Great tour for the Architecturally-inclined!
Oct 2021
We booked the 10am French Quarter Architecture Walking Tour, and it was fantastic! Our guide, Guy, was very knowledgeable (having lived in the Quarter for sometime himself) and came armed with numerous historical photos to support his tour commentary, tracing the history of architectural evolution in the Quarter from the oldest buildings to modern-era buildings masquerading as older buildings and everything between.
This is definitely a tour ABOUT architecture and its specific history in the Quarter. We were the only 2 on the tour which in my mind, was perfection. But I suspect the tour isn't for everyone, since it isn't going to be geared as much towards storytelling (though specific people from New Orleans' history are integral to the architectural development history, so they do come up.)
I would add a caveat to "wear comfortable walking shoes" -- be sure those shoes are also comfortable standing-still shoes. Bring a hat if sunny, and water is always a good idea -- first weekend in October for our tour, and it was still mid-80's and swampy/sticky humid; my t-shirt was soaked through by noon!
We (me+brother-in-law) thoroughly enjoyed learning from Guy and covering some ground in the Quarter, seeing all the many distinctions of styles and types of buildings.

So glad to hear that you enjoyed your French Quarter Tour with Guy! We like to keep our tours on the small side and it looks like you got lucky with a private tour! :) Our tours take place at the crossroads of architecture and history. The built landscape is telling so much - the climate, materials available, cultures of the people involved, and the time period that the building was designed. If we are doing our jobs right, we are creating a curiosity to learn more about how buildings tell the story of a place, any place. Thank you for taking a moment to write this incredible review about your experience. We appreciate you adding your recommendations about the weather. It does seem like summer is sticking around a little later this year. And your advice to wear comfy shoes is also spot on. We don't walk very far on our tours but we are on our feet for two hours.

Enjoyable tour full of useful information.
Karen was very engaging as we went over architecture and history of the French Quarter as we walked around. She also helpfully offered practical advice (about hustlers, etc… so useful!) and recommendations on many things, since she is a native with lots of local experience.

Wonderful Tour

An amazing tour of the quarter touching on the history, culture, and people of the city over its 300+ years. I can't recommend this tour (and the other ones by this company) enough. A must do when visiting NO.

Thanks for taking both the French Quarter and Garden District tours with New Orleans Architecture Tours. After taking both tours, you should now have a pretty good view on the three different eras of architecture in New Orleans, from our earliest French beginnings to the Spanish period to the American era. Looks like we have to add more tours so you'll have something new to learn the next time you visit! Thank you for leaving this review of your experience. I am so glad that you enjoyed your tours with us.

Fabulous cultural tour told thru the buildings !
Jul 2021
Guy is a long time resident, retired clergy and a very warm and engaging person. He knows and loves New Orleans French Quarter architecture and went out of his way to show and tell us the stories and people behind the buildings. He was also knowledgeable on why the buildings were built as they were because of the diverse cultures, climate and the many fires that raged thru the Quarter in the early days. Fabulous cultural/ architectural tour!

Thank you for taking the French Quarter tour with Guy! He is an excellent tour guide and we are so excited to have him with us. Our tours are about what makes New Orleans different and how you can see these things through learning about the buildings. Our history is right there in front of us in every building you see. I appreciate you leaving this incredible review and hope you'll join us again.

Historical storytelling at its best!
Fantastic tour! This is not your typical, silly New Orleans tour. This is deep, fascinating historical storytelling. I feel like I have a much better appreciation and understanding of New Orleans and the French Quarter. The material might not keep young children entertained, but curious adults will eat this stuff up.

Bring lots of sunscreen and water. Some of the most interesting buildings don't have much shade.

Thank you for choosing New Orleans Architecture Tours for your French Quarter Experience! We are so pleased that you enjoyed it and learned a lot. We aim to provide tours that mix lots of information with light stories to keep it fun. Thanks for adding this wonderful review. Your pictures are really fantastic. I'm glad to see that Madame John's Legacy is getting some much needed care. These old buildings are so hard to keep up with, especially in this climate. We also appreciate you adding the tips at the end. Everyone should definitely have water and sunscreen for any tour in New Orleans in the summer time!
