We took this tour with Harris in late February 2022 and it was a highlight of our trip. We are a family of 5, with 3 kids ranging from elementary school age to late teens, and Harris made the tour incredibly interesting for everyone (adults included). His depth of knowledge was impressive, and it was evident that he knows NOLA history and was enthusiastic sharing it. We really enjoyed learning about not only the history of the immediate Garden District, but the city as a whole, why certain neighborhoods developed, and the interesting architecture of the houses. Although not planned, one of the more fascinating aspects of our particular tour was when the owner of one of the houses came out to leave and provided personalized history of their property (that didn't quite meld with Harris' version , but we are pretty sure they were trying to sanitize their version). Regardless, that added a lot of local flavor as the owner said their house had been in their family since the 1850s! If you're looking for a great way to spend a couple of hours and gain a better appreciation for the city and its people, I'd strongly recommend this tour.

We were so fortunate to have Harris as our guide this past week. We gathered at the entrance to the cemetery ( He started right on time) We got fascinating details about traditional NOLA burials (as we waited for some late comers, no worries). He more than made up the time at the end.
Harris is hugely present. He has "in the moment"energy. He is very fun as well as extremely knowledgable oral historian. In addition he can project his voice in seemingly any noisy situation (some were very challenging). Personable just doesn't describe this Bright Light of a man. We learned so much and enjoyed every second of it. This tour was the highlight of a very wonderful first visit to NOLA. He followed up the tour later that afternoon with a text of suggested places to check out. Sadly we just weren't in town long enough. Next time...

Harris is the best tour guide we’ve had in New Orleans, bar none. He has a deep knowledge in the history of, not only the Garden District, but New Orleans as a whole. Every story he told of the past was informative, yet lively and animated. Not only is this a history lesson, as Harris also points out and explains all of the different architectural styles of the homes in the Garden District. Overall, would recommend this tour to anyone curious about the history and culture of New Orleans. 10/10.

Our guide Harris did a wonderful job explaining the history and architecture of the Garden District, including the burial customs at the Lafayette Cemetary. He welcomed everyone on the tour from all over the world (U.K., Canda, Australia, USA) and called us "family" as he led us around the neighborhood. Harris has a great sense of humour and a lot of knowledge about early history in New Orleans. He gave us many things to think about - and opened our eyes to some of the history that we may not have been taught in school. A real treasure - well worth the investment of time and money! Highly recommend this tour as part of your New Orleans experience.

Our guide, Angie, was absolutely awesome!! The 2 hour trip began and ended at the main gate to Lafayette Cemetery, strolling through beautiful streets in the Garden District. She was extremely knowledgeable, bubbly, and could easily be heard despite occasional traffic noise. We learned all kinds of cool things about the architecture, various flowering plants, famous current and former owners…and her information about the cemetery, its history, and the internment/funeral process was extremely interesting. The 2 hour walk was not fast paced, and I doubt it was more than a mile and a half or so in total, and there were many opportunities to sit for a few minutes at several stops along the route, so not very strenuous in the heat. Highly recommend this tour and tour guide!! A+++ Well worth the money!

Harris is super personable and encourages questions along the tour. He would follow the questions to a fuller story and ending. After giving the regular description he riffs on the questions providing what feels like a personalized New Orleans experience!

Bring water, and even better a belt or sash to carry it in so you don’t have to hold it the whole time.

My husband and I so enjoyed the Garden District Walking tour with Harris. Even though we had prepared for our trip by reading about New Orleans, he brought it alive with his tales of not only the Garden District, but the whole area. He loves New Orleans and it shows. After the tour, he walked us 2 blocks to the streetcar stop on St Charles Street so we could take it to the WW2 museum. Above and beyond and very kind! My husband and I are in our 70's and we managed the 2 hours of standing and walking easily. If you have mobility problems, the walking tour may not be for you as there is really no place to sit down during the tour as this is in a residential neighborhood.

Angie was a great tour guide. It was very hot last Saturday (94-95 degrees) but Angie did her best to keep us in the shade. The walk/tour was fairly easy but beware of broken sidewalks if you have mobility issues. She is very animated in her presentation which makes it fun to listen to and gives interesting facts and history about the homes and the area in general. I learned a lot and thought it was a great way to spend a couple of hours if you want to get out of the Quarter and love older homes!

Angie was phenomenal! I never would have thought I would get chills from a walking tour (in 90 degree heat) but Angie did it! Her knowledge of the topics made the tour educational but her passion provided the entertainment. She was funny, approachable and just an all around great human. Highly recommend this tour and if you’re lucky enough to get Angie, you’re in for a treat!!
