Visit: Mina Du Veloso, Rua Levindo Inacio Andre 400, Ouro Preto, State of Minas Gerais 35400-000 Brazil
Mina Du Veloso is a fine example of African genius in the works in search of gold in the old Vila Rica in the 18th century, today Ouro Preto - MG. In it we can identify and experience various technical and cultural aspects of gold exploration in the colonial period. They are more than 400 meters of galleries interconnecting chambers (salons) with pillars of support of the ceiling. Throughout the path there are marks of works done by African miners hijacked and brought to Brazil forcibly for the slave labor regime. The visit to the Mine is made by an experienced guide who shows and explains every detail of the place, extolling the customs and the daily life of these African workers in the mining areas .. Also add the particularities of the society and economy that were in force in Ouro Preto, old Vila Rica, as well as the geology of the region. The guide also highlights the reflections of this period of Brazilian history in the present day to, from there, provoke reflections on themes such as race, ethnicity, work, exploration and empowerment. The tour inside the Du Veloso Mine is clearly a sensorial immersion in the history and culture of the African worker, with the opportunity to re-state what is told about our ancestors. The Mina also has lectures with emphasis on pedagogical tourism, where we speak transversally of the themes related to the gold cycle before the visitation. Bilingual guide is available.
