- mariamQ5497HK0 contributionsFantastic! 💯A most wonderful experience! The serene environment was brought to life by Dave’s extensive knowledge and experience as a guide in the area! His trusty first mate Dougi🐶 was always on the job too! Dave was very kind in allowing us ample time to photograph these amazing animals! 🐊 🐍 🦉 🐸 Thank you Dave! Cheers Maria&Roger (Melbourne) PS: Dave, I found this on the crocodile mouth gaping… “Display and Communication: An open mouth can serve as a display of aggression or dominance, particularly during territorial disputes or mating rituals. It can also be a way to communicate with other crocodiles.” I think Dusty was putting Scarface in his place! 😁Written 22 August 2024
- Tanya M0 contributionsAmazing Daintree River boat experienceI have rarely felt so close to nature and the experience of seeing crocodiles in the wild - large and very small - will stay with me forever. It would not have been the experience it was without John locating the crocodiles and explaining the river eco- system with the knowledge and passion he has. As a family we found it very interesting and inspiring hour and well worth the price of the ticket. Still talking about it days later !Written 5 February 2024

- 763kerrieg0 contributionsA must do!Our guide was hugely knowledgeable and gave such a great insight to the local wildlife. We saw all sorts from crocs to birds and frogs. There aren’t too many people on the tour so it doesn’t feel overly commercial and the boat is a perfect size to get up close to the wildlifeWritten 27 December 2023

- Epax A0 contributionsAwesome experiencehighly recommendable experience. Quietly floating with the quiet solar boat itself is very nice. Also it is one of the smaller boats on the river, so you don't have to share your experience only with a small group, which makes it infinitely better (you also get better looks at everything).. super knowledgeable guide who pointed out the Crocs, a snake in the tree, a baby croc and a tree frog and gave lots of information. All in all awesome and will do it again, if I ever come back to Daintree.Written 20 October 2023

It was honestly amazing we got to Soo so many crocodiles swimming and out on the banks. Our kids loved it and the driver of our boat was awesome stopping and explaining everything and informing us all about crocodiles. I would recommend the 9.30am tour as we had the boat to ourselves with one other couple so could move around freely. The 10.45 your was booked out and when we got back there was 20-30 people waiting to get on the boat. Highly recommend this company!Written 11 May 2023

Honestly loved this trip so very much. I would recommend Dave and Duggie’s cruise any day of the week!
Our group of six included two handicapped individuals and both made it easily onto and off of the boat, as well everyone was wonderfully accomodating of us. There’s a tv and laser pointer that Dave, the captain, uses to point out and show you things that are hard to see or easily missed. Including the small baby crocs from 3-6 months old! We got to see a great range of crocs on our trip. From the 60+ year old scarface, his girlfriends and maybe even his grandsons(no way of telling!)
It was truly worth ever dollar, to see and be immersed in the lives of all those living in this beautiful river.
We went in Aug 202 for the 9:30 cruise, and would all recommend trying to make that time, as it was mentioned that the crocs are more easily see when it is a bit cooler~ 🐊

Ha ha funny title, the Days of the Daintree is the only soap opera you need. So happy to see you enjoyed your time with us and that you found the communal binoculars the TV was helpful. So glad that you saw some of our famous A-Listers that being the Crocs. Warm regards David

Most of the crocodile tours on the daintree are similar and hence it came down to price when choosing my tour. The boats use the same path from what I saw and they have walkie / talkie to communicate when they see a crocodile so if one boat sees it all the other boats will also get to see it and hence choose the tour which is the least pricey unless you take a longer tour.
Our tour guide was quite informative and was very accomodating to late comers who had booked on the tour and had not show up which was good. He has a lot of knowledge of the local area and the crocdiles that inhabit the area. Even if you dont see a crocodile on your tour which is a possibility you would feel you have gained some knowledge of the local daintree.
Facemasks were not provided since they were not required during our visit.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review we really appreciated it and we are so happy you enjoyed your time with us and chose Solarwhisper. Did you know that while we are all on the same river and we do indeed share our sightings so that everyone can have experience, we are different. We are the only electric boats to operate on this river, in addition we have solar panels on the roof that continuously generate power. We create no wake, no fumes, no oil, no smell snd less noise. So when you travel with us you can rest assure that your time on the river did not impact on this fragile ecosystem nor its residents, a win for you and a win for nature. We are also one of the smaller boats in the river many of the others operate 60 seater boats with a 10 seater and a 24 seater so we are more intimate and personal. We are slo family owned and operated. So in addition to our low prices as you may see there are many differences. Kind regards David and Solarwhisper team

Although we had the pleasure of enjoying this wildlife cruise in the wet season, which means croc sitings may be minimal, we actually did see some crocs. The guides are very informative about the history of the area, plants, floods and of course crocs and wildlife.
Communication between cruise boats and even different companies is maximised to ensure croc sighting locations are shared. This increases the opportunity for as many passengers as possible to view a croc in the wild.
The customer service experience from all at Solar Whisper is fantastic, friendly and welcoming. Unlimited water, tea, coffee and biscuits (these were wafers on our visit - who doesnt like a wafer) are available whilst you wait and you can take a cuppa on board with you if you choose.
The boat is extremely quiet and has a suitable canopy to keep the direct sun off you, it also has a video camera and monitor in order to zoom in to find hidden crocs, so all can see. Guides can spot a croc very easily with their trained eyes. They make every effort to ensure all passengers each have photo opportunities and will patiently wait if required.
Public toilets are available about 15 metres away. There is no wifi or at least sketchy wifi in this area.
There are some great fake crocs around for photo opportunities.
They have a great offer during the wet season - in the event that you dont see any crocs or just little ones, you can come back for free within the next few days or so, just remember to get a return pass and/or keep your receipt.

Thank you so much for your review really glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us. It is our passion to show case this area to the beat of our ability . It’s great you enjoyed our solar electric boat as we pride ourselves on viewing the river with as little impact as possible to the fragile ecosystem and the animals that reside there. It is true that wet season is not the optimal time to view crocs so it’s wonderful that you were able to see some. Like you said we offer free return cruises in the event that the wildlife is not visible. Enjoy the rest of your holidays , warm regards Team Solarwhisper

Fantastic tour I did it twice, both times were different and informative with awesome sightings. I highly recommend this boat over the rivals as smaller and more personal experience with the guide and up close to wildlife feel that was quiet and authentic as elec motor noise didn’t obstruct the experience. Both guides were brilliant. Highlight was when a baby croc swam alongside the boat - so good!

This tour was absolutely brilliant! We saw 3 adult crocs (Nate, Dusty Rose and the incredible Scarface!), and one little hatchling. We also saw several different types of birds, a big cluster of snakes in a tree (we have been living in Australia 2 years and this was the first time we saw snakes so we were very happy), and a lovely white lipped tree frog which actually lives in David's boat! David is very knowledgeable, funny and his commentary is always very interesting and informative. I personally think it's great that he is able to spread an important message about the environment, wildlife and aboriginal history/culture to such an array of different people. The solar panel powered boat was also a massive tick for us. With the setting of the Daintree and seeing the wildlife in their natural environment it's safe to say this tour really exceeded our expectations! Try go during a low tide and that will improve your chances of seeing some lovely crocs. :) Thanks to David and the Solar Whisper team!

Dave,Dougie and Jo gave us the most FANTASTIC experience. Although it was an incoming tide, a difficult time to spot crocs, we were incredibly lucky. Dave is passionate about these fascinating prehistoric and often maligned creatures. He has an extraordinary eye and sees things most of us would miss. All the Crocs have names and Dave knows their habits well, consequently we saw the king, Scarface, and several of his concubines including an extraordinary display from Scooter his current favorite who gave a primordial roar as he floated past. We saw osprey, kingfishers and Papuan frogmouths, all very well hidden...
The boat is narrow and very quiet so Dave can navigate up creeks which gives you quite an advantage over the bigger boats.
Altogether a fabulous experience I would highly recommend, we learnT so much about these fascinating creatures and their habitat.
Couldn't recommend highly enough.

We took a mid morning cruise after driving up from Cairns. We were not expecting to see a lot of crocodiles because of the time of year but thought we may see plenty of birds. Our guide gave lots of information and endeavored to find wildlife on the river banks. We did see 2 baby crocodiles and the head of an adult as well as 2 white lipped frogs, which we were pleased to see. There were hardly any birds which was a disappointment but our guide said after heavy rain you don't often see a lot of birds and it had rained heavily during the night. All in all a good experience and one I'd do again if visiting at a different time of year.

Thank you for your review glad you enjoyed your time with us. We never know what we will see as it’s totally a wild experience and that is totally out of our control. Unfortunately many of our waders disappeared years ago I don’t know why, however it’s often a case of can’t see the birds for the trees. Bird viewing is often easier when there’s not so much vegetation to hide in. I myself wish there were more birds . Kind regards David

We had a great time on the Solar Whisper croc cruise, this is the second time I’ve used Solar Whisper. The boat is electric so minimal environmental impact, it was small enough to get into nooks, the skipper had excellent knowledge of the local wildlife.
We managed to see 3 crocs despite coming in the summer when it’s warmer and the crocs are less likely to come out of the water!

I recently went on Solar Whisper cruise on the Daintree river, I was recommended and not disappointed. The boat was quiet using electric motors which was good as we made no impact on the river. I like to be able to chose a tour with little impact knowing that I did not leave a big footprint. The guide was very passionate and knowledgeable and told us many stories. We saw crocodiles , snakes and frogs as well as the lovely surrounding scenery of the magnificent Daintree rainforest and mangroves. Highly recommend.

This was amazing! Marc was our fabulous tour guide, accompanied by Pepper, who was a jaunty little show stopper. Within 5 minutes we saw Scarface swimming towards us, who stayed at the surface and gave a little river bank show before ominously dropping under the water out of sight. Apart from some bubbles showing that he was still there lurking...
We then had the good fortune of seeing his missus.... Bruce 😂, who had a whole stack of little babies around her. So exciting as we were told this was a rare sight.
Highly recommend this trip. Marc was top grade, knew lots about lots, and the boat was comfy and quiet, so you can get up close and personal. Loved every minute!

Thank you for your lovely review we really are grateful. Marc is a fantastic guide and we are so lucky to have him as part of the team. Peppa of course is the cutest dog in the world well after my dog 🤣. So glad you got to cruise with the kin, that’s what we call Scarface. It’s such a wonderful experience. And you saw Bruce and her babies which is also amazing, such incredible mums. Thanks again for your review . Happy holidays.

Hi there,
I was wondering if you could tell me what times the boat tours depart? And how often they go in a day?
Many thanks

HI as listed in the other answer, they tend to go about 1'5 hours apart. You can pre-buy your ticket but not sure what the policy is if you & your party are the only clients for a specific trip.
It's a great trip - enjoy.

I’d really like to book a river boat trip (myself and 2 children 12 and 14) for Friday 7th June but would prefer to do the 2hr trip. Just wondering if that is possible for this Friday. If not we will book the 1hr.
Thanks in advance
