays are most active at night, so your chances of catching sight of them during this tour are higher than a daytime tour.

Snap on the last of your snorkel gear and jump into the ocean. The diving lights on your vessel are safe for the manta rays (and you), and allow better visibility for your evening dip. As you hang out by the manta ray natural habitat, keep an eye out for rays. The rays are quite big and feature wingspans up to 15-feet (4.5-meters) wide.

After your night snorkeling, dry off, and enjoy warm soup and a hot drink onboard. Your boat returns to your original departure point when the tour concludes.

We experienced both the Manta Ray cruise and the Hula Kai snorkeling trip. The crews of both took their time to explain the environment we were entering, and to position us for the best viewing experience possible. The food provided definitely hit the spot! Would...More

I didn't really have high expectations for the night Manta Ray snorkel trip because of the restrictions placed on everyone and because I have done a lot of snorkeling/diving. However, with that many people, many of them inexperienced, the crew of the Hula Kai made...More

My adult son and I enjoyed this snorkel immensely. The crew bent over backwards to be sure everything was perfect, including moving to another spot after the mantas did not initially appear, after which we were treated to a wonderful swim with several mantas!

There’s no need for snuba because you keep your body & legs as near the surface as possible so the mantas aren’t scared.
