Highlights
Visit the indigenous village of Emberá Drua with a guide
Travel with ease from Panama City to Chagres National Park
Cultural presentation, dance performance, and lunch included
Minibus transport includes pickup from selected hotels
What to expect
Meet your guide in the lobby of your Panama City hotel. Climb aboard an air-conditioned minibus and meet your small tour group, limited to 15 people or fewer.  Arrive on the banks of Lake Alajuela, meeting some members of the Emberá tribe at Puerto Corotu. Board a motorized dugout canoe and, assisted by a motor, head up the Chagres River to the village of Embera Drua. On the way, visit an impressive waterfall deep in the park.  Native Emberá tribe members greet you upon arrival with a traditional dance and a presentation about their culture, history, and modern way of life in the forest. Walk around and explore the village at your leisure, chat with the locals, and take photos.  Eat a lunch of fresh fruit, plantains, and fried fish, then receive temporary traditional tattoos if you like or shop for handicrafts.  Step back into the canoe and return to Panama City the way you came. Your tour concludes with drop-off back at your Panama City hotel.

Great tour!
Feb 2020 • Couples
Our visit to Embera Drua was fantastic. Our guide, Leo, was friendly and knowledgeable, it was a beautiful trip to the village in a canoe, very interesting to learn about the Embera culture and buy some souvenirs, and to swim in the crystal clear river. Knowing that these tours are the sole source of income for the village also let me worry less about it being exploitative. I would highly recommend this tour!

Enjoyable Embera Village Trip!!
Booked at the last minute with this company again. When I called, Cynthia recognized my voice! She was kind enough to make arrangements to get us worked in and called me right back. She also checked on us in the evening to make sure that everything went well. John was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of good information. Made sure that vegetarian food was available and the plantains were cooked separately from the fish!! He also got us an extra pineapple and Papaya to take them back to our Hotel room!!Kudos to John and the entire team!!!

Embera Village experience
Nov 2019
Embera Village Tour was a second tour we took with Panama Day Trips. John, our guide, did an excellent job in making the tour memorable. He shared a lot of information and the canoe ride from the village in pouring rain was fun and adventurous. Enjoyed learning the Embera culture and dancing with the natives. Cynthia of Panama Day Trips was a true friend and took care of us even working on her holiday.

WOW!!!! Unbelievable Experience!
Feb 2019
There are no words to describe how wonderful this experience was. We visited the Embera Drua Village and were humbled by the hospitality of the natives. Mateo gives a thorough overview of the culture of the Embera people, how they make their goods and the jobs of both the men and women of the village. After a delicious lunch of fish and patacones, we were entertained by the natives who played on drums, turtle shells and flute like handmade instruments. The native women performed several dances and then the natives invited us to dance with them. Afterwards, we were able to walked around the small village and got to see the school and housing for the teachers. I even got my first tattoo (a henna type of dye). This is a truly unbelievably eye-opening experience, not to be missed. Again, Panama Day Trips was the perfect choice for this experience. Jerin is very knowledgeable and you can tell he has a true love for his work. He is so intuned with making sure you have a great experience that he took us further up the river so that we would have a more intimate experience.

Travel to the Embera village by dugout canoe, have an introduction to the Embera culture and traditions and enjoy a snac
Dec 2018
Having been shaken around in a coach along rough tracks to find the dugout canoes, our adventure started. Two Embera guided about 12 of us in single file onto seats in the canoe. The 15 minute trip up the river, powered by an outboard engine, was fascinating and atmospheric. The only way for the Embera to reach civilisation is on these canoes. We were welcomed into the village and the chief told us about their life through our interpreter. His young wife showed us how they made their crafts. We all joined in a tribal dance. We ate beautiful cooked fish in plant leaves, enthusiastically bought craft objects, and then the whole village turned out to see us off on the canoes. The only distraction was the ‘next’ tourist group arriving before we left. We felt as if we had been on a genuine adventure.

Great tour, great tour guides
Jul 2018 • Solo
Jerin and William are very nice people and great guides. They know a lot and they gave us a lot of information. The pick up was on time and the ride was smooth. Take comfortable hike shoes if you’re going to the waterfall because it’s slippery, you’ll need to walk/hike a little before you get there. The only thing I would suggest is to slow the pace a little, I felt that we were in a hurry the whole time. Thank you Cynthia for giving me the opportunity to take the tour although our plans changed at the last minute.

Enrique was the best!!!
We took this tour not knowing what to expect. We are so glad we did. We went Fri June 22 and Enrique was our guide. He was excellent!!! He was funny, informational, and as interested in us as we were in what he had to say. He taught us not only about the rain forest and the indigenous village, but he taught us about Panama and its people and culture as well. He shared history, customs, and background about everything we did and saw. Enrique was also welcoming to all of our questions as well. It was hands down the best tour I have ever taken in my life, foreign or domestic. It really was the highlight of our trip to Panama and it is something we will be forever thankful that we experienced. Top rate all the way around. Thank you
