once in a lifetime old world adventure experience
Jul 2021
what a charming, old world experience! tickets are not cheap but the experience is worth it. our services were impeccable and there were gifts of backpacks upon our arrival. it was lovely to have cocktails and music on such a beautiful day. we loved the bar car and hardly anyone was on the train. we had the bar car to ourselves and the kids took lots of photos from the back of the train. wonderful family experience that i highly recommend!!

Excellent Experience! Worth the price for the comfort and care!
Jun 2021
Hiram Bingham Luxury Train to Machu Picchu is worth it for the discerning traveler who doesn't want to "rough it" when traveling. For me, it is annoying, but understandably part of the process, when having to deal with the logistics of translations, schedules, the unknowns of having to get from one place to another in a foreign country, where the transportation will drop you away from your hotel, etc... Hiram Bingham Luxury Train to Machu Picchu takes care of all that headache and places you at complete ease on your way to see one of the most amazing sites our planet has to offer, Machu Picchu. We took a car service (from Happy Gringo Tours, $13 USD for 35min drive) from JW Marriott Cusco to Poroy Train Station. Hiram Bingham Luxury Train to Machu Picchu operates in specific times, so once we arrived, we were greeted immediately by their Concierge, checked in, welcomed to sit, offered drinks, and then they had a morning Peruvian dance presentation for us before we boarded the special train. The decor is wonderful, decorated in old world luxury (think Rose's level on the Titanic), you are seated in tables of 2 or 4 next to large windows, soothing music played as you are offered more refreshments, then series of foods.. the views are so beautiful and it really is an experience to view Peru with such comfort and care. We took the Vistadome going back and it was like night and day in experience. I couldn't even imagine having to deal with the less expensive cabins. It's not that I'm a snob, but people have different travel styles and needs. For those that can afford it, Hiram Bingham Luxury Train to Machu Picchu is worth it, especially when you know you'll only be there only once.

A highlight of my trip to Machu Picchu.
Nov 2019
Six of us took this train from the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu and then back to Cuzco. Both directions we had the most wonderful food and on the return trip live music and dancing in the bar car. We laughed so much and the trip seemed like it was just starting when we arrived. We wanted it to go on. I can not wait to take more friends on this journey.

Special occasion
The service, the entertainment - all were wonderful. Unfortunately the food was pretty ordinary, not to mention completely polarising. I’m generally not a fussy eater but I do not enjoy fish. The only other option for a main course was rabbit. I found the menu wound only suit the most adventurous of eaters with no safe options. The bread basket was good.

Wonderful experience
Don’t get me wrong, for a train this is most definitely five stars, but if I’m rating and judging it in the realm of luxury it is just very good versus excellent. The whole experience is wonderful, champagne greeting in the VIP lounge only for train guests. Wonderful original car decor on the inside. As I understand it this used to be the original Oriental express and the LVMH company purchased it and turned it into this current service. White tablecloth, silverware, and glassware all set up for your arrival. I will comment that there is not much space to leave backpacks for day travellers as majority of people who are on this train are. We took it from Machu Picchu back to Cuzco and looked up the price to be $535 for our dates. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in a part of the world that you’ll probably never return to, but still if we’re looking at value per dollar this is not worth that kind of money. Four course meal was Excellent for a train but just good otherwise. Service was quite good and attentive and no problem with English. Bathroom was lacking very much. Bar cart was fun, but with the slightly bumpy ride some people did drop and break their glasses, bartenders are very well trained but also on one occasion empty glasses were dropped. Had to shield myself from people almost falling over on me, and thought several times they were going to drop wine on me. If it’s in your budget definitely do it. I was pleased but not 535$ one way pleased. FYI, 3 hour ride Vs the 1.5hr fast train option.

Five Star Service
I wasn’t sure if I was making the right decision paying almost $1,100 USD for a day trip to Machu Picchu, but between the amazing service I received and seeing how many people were packed onto the Peru Rail trains, I decided it was the right decision. A long, but fabulous one day experience. I can’t remember everyone’s names, but special thanks to Russell and Javier, among many others.

Expensive and loud Train Ride
Jun 2019
I always wanted to see Machu Picchu and I had choosen the train to have a train ride with stile. The organisation was good and food as well. I was surprised that entertainment was done with loud rock music. The band was good - no doubt about it. I love old music from the 80ties but going to Machu Picchu I would have preferred Andean Music.

Great service, food, and experience from Machu Picchu to Poroy Station
Oct 2019
We were told one MUST do the Hiram Bingham train. We decided to use that service on our return to Cusco (less expensive than service to Machu Picchu). What an elegant and pampered experience! That experience started at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, where passengers were invited to a private tea in the dining room. We were then transported down to town in our own buses and escorted to the VIP Lounge in the train station. We were then personally escorted to our own table in a train car. Erasmo provided the great service: water, drinks, wine, more wine, and several courses of food. The bar car had a fun (and loud) 3-piece rock band for entertainment that was far more fun than expected. This historic (100+ years old) had a very rough ride (which makes dancing in the bar car challenging) and proceeded at a snail's pace (less than 20 MPH when we checked). The rough ride is the only reason I did not give this experience 5 stars. (I would have given 4.5 stars if that rating was possible.) However, this was a memorable, once-in-a-lifetime experience that capped our visit to the fabulous Machu Picchu citadel.

The Train almost stole the attention from Machu Picchu
I have arrived at Poroy station from Cusco .The train staff were all waiting to check travellers in .Impeccable dressing and manners .The manager (Javier) was welcoming and checking every thing .
They assigned a member of staff to every passenger and took luggage away while We enjoyed a life Peruvian show and drinks .
The journey was amazing and the band on the train made the time fly .It just felt right .Everyone was attentive but respectful of private space .
We had three course meal ,The starter and desert is worthy of Michelin stars.
We left the train with our guides and buses
Clear instructions and excellent English .
We had souvenirs and left the train with bottles of water to accompany our journey to Machu Picchu .Nick our guide was great and experienced.
We ended the day with fantastic afternoon tea at the Sanctuary lodge
The train is clean and well maintained without any faults.
If you want to experience Machu Picchu in luxury then it’s worth every Penny
