We went for Harry Potter and were not disappointed with that experience at all. Both parks have a Harry Potter area and both live up to the hype. Even as an almost 60 year old guy, the wand shop was amazing. Seeing the architecture that looked just like the movies was unreal. The rides in both parks were great.

What I hated were the food, lines and prices. After paying about $850 for entrance to the two parks you have to pony up $27 for parking, or $60 for cost parking. And for that the moving sidewalks and a few escalators did not work. Wow.

The amount of lines and people are unreal. 75 minutes waits for the popular rides are not uncommon. This means if you buy a 2 park day pass there is no way you can ride all the rides you want. Am express pass is expensive and gets you moved up one time per ride.

And the food inside the parks? Horrific. My son bought him and I burgers and fries and cokes from Krusty Burger and paid over $40. The burger was above a school lunch burger but below every other burger on the planet. The fries were lukewarm.

I was at the park years ago right before harry potter opened. I do not need to go again, too me the money spent does not justify it.

Best day this year so far! We went yesterday, 9/6/2020. I took my 14 year old son, 6 year old daughter, and 3 year old son. This was their first time. We all had an equally great time. My little guy even got to ride 10 rides which I didn’t think was possible at Universal Studios, and loved every one especially Harry Potter. All my kids in unison said it’s way better than Disney! Posted wait times were overstated. We never waited for any ride for more than 25 minutes and it goes by so fast. One of my concerns was that we would not be able to ride the Harry Potter ride which was part of the Virtual Line rides, and we didn’t have express passes. I kept checking throughout the day for times to return to no avail. I already gave up on riding it, and was really disappointed, and we were getting ready to leave when they opened up the stand by queue!!! I was SO HAPPY even though the wait was close to 2 hours long. I didn’t care. I was sure it was worth it. However we didn’t have to wait even 5 minutes because we were one of the lucky few that got pulled out of the line by a Harry Potter angel named MIRANDA and taken right up to the ride by a “secret passage” with an elevator, and when we got to the boarding area we were the first and only ones there and at my daughters request got to ride in the first row! I cannot in words describe the gratitude I felt and actually cried after we got off the ride because I was so touched by Miranda’s actions and her interactions with my kids. She said she’s taking us a secret way because my 3 year old had the cutest mask on and kept it on the whole time with no complaints. I will forever be grateful for this experience that not only made my whole day, but our whole trip! Because of this we still had time to ride the minions ride and shop at gift shops. The only reason for 4 stars is because our dining experience was less than perfect. We got to the Krusty Burger at 2pm and did not get our food until 3:43pm. And that was after sitting down at our assigned table with a number for over 20 minutes, at which point I had to ask an associate more than once to please check on our order which was placed over and hour ago. With 2 young kids that act like they haven’t eaten in months, while watching everyone around them eat, it was not a pleasant and relaxing lunch that I anticipated. Other than, 5 stars all the way!! I am now seriously considering season passes as we live in Palm Beach County and I can totally see coming here at least once a month, and definitely for special events.

The parks are nice but way too many people in Harry Potter . Also staff is a bit rude. I wanted to buy merchandise and the employee was stocking I asked her nicely could I just grab a pair of socks and she got an attitude because I interrupted her stocking. Also I witness them getting upset because customers realized they forgot to use their ap discount and asked for the transaction to be redone. That should be part of Universal customer service to ask if we have AP or not. There were many times I brought food but forgot to show my AP because of just being overwhelmed with crowds and feeling rushed. Overall I think Disney and Universal is starting to slack on customer service which is starting to make the experience feel mediocre and overpriced.

I have been going to Universal Studios for several years and have always enjoyed it. This time it seemed very disorganized and it was so overcrowded. I always pay for the park to park tickets with express pass. Usually the lines are long but this time they were excessive - even the express were congested.

My main complaint is I bought the tickets through the Universal Studios app and chose the dates based on the park hours which showed til 10 pm. No where did it mention a grad night and the parks would close at 6 pm. If I had seen that anywhere I would have NEVER purchased them for those dates. I bought them over a month in advance and specifically went through the calendar to view the park hours just to see when they started staying open later. I spent over $1600 for three of us for two days with express pass. Since the park closed 4 hours early I feel we were !#$! out of 8 hours. Also the teenagers come in the park early and would let all their friends skip ahead so your queue for 1.5 hours turned to 2 or more. People were complaining and the workers simply said "it's grad night"

Even with an express pass you will not ride all the rides because of the long waits.
The Motorbike Ride and the Velocicoaster wait times were 1-2+ hours. I had three people with me who had never been to Universal and they were crushed they hadn't even made it through the first park before we were rudely ushered out at 6 without even an explanation. Another visitor there was kind enough to let us know it was grad night. The next day we weren't able to really enjoy the park because the entire day was spent rushing to try and ride all the rides before the park closed. I've read several reviews where people who bought tickets were unaware of the grad night because it was not listed. I would have NEVER bought tickets and assigned them for these days. It would be one thing if the grad night happened during the hours of 6 to 10 pm and the people who also paid for the dates could also stay but they herded everyone out of the park. Not only did I and others waste money but it soured the experience you want your guests to have when visiting Universal. I feel cheated out of a full day and hate that first time visitors had this lasting experience.

Hello Jen, I'm truly sorry to learn of your disappointment with our park hours, and I do completely understand your frustration with your time with us. Please know, we would never want to inconvenience our Guests, and so we do make our park hours as public as possible, with them being available at least a month out on our website for our Guests to plan their time with us. It's disheartening that you checked the hours on our website and didn't see these times reflected, as they weren't changed since they were posted for our annual GradBash event. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to share this experience and your frustrations with us, as I'll be sending them over to the proper teams for their internal review. If there's anything else you would like to let us know about from your weekend, our Guest Services Team would be happy to further document this. They're available at 407-224-4233, option 5, or at GuestServices@UniversalOrlando.com. I hope you and your Guests will give us another chance to better entertain you. -Chrisy

We bought the package for January 2022 because we were only able to spend one day at universal Orlando and thought it would be a good way to help see more of the park and bypass the lines for their high demand rides. However, the overall experience was more terrible than pleasant.

We did not receive any reminder emails or confirmation about our tour with any details on when/where to show up. This eventually led to us not even getting the included breakfast that the VIP experience advertised. Thankfully we had a breakfast bar to hold us over until lunch.

The morning began with our tour guide asking us if we had any requests or preferences on the tour and the two of us in my party were put in a group of 12 people total. I appreciated the tour guide’s genuine interest in taking care of us though (one of the few positives of the VIP experience)

Most of the morning was Harry Potter area and rides, which was good since that was what we were hoping for; however there were a few rides (Gringotts and Forbidden Journey) that several larger people in our group were unable to fit into the ride seat or were borderline at becoming ineligible, from what they shared it was a very mortifying and embarrassing situation since they were not aware before purchasing the park admission/vip experience. If people in your group are larger, heavier, taller, etc, it would be helpful to research or inquire about the ride dimensions before deciding to purchase tickets or experiences.

The lunch buffet was really nice, but they cramped all 12 of us into one table and it felt like sardines as most we were sitting shoulder to shoulder; would have been better to spread people out since there were quite a bit of open tables and space. In the afternoon, we did more rides and went to the other park and it was wasn’t too bad- especially being able to cut the lines.

Though I regret buying the VIP experience and might only recommend it if you:
1) have money to spend or
2) really want to cut the lines for major rides*

I have been coming to Universal Studios and Disney World Parks for decades. This year we decided to try 5 day 3 park to park passes, knowing there would be big crowds because of a holiday weekend, but we’ve done it before in Disney parks. The crowds were too much for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure to handle. The rides going down for extended periods after you have waited for 90+ minutes is a major issue. The staff seems instructed only repeat that there is an extended delay with no timeframe for the ride’s return to action. Also there are no passes given to ride another ride after waiting hours. This is a very poor policy and most major amusements parks (Disney and Six Flags for example)have a way better policy on the same issues. Customer service was not great and I frankly felt bad for the employees. The food lines were looong. Hours long at lunchtime, so they offer a Mobile Food ordering option, which I along with hundreds of others decided to use. We all expected a logical system, one where you order and are given a time estimate to return. We that didn’t happen and after paying there is a message that they’ll let you know when the order is fulfilled so you can come back. Well and hour plus wait and there was no message so I along with 100+ people went back to find out what was going on and we’re being told it could take over 2 hours and there would be no update with a time estimate. Is this 1990? The employees there did their best I have to say. They know the policy is not great.

Pros: The water park seemed best equipped for the crowds and there was plenty to do to fill a day. That park was tons of fun and the food was excellent. The rides in Islands of adventure are great. There are a few coasters that are top notch, like Hulk and the Velocicoaster. The 3D rides like Amazing Spiderman and others are super fun.

Cons: way too much money for poorly implemented policies, absolutely no crowd control. The extra hour in the park is a complete waste of time and I highly recommend sleeping in. Only 1 major ride is open (VelociCoaster opens early along with a few smaller kid rides) with thousands of extra people trying to get on it. Both days we tried the ride was delayed with no time estimate for its return given. Oh and in the extra hour I’ve never seen more people corralled into one place more than in Hogsmeade.

Going to a theme park 1) on a weekend and 2) at a time when it's hard for any business to find workers, I packed my patience for our family's visit to Universal. However, I was very disappointed by decisions made by park management that led to a LOT of frustrated guests and employees.

A theme park being busy on a beautiful weekend day isn't surprising. But Universal simply didn't have enough people to staff the park in relation to the number of people they allowed in.

Knowing how busy restaurants would be, we used the app to order food in advance (something they are promoting heavily to ease lines). The problem was that there simply weren't enough restaurant employees to handle both the line and the digital orders.

We were among dozens of families who had waited over 90 minutes for food we ordered digitally to avoid wait times. The limited number of workers simply couldn't keep up, leading to frustration for them and for the families with hangry kids (and parents).

To compound the problem, the Universal app doesn't allow guests to cancel orders, meaning you either had to wait it out or eat the $100 instead of your lunch.

This manpower shortage appeared to be a reoccurring problem all over the park. Instead of capping attendance to a level their staff could accommodate during this worker shortage, Universal management clearly decided to open the floodgates so they could maximize revenue. I fear this is a short-sighted decision that may produce ticket sales today, but will surely dissuade people from return visits in the near future. I hope it's a policy they reconsider ASAP.

I was really unhappy with our day at Universal. The park was dirty, the employees were mostly unkind, social distancing was not encouraged or enforced and the park was packed to the brim. This was in March of 2021. It is hard to find somewhere to sit. All of their popular rides require you to enter into a virtual queue early in the morning. Something else our party did not know was that you cannot ride on basically any ride with your personal belongings. For rides like the Hulk, this makes sense to me. But a ride like Men in Black?? It would not have been a big deal EXCEPT my boyfriend had a backpack that does not fit in their free lockers. So we paid $2 for a bigger locker. Basically it felt like we were paying $2 to ride rides at a park we paid $200 to be at already. Mind you, we rode almost every ride in all four Disney parks this same week. Not once was his backpack an issue at Disney. We really do not care for Universal after this and we would all recommend Disney 10x over Universal for a pleasant, clean, FUN experience. Universal was not fun for us at all.

We started planning our family reunion Christmas trip to Orlando in Oct 2021 for a group of 16 as a Christmas present to our children and grandchildren. They were so excited to see Harry Potter World. We paid for basic tickets and decided to wait until arriving to decide which members of our family we needed to purchase the express upgrade for, since we had some small children, seniors and a pregnant mom in our group, and the website said we could purchase the day we arrived. Big mistake!!! The upgrade was unavailable to purchase for our first day and the available express tickets for our second day were priced at over $200/person, which is a lot more expensive than the posted rate on the website and is outrageously expensive for a large family! We expected it to be crowded but we were unprepared for the huge numbers of people we encountered. At a cost of $3000/day for our group, we were unable to get even a tenth of the value of our ticket price. The toddler area had a closed carousel, a water playground that was dangerously slippery, broken interactive elements, and a 70 wait time for a slow moving train ride. Single rider lanes were closed on some rides, or were broken down. We arrived at the park at 8 am and by noon we had only gone on one ride, purchased wands and butter beer for the children and ridden the Hogwarts express to Islands of Adventure. The crowds in Hogsmeade were so intense we had to leave. We witnessed a senior on a scooter suddenly lurch into the crowd, knocking a young woman into the pavement, landing on her knees. The Three Broomsticks restaurant line at 11 am snaked out into the middle of the concourse and was an hour long. We had to wear masks outdoors as we were not able to maintain an appropriate distance from other guests. We had to leave the area due to the extreme congestion. We were able to find a fairly quiet place to eat lunch at the Comic Strip Cafe, but the prices were very expensive and they didn’t allow drink refills. At about 2 o’clock half our group decided to leave the park early due to the intense crowds. At one point our pregnant daughter went to two food kiosks to get a bottle of water and they were both sold out. When she asked for just a cup of ice water, she was charged $3.50! The half of our party who stayed the whole day were only able to ride four rides total. While the overall design of Harry Potter world was beautiful and the Gringotts ride was amazing, the crowd control left a lot to be desired. Universal Studios needs to rethink the way it handles crowds and ticket prices. Today felt like a big rip off!

Ticket cost was $200 per person, there were no fast passes available online, only at the gate, and they wanted a whopping $329 per person additionally for a fast pass. Our three adult party paid close to 600 to get in the gate, and for obvious reasons, we did NOT buy fast passes.
Poor control, overcrowded, unmasked, unsafe conditions. Queue line started in the parking lot! We arrived at 10 am.
Went up from garage parking to go to security check gate, and there were four huge crowds of people waiting to get past security and into City Walk. We spent one hour in wrapping queue lines to get checked through security.
Once in the parks themselves, pathways /roads through parks were filled, jammed with people, confused and uncertain where lines began, as lines for rides collided with lines for drinks and food. Really rough conditions. At least two popular rides were closed. We only had time for 2 rides, we had to bail on the third one, as 2 of the 3 rides had announcements explained that ride admission was limited due to circumstances beyond their control, and wait times were going to be longer than expected. They were already 2-3 hours long. Two lines so long, you had to walk the length of the park to enter the line, once in line, far too many wrap arounds, some crossing through the entry points of other rides, with their own long lines, you couldn't tell where one ride ended and another started. Trying to find, let alone read signs was not possible. Very sad, and far too expensive. We won't return.
