Good tour
Oct 2021
Good tour. A lot of architectural information - too much to take in. I was disappointed that we didn't go down the river more than we did; we turned around at the bend and didn't head south. About 20 minutes or so is taken going through the locks and back. This is, of course, unavoidable when going between the river and the lake, but it does not add up to 45 minutes on the river and 45 minutes on the lake. I recommend this tour as a must-do if you visit Chicago.

If it wasn't chilly it would have gotten a five. Dress appropriately and enjoy the river and lake tour, a must especially if you never been to Chicago.

It was surprised for us from Houston, TX (the 4th largest city) to view and know more about tall buildings in Chicago, IL (the 3rd largest city in the U.S.). Thank you.

Locals Love It Too
May 2021
I have lived in Chicago for 12 years, and while I love visitors, I usually loathe what they want to drag me to do downtown. I'd much rather show them a new neighborhood, which is nearly always more interesting and less expensive than anything downtown.

The architectural boat tour is the exception. It sounds boring, and I often have to say something like, "I know it sounds nerdy, and I need you to trust me on this."

The lake & river tour usually starts by going south on the river, with gorgeous views and fun explanations of the wild architectural innovations that occurred in Chicago's history, resulting in a gorgeous downtown full of unique structures. It's so relaxing.

Plus, there's a bar.

Then, out on the lake, the wind whips (usually pleasantly), and you get the full view of the skyline, a view you can't get from anywhere but well out in the lake. There are a few tidbits the guide shares out there, but it's mostly just a comfortable cruise with incredible views.

I highly recommend checking the weather and avoiding the tour just before sunset, as from the lake, the buildings will mostly be in silhouette, dimming the many colors of the skyline.

For locals and tourists, I highly recommend spending an hour and a half loving on the city with one of these tours!

So glad we did this
Oct 2021
Do you really care about the architectural history of Chicago? No, but it does make the tour pretty interesting. And the views from the boat - both up & down the river, and out on Lake Michigan, ae fantastic. Well work the price, and add it to your itinerary.

I loved this tour! My kids loved being out on the boat. Being a single parent, this trip was excellent because they were so happy just to be out on a boat and see the city that I was able to actually listen to our tour guide. Even our service dog liked it :) he kept popping his head out of one of the little holes as though it was own personal window.

A great architecture lake and river tour

We had a fantastic tour - the tour guide was knowledgeable and funny and had Lots of interesting facts and stories about all the Chicago buildings and structured. The duration was just right -90 mins . Very recommended !
The only thing was , we booked through Viator ( which is a TripAdvisor company apperantly ) but the tour company did not find our booking in their records . We had to show them the receipt and then they were ok but such a thing cannot happen . This is not against the tour company, but rather something Viator should improve on

A Must-Do When Visiting Chicago
Oct 2021
While visiting Chicago for the first time in 20 years, my friends made the EXCELLENT decision to book this tour. It was so entertaining and enjoyable (even for our friends that are “locals.” Our tour guide Kenneth was super informative and engaging and gave us great trivia. I now have a new favorite building in Chicago (the St Regis building) and I can’t wait to come back with my husband so he can experience this fabulous tour.
