Arenal Volcano and Tabacón Hot Springs Day Trip from San Jose
US$156.00
Overview

Arenal Volcano is one of Costa Rica’s most active volcanoes, set against a rainforest backdrop. This tour combines two of the highlights of Arenal Volcano National Park: a scenic trek to the base of the Arenal Volcano, followed by a relaxing soak in the Tabacón hot springs. Everything’s taken care of with hotel pickup, lunch, and dinner included.

What to Expect

Your tour begins with morning pickup from your central San Jose hotel. Traveling aboard an air-conditioned minivan, set out the around 3-hour journey to La Fortuna.

Your first stop is in Sarchí, a town known for traditional handicrafts. Browse the artisan workshops and perhaps pick up souvenirs.

On arrival in La Fortuna, head to a restaurant for lunch and tuck into delicious Costa Rican cuisine.

After lunch, continue into Arenal Volcano National Park and take an easy hike around the volcano’s base. Follow the Mirador Arenal trail, trekking through lava fields.

Spend the rest of the afternoon at Tabacón hot springs, relaxing in naturally heated thermal pools and lagoons that range in temperature from 77 to 102°F (25 to 38°C).

After free time at the resort, enjoy a buffet dinner as the sun sets over the park.

Your tour ends with drop-off at your San Jose hotel.

Completely worth it

They give you a decent overview of what to expect, but here's my take on it. As suggested, eat breakfast or a light snack before they pick you up in the morning. The drive is extremely long, so bring a reading/puzzle book. The first stop...More

Not a real hike, but good otherwise.

Our trip started with a long drive to Sarchi for a quick lesson on the local craftsmanship and to buy souvenirs. The souvenir shop was well stocked with standard fare, as well as artisanal items specific to the area. Lunch was also very good, serving...More

Excellent trip

This was a well-organized and interesting trip. We stopped at a store in the town where they paint up the traditional decorated oxcarts, then on to lunch where they had baby caymans and lots and lots of birds. Then we proceded to the volcano base...More

Sandals would be fine. You'll be doing a 10-minute hike but beyond that you won't be walking much
