Very nice little tour and learning experience about cacao and chocolate. I recommend trying to time it so you're in a smaller group--we basically got a private tour and it was amazing. We got to ask as many questions as we liked, got to look around freely, try as many things as we wanted and move at our pace. The staff was extremely knowledgable, friendly and funny, and versatile with their language! Definitely recommend.

Shout out to Elio, our tour guide. My husband, my 25 year old son & I, all had a great tour with him. We learned the history of chocolate and saw cocoa trees with pods. We then tasted cocoa beans “fruit” from a freshly opened pod, and Elio took us through every step of making chocolate, right in front of us. We helped make the chocolate & tasted the beans/cocoa at each step of the process. So cool! We then sipped on chocolate made from nibs that we crunched and melted. We had many flavors we could combine to our chocolate. Lastly, we ate warm, melted chocolate, 70% cocoa (with the cocoa butter). SO good. We chose what we wanted to add to each spoonful. This is where the Chocolate was unlimited! It was delicious! We had fun choosing different things to add. Almonds, peanuts, rum, tequila, marshmallows… so many more choices too. If you’re a true chocolate fan, you’ll love this tour!

Very informative and interactive tour! “El Chapo Guapo” was so funny and a great guide, he led us through the end-to-end chocolate making process and definitely made the experience memorable. The focus on only chocolate is probably superior to other tours in the area who try to cram in chocolate, coffee, and more into one. Well worth a stop off the beaten path!

Although the reviews say that the owner is the guide you want, we thought Keilor was awesome! Having said that, we like our tours with a little spunk/sass and he brought it in spades. He got our 16 year old to dance in front of group while providing us an incredible amount of information about the history of chocolate in Costa Rica and how it is made. And who doesn't love a tour that ends with (essentially) all you can eat chocolate? Don't miss this tour, even in the rain it is a great experience!

A fun diversion for all ages with a bit of education on the growing, harvesting, history, and origins of chocolate and cacao. Audience participation grinding beans, making chocolate, and best of all, eating chocolate. A most engaging master of ceremonies. Appropriate attention to hygiene and social distancing in the time of Covid.

Booked this tour for my husband and myself very last minute. Very speedy email responses when inquiring about the tour. We were staying at Casa Luna, so the plantation was a 5 minute walk from our hotel. We went for the 3 pm tour, which was the busiest with about 20 other attendees. Before the tour started, there was a seating area with a bird feeder that had lots of beautiful birds, including parakeets - so take a good camera. Our tour guide was El Chapo Guapo, one of the funniest people we have ever met. The tour was very informative, we learnt a lot about the history of chocolate, some information about the dark side of chocolate and by walking around the plantation we got to see the chocolate making process from start to finish. Chapo made the tour very engaging by involving participants in the chocolate making process, but in such fun ways - a bit of dancing, competition and discussion. Obviously the highlight is once the chocolate is made, you get to try it. This involves lots of delicious melted chocolate and multiple toppings, yummy! There is a gift shop at with lots of home made chocolate and chocolate products from around Costa Rica which are decently priced, making for excellent souvenirs.

We really enjoyed the Rain Forrest Chocolate Tour with Tatiana. The tour lasted approximately 2h. She explained the historical origin of the cacao production as well as the healthy ingredients of cacao.

After showing us the different stages of native production, we really appreciated the extensive tasting, starting from the rare bean until the final chocolate.

We definitely recommend the tour if you want to know how the choclate is produced and what a good quality chocolate is supposed to be.

p.s. You can taste as much chocolate with different types of complements (e.g. vanilla, cumin, cinnamon, orange, almond, coconut) as you want during the tour!!

We had a fantastic time on the Rainforest Chocolate Tour! Our tour guide "El Chapo Guapo" really made it a special experience. We were his fourth tour that day, but he never missed an opportunity to inform us on the history of chocolate in Costa Rica in a fun and engaging way. He fostered an inclusive environment, speaking clearly and slowly for the foreign language speakers in our group to understand and enjoy the tour. We laughed, danced, and ate all the chocolate we could handle. We also scored some local chocolates in their gift shop and got great recommendations for local places to eat. Highly recommend if you visit the La Fortuna/Arenal area!

It was wonderful! We had “Chapo Guapo” as our tour guide and he was so funny and engaging. Well worth the $. We went for a hike that morning and then did the afternoon tour. It was a perfect combination as we were able to sit for the second half of the tour and watch how chocolate is made. We have 4 kiddos ranging from 8-19 (3 teens and our 8 yr old) everyone loved it.

Wow! What a fantastic few hours. With all the active, rough-and-tumble activities there are to do around La Fortuna, this was the perfect way to spend a morning or afternoon if you want something a little less physical. Our guide was funny, approachable, informative and interesting. We learnt a full history of chocolate, some harsh realities about the modern industry and fair trade, and a hands-on experience of making chocolate. The best part however was all the tasting. It’s truly unlimited at every point, all the way from the fruit to the liquid chocolate at the end. This was unexpectedly my favourite afternoon in La Fortuna, and I couldn’t recommend it more!
