We had read on trip advisor that a horse drawn carriage ride was a great way to get acquainted with Charleston, and there was a Groupon for the Carolina Polo & Carriage Co so hooray! Ours was only a day trip from Myrtle Beach, and the tour was perfect! Even though it was hot as heck we really enjoyed the sights and backstory of many things that make Charleston so special. So much better than a Google-Map guided car tour! I advise anyone to start their Charleston vacay with one of these tours. It provides context for the city as well as many other places you’ll want to visit on your own time.

We visited Charleston on a very hot week in July, and this covered horse-drawn carriage tour was absolutely wonderful! We got to sit back under the shaded canopy and see the city up close with a fantastic tour guide.
Our guide is a history teacher who during summer months has been giving tours for 20 years! To say he knows the history of Charleston is an understatement, plus he has a very fun engaging personality. He gave us great bits of history and fun facts as we passed homes, and landmarks. We could have walked passed these same places without ever knowing the backstory, so I loved hearing about some of the people & events that have made this fascinating city.
One thing I found interesting is that there are 5 routes that the carriages can be assigned, so really if we were to come back I would do the ride again, because there is a very good chance it would be an entirely different route with all new information. I would highly recommend!

We booked through Groupon and immediately regretted it when we walked up to get our tickets. The place was not kept up and looked awful compared to their 3 counterparts. Apparently the tour routes are random based on city lottery and we must have gotten the worst one because the route didn’t really drive by much, just some side streets with not much to offer. Very disappointed in the route. But the main reason for the low rating is the professionalism of the company. They sell tickets at multiple locations and overbooked our ride and you could hear them all blaming each other and scolding each other over the walkie talkies. And when our tour ended, we pulled up to the building during an all out shouting match between two employees - someone was SCREAMING at the ticket lady and she was SCREAMING back. For minutes. It was so awkward and unprofessional. Do yourself a favor and book with one of the other 3 companies instead. We saved a total of $5 per person with the Groupon. Totally not worth it. You’ve been warned.

Our tour was packed into the carriage like sardines on a 90 plus degree day. Sixteen full grown adults smashed and I do mean crowed into a carriage. My seat did not even have a cushion long enough for our row. Things were so crowded both my feet did not have room to touch the floor because of the back wheel. My leg and foot alternated falling asleep due to lack of circulation. Our tour guide was so difficult to hear the four of us in the backrow could not hear him. When we arrived back at the barn we couldn't get anyone to bring a ladder to allow the group off the carriage. Our group in unison yelled to finally get someone to bring a ladder after baking in the sun for 10 minutes. Try a different company who respects their consumers enough to deliver quality service. If you are not fully vaccinated or immune compromised steer clear of this carriage company.

I was excited to do this tour as we always look forward to city tours. But this one did not meet expectations. We were in the back of the carriage so I probably only heard 20% of what the guide said. He was a really nice guy but soft spoken and with no mic we just couldn't hear him. We told him more than once we couldn't hear him but to no avail. We felt cheated so we took a different company tour in a mini bus a few days later and it was phenomenal.

In Charleston for an anniversary weekend, we decided to take a carriage ride around the historic city. We checked in and walked to the waiting area for our carriage - approx. 10-15 minutes. The 3 rows of the carriage were each separated by clear plastic sheeting, as well as a plastic barrier between the guide and the first row. The company was very conscientious of social distancing protocol and even sent out our carriage with only 4 people rather than try to cram another party of 4 in to the same carriage.
Scott was incredibly knowledgeable and very engaging during the entire tour, and Picasso walked at a lovely leisurely pace, ensuring we had a wonderful view of the sights.
I HIGHLY recommend this excursion, as it was informative and entertaining!

We were in Charleston on a very stormy weekend and glad we found a rain-free hour to do this carriage ride. We met the carriage on Pinckney Street and was told by tour guide David that our horse was the slowest and oldest which turned out to be a great thing coz we were able to leisurely take lots of pictures of the beautiful homes. This company is 1 of 4 that operate carriage rides in the city. We found a Groupon that was $8 off the regular rate for a couple. There were 8 of us total, 2 on each row. Route isn’t up to David, there’s a tourism person who assigns the route - to regulate horse traffic. We saw a lot of the wealthy residential area including Bill Murray’s home. We didn’t pass the pineapple fountain nor Rainbow Row. David’s mask was on his chin the whole time so it’s good that we were seated in the back row. We had a great time. It’s the perfect intro to this beautiful city.

Purchased tickets in advance to make a day trip to fit in as much of the Charleston area as possible with my family. We fit in as much as possible before rushing to Carolina Polo and Carriage before 3:30 - thinking in the case that the 3:30 tour was booked, there would be another after. Told they had been sold out for the day 40 minutes prior and was assured my tickets would be good for the following day... What?! What is the point in purchasing tickets for any day if they are going to oversell?! By that time in the day, all of the other carriage rides were fully booked. Website needs to have a time reservation or a notice that you may not ride so make backup plans. I drove over 3 hours home with two bummed little girls.

Nice tour with 11 other tourists. Guide was knowledgeable and had grown up in Charleston. The city determines which route in downtown you take. We took route 5 and the guide was great, gave restaurant recommendations and other areas that we should check out that weren't on our route. Nice way to tour Charleston and learn some of the history.
