Great way to see a few of SFs beautiful sites: palace of fine arts, Golden Gate bridge, and Sausalito. Our guide, Blake, was knowledgeable and humorous, providing us insightful facts on the city with a few laughs along the way. You get a bit of every kind of terrain, from pavement to some dirt, and two inclines thrown in (nothing that cant be done in lower gear). We had a beautiful fog-less day and Blake made sure we knew we were getting a rare view of the bridge. A note to those with smaller children. The final part of the tour involves riding on the shoulder of a narrow roadway with a decent if not significant decline. We had a family on our tour who chose to walk the final leg of the tour because they were uncomfortable with having their young children ride the roadway. Bikes are able to take up the entire travel lane (Blake explained this law to us several times) but could still be scary for those not use to riding on a roadway with vehicles. Also, research the lunch locations on Sausalito ahead of time and try and book reservation prior to the day of the tour. Locations are limited and reservations fill up quickly and you only have so much time between when the tour ends and when the ferry depart as they do not run often. Overall, a great way to experience the city.

Excellent bike tour! My fam of five (husband, older teen, and young adults) opted for a private bike tour of San Francisco to Sausalito. Blake was our guide. We started in San Fran at the bike shop where we met Blake reviewed our itinerary, got fitted for bikes, and performed safety checks. We opted for regular bikes not electric which was fine for us- we tend to be an active family and looked forward to the challenge. Blake maintained a comfortable pace making sure the group was together. We had a few stops along the way for just the right amount of history, rest if needed, and also prep for the ride (hill, traffic, pedestrians, bridge, etc) ahead so that we were safe and ready. Our trip ended in Sausalito. Blake went back for his next tour and my fam had lunch (reservations made) and toured Sausalito for a few hours on our own. Three of us opted to ride back while two took the ferry (bought tickets at dock). The ride back was a bit more challenging but worth it. We all met back the bike rental shop to return bikes. In all the day was 11-6ish. Three-hour guided tour with ample time on our own. Highly recommend it.
The bike shop is conveniently located near pier 39 and ferry terminal. Recommend reserving parking for the day at pier 39 garage parking garage in advance. Much less than paying hourly.

Fantastic experience. Highly recommend the e-bike upgrade and make use of the trails and go explore(the full day bike rental is included). Pays for itself cuz you can skip the ferry ride back and ride back! Surreal experience riding across the Golden Gate Bridge with other bikes whizzing by you and traffic on the other side. Both our boys 16 and 20 loved it. Highly recommend.

We booked guided tour, using e-bikes, over the bridge to Sausalito. On the return trip (as we have 2 active teens and opted not to do the ferry) one of our e-bikes started to fail. And the tour guide is only with you until you get there, you’re on your own after that.

Considering the stress and time this added to our return trip and the considerable up charge for this bike over regular one, I was not very happy by the end of the trip. Minus one star for this experience.

Our group had a mix of both regular and ebikes. We were not expecting that. We were told at the start by our guide that we would just have to go slower given large number of regular bikes in the group. We were surprised by this. What’s the point of having this kind of bike then?? Minus one star for that.

If you do an ebike trip because you are hoping to see more and cover more ground and don’t want stress of equipment failure then I suggest 1) go with tour with all e-bikes 2) go with tour that has you with guide the whole time, so if there are problems with it you are not stuck dealing with it on your own. Due to the battery these bikes are much heavier. It was hard work biking uphill with no extra assistance compared with what a regular bike would take.

In summary I recommend shopping around on your bike tour options.

Our guide was nice and the other folks on the trip were great. Very helpful and friendly and from all over the world.

We are so sorry about the one E bike powering down, we were so relieved we could get a new bike to you right away and keep you going on the ride. We do have an all electric bike tour if you are wanting that next time, called Streets of San Francisco- it will give you the mileage and coverage of the city you seemed to have been seeking!

Customer service before and after the bike was terrible. All the staff was hangover or pissed off that day. You asked questions and I got answers with the worst attitude possible. I had done tours in different cities around the world (Paris, Londres, Tokio, Chicago etc) and by far this was the less "informative". It will had been cheaper to rent the bike and ride by ourselves.

I was impressed to get this service after looking at other reviews. I guess Adam is the guy, other than that I will not recommend.

I'm a biker so I'm confortable riding in slopes and bla bla. But they should let now beginners about the downhills, I'm surprised that no one had suffer an accident.

They should let you know too that for 2 adults from sausalito the cost of the ferry is 14 dollars per person (this will not be optional) - unless you are willing to go back in steep hills with crappy bikes (no way). Take in consideration that you will spend another 1 hour or so in line waiting to hope on the ferry + 30 mins to pier 41. And look at the schedule. Our tour guide gave us other return hours, thank god I went and asked otherwise I will had spent the entire afternoon in Sausalito.

Fabio- Thank you for your review. We are surprised to hear that the tour was not informative. As you can read in other reviews, our guides clock in typically at 5 stars, not just Adam. We are proud of all them and can't see any helpful feedback in your review on what lacking. It sounds like you started on the wrong foot at sign up. We don’t conduct hangover tests every morning, and can assure you our hard-working staff are well trained and highly professional. It’s really low to be accused of being hungover by a customer- perhaps the pot calling the kettle black as it sounds like you are an expert on what hangovers look like. Further, since you are “a biker”, you could have ridden the bikes back, as you found the $14 ferry ticket too expensive to purchase for yourself and your partner. Its surprising as most customers consider that money well-spent, marveling at the affordability of this quasi- Bay Cruise back to SF- that includes a FREE bike haul and boasts a welcoming refreshment bar. Either way we hope you enjoyed your stay in San Francisco.

Tour guide w information /history was great. A couple tough rides uphill but always an option to walk up your bike. It was a really sunny day ( don’t forget to wear sunscreen !) Loved pic opportunities and exercise ! In Sausalito for lunch , I would recommend a stop at Copita ( tequileria y comida) restaurant almost directly across from ferry terminal.

We had recommendations from friends to take a cycle tour over the Golden Gate Bridge and with Bay City Bike Rentals, we did just that. We took the option of the standard (non-electric) bike, which, on the whole, was a good idea. The ride is fun, exhilarating and informative.

Our guide for the tour was Adam whose passion for the job and for the area was clearly evident. There was a good mix of local information, historical information and also lots of opportunities for some great photographs. We were blessed too with the weather on the day we toured, which made it even nicer.

The tour does involve a couple of steep climbs, which may be hard for some riders. If you think this may be an issue, the centre does offer upgrades to electric bikes which may be worth considering - it’s a purely personal choice. When you’ve crossed the bridge, there is also a steep road down into the lovely town of Sausalito. It’s quite a busy road, but drivers are clearly used to cyclists sharing the road; it is just worth noting that you come down pretty quickly!

When you collect your bikes, you will need to sign a waiver and also opt in/out of the $4 insurance per bike, as well as opting to pay for the return ferry from Sausalito. This is worth doing and it is also worth making some time to explore this lovely little town before you head back.

I would really recommend this tour as a great way to see some views of the Bay that other tours don’t offer and to get a bit of a workout as well.

Great quality electric bike. The staff in the shop was competent, friendly and helpful.
The tour was really nice as long as you do not ask questions to the tour guide, Judy. I asked her several questions about the city and she got angry at me saying and raieed her voice at me. It created an unpleasant atmosphere until the end of the tour. Also we lost 5 people from the tour as one woman fell and the guide did not even notice. But she did remember to ask us for tips at the end of the tour.
So I would recommend the bike rental place but not necessarily the guided tour, at least not with Judy.

Hi Audrey First I am happy to report no one was lost. Those folks had pulled over and called to say that had an emergency and would come off the tour and instead come back. This may not have communicated to all on the tour, as it was a private matter, but the tour guide absolutely knew what was underway. Next, we are surprised to hear about Judy from your perspective. She normally gets raves reviews and yours is unusual feedback. We will be sure to follow up and find out what was happening for her during the tour. We apolgize if she reacted in way that triggered or offended you in any way, we do not mean for that to happen. We hope you can try us again and feel free to ask for a different guide. Thanks!

Thank you so much, Steve for the smooth ride to Sausalito! Thank you as well to the team for allowing me to try on the bike before leaving for the tour. All of them are very friendly.

I’m a solo rider joining a family of 4 and a couple. I love how small our group was which made our “picstops” (picture stops) quick. I’m glad I took the ebike option as the hilly sections were quite steep for me. But having said that, the lady in our group which appears to be in her 50’s cycled (regular bike) the slopes just fine.

For someone who’s not used to cycling on the same road as cars, I was a little bit scared. There was also a portion where the descent was long and I cycled very slowly. I was too mindful of my bike brakes scared that it will snap or lose its grip. The entire group was kind enough to wait for me. Thank you to Steve especially.

I paid an addition of $10 for the bike’s insurance. I also provided my credit card for the company to hold $500 as deposit. This isn’t a charge. But just a holding charge for the company to protect their property.

One problem was the ferry back from Sausalito to San Francisco. I was at Sausalito around 12:55pm. The signages there indicates that the ferry to the Wharf will leave at 2pm. However, the current ferry that’s docked set for The Ferry Building hasn’t left yet at 1:45pm. There was only one ferry docking station and the departure times weren’t really accurate. I ended up taking the ferry to the ferry building and cycled approximately 8 minutes to Taylor Street. I understand that this is no longer within the responsibility of the bike company.

For this reason, I’d still give them a 5 star rating :-)
