Highlights
  • See the newly expanded “Panamax” locks at work from the Agua Clara Visitor Center
  • Avoid getting lost in the jungle of San Lorenzo National Park
  • Increase your chances of seeing the wildlife of Monkey Island with a guide
What to expect
After hotel pickup in an air-conditioned minibus, your tour begins with a boat ride on the waterways adjacent to the canal: you see jungle wildlife, navigate Gatun Lake, and watch massive ships pass through the canal. Visit the famous Monkey Island, home to capuchins, howlers, and tamarins, before traveling to the Caribbean side of Panama and the Agua Clara Visitor Center. Here, watch ships pass through the newly expanded “Panamax” locks from a canal-side observation deck and learn about the history, operation, and importance of the Panama Canal. Next, visit San Lorenzo National Park to see rainforest flora and fauna followed by a picnic lunch and a tour of Fort San Lorenzo, a 400-year-old Spanish fort on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean. One of the most historically important spots in Panama, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the fort repelled pirates as part of the defensive system that protected the transatlantic trade of the Spanish Crown. Your full-day tour ends with a return to your hotel in Panama City.

The tour guide, John, was amazing. He was full of interesting information and delivered it in a relatable yet humorous fashion from the beginning of the tour until the very end. At the beginning of the tour he asked that we provide him with requests/input regarding what we wanted to see and throughout the tour did his best to fulfill our requests. The lunch he and his companion prepared was very good and included fresh avocado and pineapple. John was really able to improvise when met with unexpected obstacles. Due to traffic and construction we ran a bit behind schedule, but John gave us the option to get out and walk. During the short walk to the fort we were able to see a family of howler monkeys and much more wildlife than we would have if we had stayed in the bus. This trip was worth every single penny and I wish we had done it sooner on in our trip because John w offered restaurant and night life recommendations at the end of the tour. Highly recommend.

10/10 Guide picked us up at our hotel. Guide was super friendly, spoke perfect English, and took us to the Spanish fortifications on the Pacific coast (UNESCO sites if I recall correctly), Panama Canal (which was dope if you like infrastructure), and even drove us through the former housing for the Panama Canal Authority soldiers/family when the PCZ was US territory. Driver/guide also stopped to show us howler monkeys. I forgot what we paid tbh but it was well worth it. 10/10. This review is from my experience in 2018 pre-covid fyi...but if you're reading it in 2022 or beyond, the company has a great track record and I'd recommend them.

We booked this tour in hopes of getting good footage for our YouTube channel and it exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend this tour! The logistics and communications of the tour were perfect. John did an outstanding job of sharing his knowledge and perspectives on everything we saw. It truly felt like we went to day school to learn the history, politics, environment and future of this beautiful country. The Agua Clara Locks, the boat ride in the canal to the monkeys and Fort San Lorenzo were all amazing. There was also plenty of time for us to video and take photos for our social media channels. We highly recommend Panama Day Trips! Thank you John for a great day. The Retirement Travelers

This was an extremely confusing tour. First, I was called the night before at 9pm and told my ticket was canceled because I was traveling alone. I was then told that they would offer me a condensed tour starting at 1pm, but the price would remain the same. Which is another issue, I was charged $165 instead of the advertised $135. I ended up taking the short cruise since it was my last weekend in Panama. The tour consisted of a boat ride in Gatun Lake , then a half hour at and around Monkey Island then a return to the dock. A total of 2 1/2 hours. I was quite dissappointed and will try to get half my money back.

Hello Pete, It's very unfortunate that you had those issues, but I can guarantee you that you didn't take or book the tour with our company. We have single passengers almost every day on our tours, and we would never cancel because of that. Its impossible for us to charge anyone $165 for our tour because we have an automated booking system and the prices are fixed. Also, we don't do monkey island tours at 1pm, and we have never had a tour that only lasted 2 and a half hours. Please read your voucher and see that the name of the company is someone else. If you still think it is us please call us at +507 6411-3075 so we can help you figure it out.

We were a party of 4 who stopped off in Panama specifically for this tour with the added cost of accommodation etc. Was it worth it? Absolutely. The owner Jerin was our very knowledgeable driver / guide. The 6 am start enabled us to beat the cruise ship crowds and to see the animals whilst they were most active in the cool of the morning. We were in the jungle, so yes, the roads were bumpy at times - but not at all a problem. The picnic lunch was delightful - local produce, fresh and very tasty. Cynthia (in the office) was fantastic and arranged airport pickups and drop offs (with Yoel who mastered the awful traffic with ease). An absolutely recommended tour.

Great experience! Our guide, Paola, was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the canal, the rainforest and Panama in general. The breakfast was very tasty (contrary to my jaded expectations!). The boat driver had the eyes of an eagle, spotting monkeys and crocodiles the rest of us would never have seen. Added bonus, we stopped at a local fruit shop on the way back to the city and got some delicious fruit and AMAZING fresh guacamole.

Outstanding. The tour delivered for me. We went the length of the Panama Canal, visiting the locks and seeing container ships pass through. The boat portion of our tour took us on the Gatun lake segment of the Canal and spend time at "Monkey Island," where we saw many monkees including some who climbed on our boat. Best of all was our tour guide, Enrique. He was energetic, fun and had a great depth of knowledge about the Canal, history and the ecology of the area. Thanks for an amazing day!

Giving this a 3 because they didn"t deliver on 2 promised sites out of 5. Yes we have to consider the closing of some sites because of the corona virus but this company should change their pricing and not expect the customers to absorb this lesser day trip for the same price. I highly recommend not to take any outings until this corona virus situation has been rectified. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY for lesser service.

Before the tour I stopped everybody and explained that things were closing left and right and we would do everything possible to make the tour happen. I clearly explained that if anybody did not get a full experience to please let us know so we can refund all or part of cost of the tour. We did our best, however we couldn't go to San Lorenzo because of its closure, so instead we went even further to Portobello to at least show something. We were able to do the boat ride on the canal and the Agua Clara locks. Even with all that, all you had to do was say your weren't happy and the money would have been refunded. I made that very clear before the tour. Instead you want to get online and make it sound like we are scamming people. The day before your tour, everything was open. During your tour, things started shutting down, MID TOUR! The day after your tour we shut down all of our tours. We are no longer running tours until this passes. I apologize that we ruined your tour, I just wish you would have said something to us before bashing us online.

The tour was fantastic and Enrique was excellent! This is a great way to see the canal, the new locks, as well as many different animals. Enrique did a great job of explaining the history of Panama and keeping everyone engaged throughout the day. I highly recommend this tour!
