We never got a confirmation for the reservation and the museum didn’t either. We were told we would have to get a refund from traveladvisor.com. Where do we even begin?

Everything is extra.
TripAdvisor gave us a good rate for General Admission, which doesn't include the Butterfly Center nor the planetarium. But we got a discount on Special Exhibits. The Ramses II exhibit was great. Don't miss ths Asian Jade and Gold exhibit which is included in general admission. Non-member garage parking is $20. Cafeteria menu is limited and entree prices are $10 and above for burgers, chicken sandwiches, and chicken tenders. Seating is limited on busy weekends.

This is a fabulous museum in Houston in the museum district. Well worth the time viewing the dinosaurs, gems, and the museum gift shop. We also watched a movie in one of the the theaters.

Amazing dinosaur and mineral collections
We went to the museum to kill some time while traveling, and I was amazed at how good the museum was. The dinosaur collection is one of the best I have seen, and I’ve been to the Smithsonian natural history museum, the Field Museum (Chicago), the Dallas Perot museum and the natural history museum in London. There were just so many dinosaurs from various periods and the bones are exhibited with plaques of information and pictures of how the look. Very well done. The have a collection of wildlife displayed like it would be if it was in nature, and that was cool. Just be ware there are some animals being eaten in the displays, but that’s reality isn’t it? LOL I don’t usually walk mineral displays, but this one was worth it. Talk about some amazing stones. The staff was very courteous. The other guests were polite, and we had room to move even being there on a busy Saturday afternoon. We bought our tickets on TripAdvisor and saved half what we would have paid at the museum, and we got to go into the members/corporate purchase line and skip waiting with those in general admission. I highly recommend this museum for any age, but elementary kids and older will definitely appreciate it.

Great place to visit in Houston
Sep 2021
A great place to visit in Houston! They have discount for students so remember to bring your student ID if you have one. I'd recommend the fourth floor exhibits where you can learn about oil and gas drilling (Sponsored by the big oil companies, of course) and the Malacology and the Mineral exhibitions on the second floor where you can see tons of amazing gorgeous shining shells and gems. It could take a whole day to carefully go through all the exhibitions (third floor was under construction when I visited).

If you ever go to Houston, you have to go to this Museum. Our kids were so excited about all the dinosaurs and artifacts, they talked about this for days.

Body World and the Life Cycle
I finally worked up the courage to visit the special exhibit Body World and the Cycle of Life at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Each piece of the exhibit is from a deceased person who donated their body to science. Each body is preserved by a process called plastination developed by Gunther von Hagens in 1977. The water and fat are replaced by certain plastics, yielding specimens that can be touched, do not smell or decay, and even retain most properties of the original sample. There is a video that illustrates the process that you view during the exhibit.

There are 2 exhibits spaces on different levels. You can take as much time as you like to marvel, cry, or photograph with no camera light. A cautionary room with posted warnings is dedicated to an infant’s life cycle.

The duration depends on you. It is tastefully done as you proceed through with clearly illustrated plaques and well lit display cases. It is a vast amount to absorb and not for the faint hearted.
It is well worth the trip.

Enjoyable morning
Went to visit the body worlds exhibit and enjoyed it. Not too crowded at all but a bit pricey on top of normal admission. Walked through some of the permanent exhibits afterwards and learned quite a bit.
