My girls and I had plan to do more than just the quick trip to the touristy spot of the great wall by tour bus. After consideration of the available tours, we chose to take a more private tour with a hike along the wall...More
Thrill-seekers will love this private Great Wall trekking tour that takes you from the wild, unrestored Jiankou section to the well-known stretch at Mutianyu. Discover the Great Wall in its renovated and unrenovated states as you hike with a private guide, following a route that would be almost impossible to find independently. Tour includes lunch and round-trip door-to-door transportation.
After pickup from your hotel, travel in climate-controlled comfort to Xishanzi village in Huairou country. Hike cross-country for an hour or so to reach the Jiankou Great Wall, and climb the tower for sweeping views of the steep sections to the west and east.
Hike to the Niujijiaobian, an extremely steep and dangerous section, where your guide will show you an alternative route. Break for snacks and catch your breath before you hike along the wall to the start of the renovated Great Wall at Mutianyu. You will walk several hours from here before enjoying lunch in a local Chinese restaurant and returning to your hotel.
