Could have been so much better!
Our guide Abby took us to the designated places and provided the food. BUT it could have been so much better. Beyond informing us of what we were eating there was not much else. She answered our questions about the dishes, but why not give us a preliminary detailed chat about what we eating, why it was special, why it was served in the local area we were in etc. I felt like our asking numerous questions was like getting water from a stone. I came away very full of food but greatly lacking in satisfaction!

    Awesome Tour and Eats!
Highly recommend, especially/even when the weather might not be the best. Great use of a drizzly day. Our guide Lily was awesome and even provided us with some fabulous bar/lounge recommendations for us to go to that weekend!

    Go hungry!
Sisley is a knowledgeable guide, bringing the local area and the food to life. With Chinese cuisine there is always a fascinating cultural tale underpinning it. Just make sure you go hungry as those xiao long bao and jiaozi can quickly fill up even the largest of stomachs!

    excellent must do food tour
Nine stops and all delicious. Lily was wonderful - friendly, knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. A great way to cap a day of touring.

    Very Good
Elaine was great. It felt like we visited truly local places. The local atmosphere was ALMOST as much fun as the food.

    Highlight of our shanghai visit
We went as a couple and were in a tour of a group of 5. Our guide was Elaine, her English was fantastic and she was very friendly and funny. We ate a lot including crab shell pastry, dumplings and bullfrog! Everything was delicious and beautifully explained. Elaine also told us loads about shanghai, answered our questions and took loads of time to chat. I was nervous about this tour as it seemed quite expensive but it turned out to be worth every penny! A definite must do if you want to try everything

Had a great time on the tour! Our tour guide Elaine was so knowledgable and took us on a food adventure around Shanghai. We ate plenty of food and by the end of it couldn't fit any more into our belly. The mango at the end was delicious! We felt that this tour was authentic and educational. Most of all, it was fun! Please ask for Elaine when you go on this tour. Definitely recommend this experience!

My husband and I were just in Shanghai for a couple days and we were very underwhelmed with the food we were able to find on our own. We booked the food tour late, the morning of the day we took it. They were very accommodating arranging a tour that day for just the two of us.
Our guide Stella was fantastic. Her English was perfect and she was interesting to talk to.
The best part, though was the food. Everything was delicious. It was a mix of street food, sit down restaurants, shanghai specialties, Muslim, and even schnitzel. We ate at places we never would have gone in on our own and if we had, we wouldn’t have been able to order the specialty.
I’m stuffed and happy.

Sisly was our guide and she took us on an exploration of Shanghai and its street food. We ventured from the expected (Tsing Tao beer) to Shanghai style schnitzel, Muslim bread, fried dumplings from a Michelin rated restaurant, rice wine from a clay pot, bull frog (yes bull frog from a famous 24 hour restaurant - it tasted like fish), noodles and to finish it off - mango pudding. During the course of our walk we explored areas of Shanghai I never expected to exist. This was well worth it.

This was my first food tour and was disappointed. Our tour guide was very nice, and tried really hard to please us. she even even provided baby wipes and water. But It was very expensive for what we got. We did this toward the end of our stay in Shanghai and went to far better restaurants and ate better quality food on our own. Most of the restaurants we went to were very packed and we had to wait awhile to sit down. Tour guide was nice but not worth the money at all.

We did our tour with Lily and it was one of the highlights of our trip to China. Lily was very informative and answered all our questions. It was great to see some of the more hidden areas of Shanghai and eat like the locals. All the food was delicious even the Bullfrog stir fry! Make sure to come to the tour hungry as there is quite a lot of food! A must do in Shanghai imo.

Had an enjoyable food/walking tour with Lily, who was an excellent guide and spoke English very well. She had nice anecdotes to tell, and was a very charming host.
We covered 9 different stations, some for a sit-down meal, others for a bite in the street.
The menu remained somewhat one-sided, though, as the main focus was on meat or noodles/rice/dumplings/ pudding. I sorely missed any vegetables!!!

NB Coming to People's Square with line 2, there was nowhere a sign for exit 14 (our meeting point) to be found underground. The metro people were not helpful at all, and did not speak English, so I kept running around for a long time. Could you make the meeting point a bit more clear for people who arrive by metro?

LIly was our tour guide, her English is excellent and we learnt lots about the history and traditions of eating within Shanghai. A recommendation is that you don't want to eat much before going as after 10 stops you will be really full. We really had a great time and would thoroughly recommend doing this.

Fantastic back street food tour in Shanghai! Lily is an excellent guide and we felt it was very good value for money. All of the food was delicious and different, although the frogs were a little out of our comfort zone!
Would definitely recommend to friends or family going to Shanghai

Lily was a star, food was absolutely great - couldn't call our favourite dish at the end of the tour .... and yes we did retrace our route two nights later (and the food was still brilliant). Go forth hungry and enjoy!!

Two Aussies and two Canadians joined Elaine for an almost mystical tour through a labyrinth of front streets and back streets to taste truly delicious authentic Shabghai food. Elaine set the historical and cultural stage for us before each stop which allowed us to more fully appreciate and enjoy the tasting experiences. We would most highly recommend this tour on a visit to Shanghai and if Elaine is your guide, you will be in total food heaven with this enthusiastically delightful young woman.
