Right from the start we knew that we were going to have a fantasy time when we met our tour guide Anja, she was friendly, witty and very knowledgeable and she knew exactly how to get a bunch of strangers to feel comfortable with each other and with her. The tour was amazing and well worth the cost. The Sonoma Valley is beautiful, the vineyards that we visited were interesting and informative with a good selection of wines to sample. Lunch in the Sonoma Plaza was delicious, we ate in The Girl and the Fig and I can highly recommend the Charcuterie Board. After the last visit to a vineyard we had a short time in Sausalito for a walk and an ice cream. We met some grey people, tasted some lovely wines and learned a lot of things about wine and the area. Thank you Anja.

Our guide was Anthony, and he did a terrific job from start to finish. We had some rain to navigate through in the morning, but Anthony proved to be an excellent driver.

Anthony had excellent personal anecdotes to share, and it really added to the day's experiences.

We had been to Homewood a number of years ago (great experience) and they continue to make great wines at a very reasonable price. Peter Cellars makes excellent wines, and we enjoyed our time with Peter himself. It's my understanding that the scheduled visit to Mayo Cellars wasn't possible due to staffing issue there, which is a shame, because the visit to Seamus Wines was a complete waste of time - the wines were so bad that no one at our table finished the samples we were given. I can only suggest that Edge of the World Tours look for another alternative until Mayo Cellars opens once again.

Overall, a great day. I salute our guide - Anthony - and highly recommend Edge of the World Tours as a vendor to use when you visit wine country.

There can be no higher praise for a once-in-a-lifetime experience than for Anthony and the team at Edge of the World Tours. I would give this six stars if I could! Right from the time we booked, it was clear this was going to be first class all the way, and it did not disappoint. The personal messages from Geoffrey before we even set foot in San Francisco made us feel welcome and we couldn’t wait to go on our tour.

The minibus arrived on time, was new, clean and very comfortable. There were another five guests on the trip and our host for the day, Anthony, soon had us laughing and chatting easily like old friends before we’d even left the city. Anthony is certainly one of a kind, and also kind is the operative word. He is knowledgable, affable, irreverent and highly attentive all at the same time, which is quite a feat to pull off.

He actually provided a tour within a tour and took us to some amazing places in an around the city and bay that we would never normally see, before we even headed to the wineries. Speaking of which, all of the three we visited were of an incredibly high standard and had both excellent wines and superb hosts. I won’t list them here since they likely vary from trip to trip but you will not be disappointed.

Book a trip with Edge of the World Tours for a trip to the wineries. I can’t compare them with other companies of which I have no experience, but I don’t believe it’s necessary as I can’t see how anyone could better what Anthony and the team delivered on the day. It was amazing from start to finish and I wish I could do it all again tomorrow.

Our wine tour was just OK. The driver Anthony was very interesting and entertainment which really helped with the trip. The first winery was good as the wine server was knowledgeable and also entertaining. Nice pours of 5 wines but the wine was only alright. I usually buy at least a cases each winery but ended up only buying one bottle of their dessert wine. The second winery was Peter Cellars. Served only 4 wines but very small pours. Could hardly get 3 sips. Definitely no second tastes. Wasn’t thrilled with any of the wines they had to offer. Then we had lunch in Sonoma then on to our 3rd winery Seamus in Sonoma. They don’t grow their own grapes and only have a wine maker and the worse wine I have had in years. Thankful there were on 3 pours but they did offer seconds. Very few takers. The lady who narrated the tour was interesting which was a plus. This winery caters to large groups and we were considered a medium size group being of 12 people.

Hi Jodie, I’m very sorry you felt our tour was disappointing. We work very hard to ensure that every single customer enjoys the day, so when we fail we take it to heart. Our winery partners generally do a very nice job but the quality of the wine they pour is, of course, subjective. I’m very sorry that most of the wine did not appeal to you. Thank you for taking the time offer your feedback. Marc

Easily our favourite activity that we did throughout our complete holiday. Don’t believe the official literature that states that the tour starts at 9am. We were picked up from our hotel at 8:20am by our guide for the day – Putney’s best-ever export Anthony – and the tour starts as soon as he’s got someone in the minibus to talk to. Thanks to not being able to find the last group it took us until a little after nine to leave the city but by then those of us lucky enough to be first on the bus had been shown more of San Francisco than we could ever have wanted. Anthony was brilliant, from the first “Mrs Doubtfire’s House” moment right up to the time he drove us off the “edge of the world” at the junction of California and Jones on the way back.

Our group was just ten strong, which meant that we were able to chat and get to know each other at our own pace. Anthony kept the humour going all day, bringing people out of their shells without making them feel uncomfortable. We visited three wineries, all excellent and all very keen to offer their products for sample and sale. Lunch was taken in the beautiful town of Sonoma with various recommendations from our driver which some took and others ignored.

This was a trip that I will gladly do again – “revisit” if you will – next time I’m in the city.

Was solo travelling and normally not a fan of organise tours but unable to drive and wanting to see wine country booked with EoWT. Bit more pricey than some others but glad I did. Good size group, nice vineyards esp the one with the ‘senior fella’ born in Plymouth, good views of the bay & GG bridge Fellow Brit Anthony was a great tour guide a mix of Harvey Kietel, Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart was entertaining without being over bearing - witty, gave good facts and tit bits. Certainly Made sure we got back on time

Following a prompt pickup from outside our Hotel in San Francisco, we were greeted by the very personable Anthony who was our guide for the day. Taking us a scenic route out of the city, we were treated to some very informative information, often combined with some very amusing personal experience stories which made the journey to the Sonoma Valley pass in no time. We also stopped at a beautiful spot under the GG bridge for photos which was a very welcome addition.

We visited three Vineyards, Homewood, Peter Cellars and Mayo Family.

The three Vineyards are considered boutique based on cases produced offered completely different experiences, which we found kept things fresh through the day.

It is clear Anthony's working relationship/friendship with all three means they are all very accommodating and willing to go beyond what would normally be expected in a Wine tasting session. Although the Wineyards are there to sell Wine, there was no forceful selling and the laid back attitude in all three meant we bough more bottles than we probably would have otherwise.

The whole days was very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable, I have no hesitation recommending Edge of the World to anyone visiting San Francisco and will book with them agai when we return to the Bay area for another trip to Wine Country.

Cheers Anthony, James & Laura.

Since we were staying in the suburbs outside of San Fran, we were provided with a pick up location by Edge of World which, worked out perfectly.
My husband and I had an exceptional experience with our group and Anthony, our guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about The Bay Area, Sonoma County and not to mention, an absolute delight. You can hear the passion in his voice. He chose 3 boutique wineries with unique nuances. The third however, was less than exciting.
We chose to eat in Sonoma at a wonderful Portuguese Tapas restaurant. Food was delicious and quick service. If you don’t feel like looking up options prior to arrival, Anthony can provide great recommendations.
To round off the tour, Anthony provided us with alternative options to return to our destination (e.g Be dropped off at Fisherman’s Wharf or return to our pick up spot.)
We would highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for a more intimate experience with smaller, family owned wineries and smaller groups.
Thank you again Edge of World and Anthony! We hope to return again soon!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of taking the Great Wine Tour from Edge of the World Tours. Marc, our tour guide (also an owner of the company) picked us up right at the cruise dock and, along with 4 other guests, took us on a marvelous tour of Sonoma Valley. He was both informative and entertaining, telling us about the history of the area as well as the history of wine making in the region.
Our first stop was right over the Golden Gate Bridge for pictures, then on to our first of 3 winery stops (with a stop in Sonoma for lunch on our own).
The wineries were all small and family owned. Don’t expect large factory or big names, but these experiences are very informative. The second stop was an owner/winemaker who obviously was proud of his product and rightfully so. No hard sell (being on a cruise ship we were limited to how much we could buy anyway), and he even allowed me a taste of his prize 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve.
The last winery was extremely fun. The tasting “guide” was well informed and fun.
On our return to San Francisco we stopped in Sausalito and we’re given the opportunity to return to town on our own via ferry ( we declined and he brought us back to the ship.
If you have a day in SF and want an experience in Sonoma Wine Country, you couldn’t do better than this tour.

Short version: lovely experience, fun lunch stop, small intimate wineries with generous sized tastings. Totally recommend if that's the vibe you're going for!

We were accompanied by Anthony, our guide, a lovely Brit with fun uncle energy. The drive out to Sonoma (over GG bridge and through Sausalito) was incredibly scenic. The wineries had a very small feel to them since they are boutique and we did not linger at any singular place for too long. We ate at La Casa for lunch and it was pretty damn good.

I totally second the reviews that mentioned Anthony as their favorite part. He is so amiable and funny. You know he has done these tours a million times, so it makes it even more special that he seemingly approaches each one with renewed energy and excitement. He took special care to learn our names, where we were from, and was overall a knowledgeable guide of the city, wines, and anything else you were bold enough to ask him. If given the chance, I would totally book another tour with this company just to hang out with Anthony again!
