Beautiful!

So glad I did this as a tour and not on my own! It was super soggy so the Wellingtons they provided were perfect (wear thick socks for more comfort). You also get to see more of the country with a guide since you don’t come back the same way as going in. The guides speak English although I feel the two of us who spoke English didn’t get as much background info but that was okay. It took two hours longer than expected because of the ground and our group so expect delays.

The Emerald Lagoon – my boots will never be the same

This is a 10km (6 miles) round trip hike up to the Emerald Lagoon, which is absolutely beautiful. However, the 10km belies the fact that for most of it you are slugging through peak bogs and mud, which makes the 10km seem like 20km. Additionally, the last third is at a 20-25 degree slope. If you do not have water proof high top hiking boots I would not recommend you try this. Several people (including our two guides) had rented Wellingtons, which are better for the mud, but don’t appear to give you the same foot support. Also, I would recommend you bring your own trekking polls. Our tour guides gave each person one pole, which is better than none at all. Fortunately, I had my own pair, which gave me added stability as you try and leap over streams, mud, and peat pools. The lagoon is very beautiful as it is nestled under two mountain peaks and a glacier. Our tour group, Pira Tour, provided a nice picnic lunch up at the lagoon, and our two guides were excellent.

Stunning

Stunning views would highly recommend this activity. The guide and company was friendly and so happy that I went in a group rather than do it on my own. On time for pick up and provided a great lunch. Guide was full of lots of information, I was the only english speaking person but was still looked after and the guide made everyone feel welcome. Would high recommend this even on a cloudy day easy walk no to hard. Would were trekking shoes or something similar.

The guides with this company were great! I didn't want to hike this trip alone, being in a foreign country and not knowing the language, so I'm glad I went with a tour group. The guides were great and the other people in the group were fantastic as well, so welcoming!

Stunning! Don't pay for a tour!
I can't believe how expensive tours for this are- that's crazy! Rent a car for cheap and head there on your own! Lots of beautiful places to stop and take pics along the drive. There is no cost to enter the trail area either. Just park in the lot and follow the cute little blue arrows along the trail - impossible to get lost.
