Depending on transport option selected, meet at the launch location or get picked up at a central New Orleans meeting point for the 45-minute drive outside the city. After a safety briefing and basic paddling instructions, climb aboard a tandem kayak and launch into the swamp with a guide and small group of no more than eight (single kayaks are available for odd-number groups).

Feel a world away from Bourbon Street as you paddle on the calm waters that wind through the moss-draped cypress forests of the Maurepas and Manchac swamps. During your approximately 2 hours on the water, learn about the wetland ecosystem and keep an eye out for native Louisiana wildlife including the famous American alligator.

Lovely way to explore the swamps

I like to do some exploring outside the urban areas whenever I visit a new city. When visiting a city surrounded by wetlands, exploring them by kayak sounded like a good plan. It was!

Swamps are highly underrated

Must do; must return. My partner and I booked a same day reservation for a 4:30pm at Manchac, and were not disappointed. Ray picked us up from the French Quarter and by fortune's great luck, it was just us two on the trip! Drove over...More

Great experience even for beginners!

My mom was nervous about kayaking because she had never kayaked before. She also can't swim. However, her fears were set aside once she discovered how easy it was. If you go slow and steady (and you can set your own pace) it's nearly impossible...More

Must do!! We had the best time. Van pulls up to launch and there is our first alligator. We all tried to be cool, but hearts were pounding a bit. I have done the airboat alligator trips in the everglades of Florida, but kayaking thru...More

1) We were on the water about 1.5 hours. 2) We booked directly from the website 3) Wr had several have a rental car and meet us. The guide gives directions to you when you book, but they are also listed on the website.

Not at all. I was worried about this myself but when we were there it felt very safe and the alligators are not aggressive at all. Most of them are also not very big and like to avoid human traffic. Gators are hunted over... More
