I booked the kayak trip directly with the Ketchican Kayak Company as it appeared much better than that offered by the cruise company and we were not disappointed. Directions to the office were very simple to follow and the induction comprehensive. There were four couples on our trip two older and two younger but we were split up into two groups each with a guide so the paddling pace was just right. Our guide was excellent and knowledgeable, being close enough so that we could hear her clearly. She even took photos of us which were sent to us immediately. The equipment was all good quality. The snack after the trip was tasty and we bought a couple of tins of the smoked salmon, with were savoured when we got home to the UK. Hopefully when Covid 19 allows lots more visitors will return to Ketchican and spend time on the water with the Ketchican Kayak Company.

Solo
I had the best experience at this place! Probably the best kayaking tour I've ever been on!!! They made sure I was safe, explained everything in detail before heading out, then our adventure began. Almost 3 hours out on the water which is rare to find on some of these other kayaking tours. There is so much to explore & to see. Grayson was very well educated on the environment, plant life, & sea life which we got to see a lot of. I learned more things about Alaska on this little tour than I did on any of my other little excursions I had planned for my trip. The staff is very laid back, friendly, considerate & are happy to just sit back & chat with you even after the tour is over. They provided a nice little lunch after the tour was over & some beverages as well (both hot & cold). You get a real relaxing tour that let's you kind of take your time & it doesn't feel rushed at all. I booked solo though & wasn't part of the cruise ship scene so it may be different if you're in a large group or if there is a cruise ship or more in town. For it being my first time up to Alaska I thoroughly enjoyed myself on this part of the trip. They really helped me relax from the constant rushing I was doing from my previous activities which was really nice. I kayak at home regularly so they trusted me enough to handle myself & let me have a single person kayak + spray skirt. Once they saw my skills in the water I was free to drift off from the group for short periods of time, still in view for the guide & as to not worry him. So if you're a kayaker already & your skills are up to par for their comfort level, you may get a bit more freedom like I did. I cannot recommend these guys enough. Thank you Eric, Grayson, Lindsey, Danielle & most of all Devon for making this all happen & for giving me one of the best experiences up in Alaska. Will definitely be booking with you guys again in the future on my next trip up there! Cheers to all of you!

First time kayaker. So amazing! I was nervous to go out on the ocean but the water was so much calmer there then downtown and the kayak was really stable. The gear provided kept me warm and comfortable. Watching the seals was fun and we saw whales spouting and their tales as they dove. So magical!

Amazing trip out on the water during the low tides today!!! They made sure we got to see all the wildlife possible. Very knowledgeable about the sea creatures and surround areas. Best part was the guide extending the tour to see the whales breach from the water and bubble feeding!!!!! Would 10/10 recommend these guys for your next adventure here in Ketchikan, Ak.

We really enjoyed this tour! Transfer from the cruise dock was easy, with the kayaking site a beautiful brief van ride away. David and Atreyu were our guides and did an excellent job of teaching our group the equipment, keeping us together, and providing interesting commentary on the area and wildlife. Our weather could not have been better - low 70’s and sunny, in usually rainy Ketchikan!! We spent a couple of hours tooling around a gorgeous quiet passageway with very little boat traffic and lots of eagles. We saw a few stellar sea lions but no whales, though they apparently can be seen in that area. The equipment was all in excellent condition and I felt very safe the whole time. We especially enjoyed talking to David and hearing about his travels, which brought him to Alaska from Southern California. A great excursion!!

I took my trailer up the Inside Passage on the Alaska ferries in June 2019, and one highlight was the kayak tour I took one morning, around the bay north of Ketchikan. Once I got used to steering (which seemed backwards to me!), I thoroughly enjoyed poking around the shoreline and local islands with our guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and surprisingly enthusiastic, given that he does it a lot. He described the forest and marine environment, and answered all our questions; we saw eagles' nests, eagles, and spent some time hanging out with and photographing a few curious seals (at a respectful distance). Good exercise, but not too strenuous (I'm 70), and some delicious smoked salmon to finish things off.

We had a great half day kayak trip around Clover Pass with Ketchikan Kayak. We were picked up at our hotel and driven to the launch site. There were a total of nine of us so they split us into two groups, making for a small group. We paddled to several nearby islands and at each spot examined the marine and bird life. We were fortunate that it was low tide, so we had the opportunity to view much of the marine life in the tidal zone. Eric, our group leader, was very knowledgeable and pointed our many interesting features and explained how they fit into the ecosystem. Not only was it very enjoyable being out on the water, but I also learned a lot. The area around Clover Pass is beautiful and dotted with numerous small islands for exploring. After the paddle we went back to the shop for a light snack and were driven back to the hotel. Everyone at Ketchikan Kayak was extremely nice and helpful and it was clear that their main concern was that we were safe and we enjoyed our trip. I highly recommend this trip for both the novice and experienced paddler.

Devon took us out for an amazing kayaking experience! He was so knowledgeable and told us all about the local animals and sea creatures. We were lucky to see so many sea lions!

He provided everything we needed - rain gear, life vests, dry bags for phones, even hot chocolate at the end. It is apparent that they will tailor the experience to what you are looking for. Would highly recommend this company!

To say this was the most memorable experience of my life would be an understatement. From the very beginning with the guides helping us choose the correct gear for the trip to actually training us on how to grow was exceptionally professional. Once we were on our trip it was clear that our guides knew exactly what to do and when to do it. We were not oversold on our expectations but I must say that this trip went so beyond what I ever expected. With the talents and experience of the guides we witnessed a performance of a whale that not even the guides have experienced in all of their years on the water. We may have been just extremely lucky or the guides knew exactly what they were doing. In either case you must take a trip with this company. Devin, the owner, and David, our guide, are nothing short of perfection!

Devon was amazing he took us out and showed us where to find the creatures on the rocks and took some out and let the kids touch. He explained interesting facts about each creature he showed us. It was a beautiful day and the kids enjoyed it a lot. Highly recommend this tour for a family outing! A really great way to really be immersed in nature and you can’t beat the photos you’ll have after!
