What to expect
  • With this admission ticket to the San Francisco Zoo, the way you spend your time is up to you. The zoo is open daily, so you’ll have plenty of time to explore the grounds at your own pace. There are more than 20 exhibits at the zoo with more than 1,000 animals to see, so you’ve got your work cut out for you. Start by stopping by the Koala Crossing Exhibit where five furry friends hang out, and point them out while they sit up high in the eucalyptus trees they like to eat off of. Check out the meerkats and prairie dogs, and learn how two animals from two different continents can have so much in common. Don’t miss out on seeing Bear Country or Eagle Island, and the Insect Zoo is also a good place to visit if you’re into creepy-crawly creatures. If you need some time away from all the animals, you can walk the gardens, hit the playground, or even hop on a train (own expense). Whatever you spend your time doing, you’ll walk away knowing much more about animals than you did before.

We loved the zoo and were fortunate to be at the giraffe paddock at feeding time. What fun!! They are such beautiful and graceful creatures. Because we were at the zoo in January, the bears were in hibernation, so we didn't see them, but there were so many other animals to see it wasn't a big deal. The lemurs were great fun, the gorillas were mesmerizing, the big cats so regal and impressive, and on and on. The rain forest exhibit was great... loved trying to find some of the animals as they blended so well with their environments. A great place to visit!

Grew up going to this zoo and it broke my heart the way they let it go. Lots of empty habitats and overgrown grass. Definitely not worth the price of admission. The zoo is in desperate need of TLC. The highlight was the awesome park and not the few animals that were there.

I always enjoy visiting this park to see the animals and the continuing restoration and development. As a local I visit at least twice a year. Despite enjoying it, some exhibits were closed due to the pandemic and continuing construction. I'm excited to see the progress as animal exhibits continue to be enhanced so they have more room. It's great to see the educational focus of this zoo as well which is ever so important. I hope in the near future more programs can be developed to reach out to the public.

This zoo is so run down. There are always multiple areas of the zoo that are closed or exhibits are empty. Extortionate ticket and parking fees for a dilapidated zoo. Additional fees for the carousel and train. The grounds are poorly maintained and the exit signage is very unclear. The playground is one of the best in the city though.

Went to the zoo January 1st 2022 the price to get In was overpriced in my personal opinion. A lot of the animal exhibits were empty. There were no grizzly bear, black bear, sea lion, gorillas, and many more. If I had the option of going to the San Francisco zoo and Oakland zoo I would chose Oakland any day. The parking lot was blocked off because it was “full” but when we walked in, there were lots of open parking spaces we had to walk almost a mile to get into the zoo after parking on a side street.

This visit was disappointing due to the large number of exhibits being closed and the poorly maintained grounds. The admission price is waaayyyy overpriced for what is available. I agree with another reviewer. This place needs to be closed down and revamped or the tickets discounted by at least 50%. I can tell that the pre-Covid zoo was probably worth a visit. Sadly, that’s not the case presently.

Over priced. Lots of exhibits were temporarily closed as well as the little train and carousel. I realize we visited during the winter, but I had expectations given the cost.

The SF Zoo is a must stop if you’re visiting the city with children. It usually takes us a few hours to walk the full loop, starting with their beautiful Africa habitat and ending with the petting zoo. This zoo is such a special place and the care given to the animals there, especially their geriatric chimpanzees, is known throughout the world. Perfect if you’re just visiting the area or even if you’re a local, the SF Zoo has much to offer everyone - young and old.

A no car place to enjoy with young children. Visitors are always kind, Zoo staff are always out of our way but present whenever needed. Animals are doing their own thing, so great to observe them on their own terms. Definitely a must visit with toddlers and young children, and you can even picnic here, bringing your own foods for picky eaters.

This zoo is a HUGE Overpriced disappointment. FIRST impressions are LASTING impressions.
1. Parking lot is wayyy too small!
2. Very small number AND variety of
animals.
3. Several exhibits are closed, some
have NO animal(s), and most of
the animals were sleeping or
laying around like they are tired or
out of it!
4. Food and gift shops are WAY
OVERPRICED!!!
5. Train ride is a joke AND too costly
for the short, boring ride.

Whoever owns this zoo needs to close it or get it together. This is a 2nd class joke.
