- Small group size ensures tailored, personal experience
What to expect
Meet your guide in the Flatiron district in the morning, and head to Eataly, an Italian food market. There, enjoy a coffee at Caffe Lavazza and a warm slice of breakfast focaccia.
Stroll over to Eisenberg’s, a sandwich joint loved by locals and celebrities. Pause for photos of the iconic triangular Flatiron Building directly across the street as you listen to the guide’s stories about its architecture. Your small group size encourages questions and conversation.
Follow the guide down to Beecher’s, a hard-to-spot gem near Union Square. As you indulge in one of its famous grilled cheeses, watch the cheese being made in the on-site factory.
Absorb the revolutionary history of Union Square, courtesy of your guide. On arrival at Breads Bakery, hidden away from the bustle of Union Square, enjoy a fresh pastry with the group. The tour ends here, steps from the park and shopping on Fifth Avenue.

We took this tour on a chilly but sunny day. Justin, our tour guide, was excellent. He gave us lots of history of the area in a very interesting way, not dry facts but great details. He also was wonderful about giving us updates of what was coming next, how long we would be outside, restrooms, etc. The stops are delicious. Beginning in Eataly he explained each section as well as the architecture. It really helped make a rather overwhelming place make sense. We were given some sweet focaccia to try which we never had before. It was so good we returned later to pick up some for a snack for later in the evening. Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop provided a delicious Reuben. Normally I don’t eat these as I don’t like sauerkraut and dressing but I tried it because they don’t overwhelm the sandwich with it and I enjoyed it. The next food stop was a grilled cheese at Beecher’s. I think I could eat that every day, especially with some hot soup Justin said they sell too. The cheese just drips out it is so gooey! The tour ends at Breads Bakery with Rugelach which was also perfection. At each stop Justin also got us water. He was always making sure we had what we needed. I highly recommend this tour. It is a lovely area to tour, you get some great history and you will definitely end up full on some of the best food NY has to offer.

We did a virtual tour for our company holiday party and it was fantastic. Justin is an excellent guide, informative and entertaining! What an education about our office neighborhood that we miss while on COVID lockdown. So great to dive deep into the history and architecture. I would love to do this again in real life when we can and I highly recommend the virtual tour while we can't do it live!

I did the virtual tour of the flat iron, and then immediately booked the greenwich village virtual tour for the next week! These are a great way to learn during quarantine, and see where you're going to visit when the stay at home order lifts. I signed my parents up as well, so they can feel more informed when they visit me.
Justin is an awesome guide, he seems to know everything about New York, but also makes it really fun and inclusive!

Several of us took Justin's virtual Flatiron District Tour in July 2020. It was FANTASTIC. The tour was very organized, engaging, and interesting. Justin showed interesting images, maps, and photos. He seamlessly transitioned between the different items. Justin was a very engaging, interesting, knowledgeable tour guide. I highly recommend this tour.

The history was interesting and the food was fantastic! Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The buildings are ornate, unique and it felt a little like going to the Met. The bagels from Zucker's...wow! That pastrami was delish! My only suggestion would be more food stops...NYC just has so much to try. I'd pay more for that. Still a wonderful experience. Thanks again!

You could walk this route on your own, but you'd miss 99% of what makes the Flatiron district so interesting. Our guide - Justin Van Voorhis - is a font of information that he presents in an entertaining way. His knowledge spans architecture, food and history. Excellent guide, excellent tour.

Justin was terrific. He was quite knowledgeable about the history and architecture of the Flat Iron area. The food was great and very filling. The small size (6 people) made everything easy. Even the weather was great.

Truly enjoyed this tour with Justin. It was just the right amount of walking and eating. Justin was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about the neighborhood, especially the old buildings and architecture. I would highly recommend this experience if you have an interest in this part of NYC.

Hi, we went on a a Friday so that we would be there for the Union Square Market which is only on certain days of the week. We booked online and chose the date that worked best for us. I am sure whatever shows on their website is available to book.

How much walking is involved? Distance in miles please
Bill D
2 contributions
The Flatiron tour is about 2.0 miles of walking in total. Roary the tourguide mentioned this and my iPhone app confirmed that it is two miles even. It is also a flat, low-pace walk with no hurrying involved and mostly no stairs. Near the end of the tour (at the cheese factory) there are additional things to see one flight up or one flight down, but it is optional. At the Chelsea Market, where the tour also stops, there is an elevator.
