The BEST experience!
Apr 2021 • Couples
We booked our adventure with Romel. It was the best experience and full of non stop adrenaline rush! The water level was higher then normal which gave us a pretty awesome experience! We enjoyed it so much we booked the same excursion 2 days later with Romel.. Romel was very fun, informative and made us feel safe throughout the entire day especially while in the water. I would highly recommend for anyone up for a wonderful memorable adrenaline rushing experience to book with Jacamar tours and request Romel! Pura Vida!!!

Fabulous adventure!!!
Dec 2019
We had an absolutely wonderful time on the river with our guides from Jacamar. The trip was gorgeous and super fun -- thrilling, but we always felt totally safe. The guides were knowledgeable and warm and fun. They clearly love this region and are happy to share it with others. We saw lots of wildlife on the trip -- toucans, sloths, giant green iguana (which had turned orange for mating season) -- and the river was super fun. Special thanks to our guide Alejandro!! He was fantastic!!! If you have a chance to do this tour, don't hesitate!!!

Thought we were going to drown
Dec 2019
I am sorry to have to write this review because the guides were nice. It is ironic that I ended up getting injured on this trip when the raft flipped over. We originally were going to book the trip on the Sarapiqui River but because it is Class 3 and 4 we decided to go on the Balsa, I did not want to get injured while in Costa Rica. This was suppose to be a class 2 & 3 River, I think it was a class 4. If we had gone on the Sarapiquin River I would have accepted the possibility of the raft flipping over. But, this should not have happen on a River rated 2 & 3. We have rafted in California, Oregon and Alaska, so are not novice. It was a very scary experience, my husband & I both thought we were going to drown. I when in the water first and could not get up to get air. My husband got trapped under the raft. There were actually 2 guides on the raft, which makes it even harder to understand why the raft went over. Instead of getting to spend the day in the hot springs I was in the Doctor’s office and then in bed with ice on my knee. I was in so much pain we had to fly home early and did not get to go to Tortugeuro for the last part of our trip. I know rafting carries some risk but since I specifically chose a river that is said to be rated 2 & 3 this should not have happened.

Amazing personalized adventure
Nov 2019 • Family
We have to admit that we were a little bit worried when the tour company contacted us the day before our rafting adventure to tell us that we were going to be rescheduled to the Sarapiqi River across on the Caribbean side because the river near our location was too high from the rains. Yes it was further than we wanted to go but it was a beautiful drive and throughout the whole rafting expedition our guides took care of us and made sure it was safe and personalized for our abilities. The conservation area around the river was amazing. Bonus the Costa Rican lunch they served us at their organic farm at the end of the tour was probably one of the best meals I had in Costa Rica. I can’t recommend the Jacamar Naturalist tours enough!

Class 11 and 111 Rafting
Really enjoyed the Jacamar white water rafting on Balsa river with Jonny and Frank. I have been rafting before but particularly enjoyed this trip due to the small group, stopping for pineapple and mango along the way and the opportunity to view wildlife along the way -we saw 3 sloths. Jacamar provide towels which is a bonus and the lunch stop was at a beautiful setting in a private restaurant on a beautiful fruit surrounded by trees and flowers. Everything felt safe and organised. Changing facilities are provided and bags left locked in the minibus.
The exact length of the trip depends on the water levels - we were about an hour and three quarters on the water.

Most Amazing Experience
This white water river rafting trip is absolutely awesome...especially for first-timers. Our driver was Jesus and our guides were Frank and Johnny. Definitely request all three of them. They will make your adventure and experience awesome!!! During the raft, we had an opportunity to stop along the way to enjoy some fresh pineapple and mango. We got to speak with some of the locals fishing in the river. We saw some incredible birds and a sloth.

I highly recommend this trip!!! It’s something you will always remember. Oh...an Frank will take photos along the way, which is a fabulous way to really visualize your experience.

White Water Rafting was AMAZING
Frank, who explained everything and also was our paparazzi taking pictures and Dionis, who was our captain on the raft who was super fun and experienced and Mario and Carlos were absolutely amazing. They made our adventure fun and enjoyable. We felt safe and the rafting down the river was just super fun! We had such a great time. We also got to see a few monkeys along the way. I swam in the river which was super refreshing and not cold at all.

I would recommend NOT to have set dinner plans later on because this adventure does take about 8 hours from beginning to end AND They serve you a very delicious lunch at 3pm, so if you do plan on having dinner, schedule it for later on.

I highly recommend these guys! They were fun and made this adventure very memorable.

A terrific day of white water rafting with Jacamar Tours!
Dec 2018 • Family
I took my 10 and 15 year old daughters with me on a Class II/III white water rafting tour with Jacamar tours and we had a blast! They picked us up from our hotel (The Springs Resort in Arenal; see my separate review), and along the way we picked up additional guests who had signed up for our tour. Our tour leader, Rocky, was a lot of fun and kept us entertained during the 60 minute ride to the entrance point of the river. When we arrived at the river, we were split into groups (my raft had the 3 of us plus two additional guests) and assigned a raft guide, who outfitted us with equipment (make sure you bring/wear watershoes or sneakers) and then taught us some basic strokes & commands before we climbed into the raft. Our guide, Moses, was wonderful. He expertly helped us to navigate the river, and was particularly helpful during the most challenging rapids. He was funny, kind, informative, enthusiastic and kept us entertained the entire time. Half-way down the river, all of the rafts (there were four or five in total) pulled over to the river bank, and we exited the rafts to take a break, stretch our legs, and snack on tasty fresh fruit provided by our guides (watermelon and pineapple). While we were waiting, a friendly cow meandered out of the forest to join us by the river (in the hopes of getting a fruit snack from us), which added to our entertainment. We then climbed back into the raft to continue down the river. The rapids were challenging - but perfectly suitable for beginners or youngsters. I recommend this tour. Thank you Moses, Rocky and the rest of the Jacamar gang for a wonderful day!
