Purchased the Explorer Pass online prior to mid-July trip to Chicago. We rate this as average because it is convenient to obtain and perhaps can save you money based on your personal choices. However, it is not for everyone and its use is somewhat misleading. Examples: If you want to do the fireworks cruise on the Tall Ship Windy, it's not included with the Pass, and there are others like that. For the more popular venues, such as Skydeck, you have to reserve a time and that attraction will only allow a reservation in advance and in person. Some others are the same way, such as the Big Bus Architectural Night Tour, which only departs from the Navy Pier area and requires an in person reservation. We attempted to go on a weeknight on that Tour only to be turned away because the tour was fully booked and we had not reserved in person and in advance. While as a couple we saved a few dollars we found using the pass was not as convenient as we had hoped, particularly due to the "in person advance reservation" requirements of a number of the more popular attractions. If you have to do that, you may as well pay when reserving for only a modest saving otherwise.

I purchased the 5 day explorer pass for a girls trip through Sam’s Club. The web site had show 3 of the attractions were closed due to Covid. When trying to use the pass you will need to copy/paste the order # and your email into the app. When the pass did not work I had to call Sam’s Club to get a new order #. But when make an online reservation at the 360 and Willis Tower the app nor the web site worked. When calling Go City they said they will call you back but sent an email advising me sorry for the inconvenience.

Was in Chicago for July 4rth weekend and bought this pass for my family. It was accepted at the places I selected except SkyDeck. I was told at SkyDeck that this pass is valid only Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Clear information about the acceptability of the pass would be useful. My whole plan for the day got disturbed as this was not accepted at SkyDeck on a Sunday. Have to pay additional from my pocket for Skydeck.

If you have a problem with the download after you pay for your passes—good luck. I purchased the tickets via credit card and never received the confirmation email.

I called customer service—a central call center—and they asked me to send a copy of my credit card receipt to a random email. Someone responded 8 hours later. Apparently the one person to help works the night shift. Still no tickets after she sent. Emailed her back. She asked for confirmation of email address. I confirmed—no email or response, 15 hours later.

Summary below:

Purchased tickets on line: 1am Weds
Called customer service in the morning—no tickets
Received an email back 8 hours later— they were resending
Contacted them again Thursday: waited another 8 hours for response
Friday at 4 pm: Still no tickets and no response to two emails. Called customer service again and got recording at 4pm CT that they are closed.

For a supposedly global company they have serious issues and a lack of customer service. Frustrating experience to say the least. My trip is in two days and I have no reservations for the attractions because I can’t get them to resend an email? They have my $400 Amex payment and I have no tickets 3 days later.

No choice but to dispute the charge and move on.

Something that should have been resolved in a few hours….not resolved after 3 full days.

On the pass it has an expectation date. It seems that on te website it says that the pass needs to be used within 40 days of when you use the first experience. It does not say that on the virtual ticket. It has an expiration date. I used the first 3 experiences and then was not able to use the fourth due to family matters. The tickets remained in my virtual wallet on the app with a expiration date of June 29, 2022. As the date was approaching, I made the effort to go to one of the museums in Chicago to use the passes. At the museum they told me the pass was coming up expired. I called Go City and was told that I should have read the rules on the website. I pointed out that no where on the tickets do they indicate the limitation and that the tickets continued to appear on the app with the expiration date. The Go City representative was rude and no help.

Bad experience. We arrived at our first destination of the day and our passes wouldn't scan. I spent two hours on the phone outside the Chicago Field Museum trying to work with Go City to get our passes working on the app. They finally worked, but we had lost so much time out of our day, which was a Sunday when things closed earlier anyway. I asked Go City if we could get any time of compensation for the time lost, and they basically told me to kick rocks. Was not worth the price.

Worst experience! I made a reservation for the 360 Sky Deck in the Hancock Tower. Due to bad weather and poor view, they recommended me to postpone the reservation. However, this can only happen through Go City. The man on the phone told me that he could not do this and thus my attraction was forfeited. He could offer me to check the reservation confirmation, but this would take 24-48 hours. Thanks for nothing!!!

We were only able to use one of our passes (on the 360 Chicago). We tried to go to the Skydeck to use our second pass and they told us they couldn’t take us because they were booked. But we had tickets so that didn’t make sense to me. We were only in the city for one day so it’s not like we could redeem them at another time. Really disappointed.

Average pass to the city, a lot of things were closed due to Covid which can’t be helped and the time of year which was a bit disappointing. However when using the pass to go to what we could, easy to use. Most annoyingly we waited for hop on hop off bus which only ran Friday to Monday, nowhere does it say this anywhere!
