Located on the banks of Klong Bang Luang on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River, Baan Silapin (The Artist’s House) is a hidden gem devoted to preserving Thai culture. Here you'll experience what life in Bangkok was like before the concrete jungle took hold. The wooden house, over 200 years old and lovingly restored by its owner, sits at the heart of a small community of rustic shophouses which are connected by a wooden walkway that follows the edge of the klong (canal).

Nice experience to get the overview of Bangkok
The guide Siri was really kind and fun, she took authorized pictures of me in every spot at the same time she showed in our tour the must sees of Bangkok. She also was mindful of bringing us water and attentive to the questions. In two hours I got to see the musts of the city, which was great as an introduction on my first night at Bangkok. Booked by Civitatis and I would recommend a more specific meeting point because even when I arrived on time the point was slightly different. Also the story for each point visited could be improved to be more understandable.

      Great get a way
It was a fantastic trip and a great get away from Bangkok. It was a great hike and definitely a challenge for a beginner hiker. Make sure to wear full sleeves and trousers. Met some absolutely lovely people and your guide was really helpful. The only improvement would be for the guide to match the pace with the everyone so, if anyone needs help the guide can be there for you.

      Genuine and amazing experience!
I chose to do this trip on my birthday and it was the best gift I gave myself! I went for the 5 am tour, hoping that it would not rain (in a time when it rained every day for a few days) and luckily, it didn't. The transportation provided was in a red Songthaew and that made the whole trip a lot better. A genuine experience! We went straight to Doi Suthep Temple hoping to see the sunrise and view from the top of the hill, but it was cloudy. Even so, that was not a problem, because at that hour the place was almost empty, just us, the monks and a few other people. We went around and our wonderful guide, Amy, told us so many things about the culture. She was really knowledgeable, fun and friendly! I liked her a lot. After a tour around she gave us some time for ourselves and it was great because, at that hour, the place was mostly empty and I got to enjoy the tranquility of the place. We also got to participate at the monks alms ceremony and that was also a beautiful experience to have. After we went to visit Wat Pha Lat, the temple in the jungle, which was amazing! Definitely my favourite temple of what I saw so far in Thailand. The atmosphere around, the water running next to it, the scenery and the sounds around, everything was great! Again, because it was still early in the morning, there were not so many people and we got to experience the peace and tranquility of the place. The tour finished with an easy 2km hike down through the jungle on the monks trail. Everything was great! I'm happy I chose this trip for my birthday!

      River Kwae and Erewan park
Wonderful experience to see the river Kwae, bridge and train, and to remember the POWs who built the railway and bridge. The Erewan falls were amazing - great swimming and beautiful scenery, even with a short monsoon downpour. The fish nibbling is strange at first but you get used to it. Thanks to our wonderful guide Na for all her knowledge and for taking great photos, and to our good driver Nuvo. A wonderful experience.

Wonderful day trip into the history of Siam
Beautiful tour with Wan, who was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Ayutthaya and patiently answered all my questions. I recommend going for the tour that leaves early morning as a bit less hot and a bit less crowded. Only comment I'd point out is that we saw some elephants that were carrying passengers on the pavement. Given how hot the pavement is, one feels pity for these poor animals. Overall, left with a much better understanding of the culture and history of Thailand, thank you Wan!

A pleasant journey into the history of Thailand
We left early in the morning from the center of Bangkok. We had a very comfortable car with a nice Mai driver. We were also accompanied all the way by the wonderful guides Siri and Fluke! In each place, they tell in detail about the history and how the Thai population lives now. They took wonderful photos and showed us the best places to watch the train. In Auyuthaya, we were also shown many good places to take photos and told interesting details of this place. The guys speak English well and they are really interested in what they are doing. I recommend this tour!

Highlight of our time in Chiang Mai, Brilliant guide and a fantastic tour overall.
Our tour guide was amazing, we thoroughly enjoyed this trip! Racing around Chiang Mai in a TukTuk, from temple to temple was the highlight of our trip. Every place we had lots of time- we never felt at all rushed, our tour guide explained many interesting details surrounding the temples. And they look incredibly beautiful at night time also! Rounded off with a trip to the Bazaar. Would highly recommend to anyone travelling in Chiang Mai. Tip: The guide was also more than happy to take pictures of ourselves at each temple, and spoke absolutely brilliant English.

I recently participated in a Bangkok Canal Tour, hoping for a unique perspective on the city from its historic waterways. Unfortunately, the experience fell significantly short of expectations for several reasons.

Firstly, there was not enough time spent on the boat itself. The allure of a canal tour is to explore the intricate network of waterways that define Bangkok's charm and history. However, the actual time on the boat was disappointingly brief, giving us only a fleeting glimpse of life along the canals. The majority of the tour was spent on land, which was not what I had anticipated.

Additionally, an excessive amount of time was allocated to visiting temples. While the temples are undoubtedly beautiful and culturally significant, the tour's itinerary included too many of them. This imbalance meant that we spent long periods walking through temple grounds instead of enjoying the scenic and serene canal views from the boat. The experience felt more like a temple tour with a brief boat ride rather than a true canal tour.

Moreover, the tour was marred by poor time management, particularly due to other customers not adhering to the set meeting times and places. This caused unnecessary delays and extended waiting periods, significantly cutting into our already limited time on the water. The lack of punctuality and coordination was frustrating and detracted from the overall experience.

Given these issues—insufficient boat time, an overemphasis on temples, and excessive waiting due to poor organization—I cannot recommend this canal tour.

Dear Heike, Thank you for leaving a review, although it's not the kind of review we are always hoping for. We are sorry to hear that the canal trip did not meet your expectations. If time permits, we usually only get off the boat at Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen where the tallest Buddha in Bangkok can be found. So I am a bit surprised to hear that the trip included 'too many' temples. Perhaps you can reach out to me directly as I would like to have more information and discuss it with the guide. Meeting time for your tour start was at 9:30 AM with a 10-minute grace period (which is also mentioned on the tour page and in the confirmation we sent after booking). We clearly warn participants about Bangkok's notorious traffic, but it can still happen people are a bit delayed, so we think it's fair to provide a 10-minute grace period. Despite your negative experience on our tour, I hope you had a wonderful stay in Thailand. With warm regards, Dave

Hello, I would love to commend Miss Rampal Chanthornpratak as a goddess among longtail boat tours. She was oh so kind, caring, and competent as she guided our experience along the Bangkok Canal. The boat is a bit hard to enter and exit, and Miss Chanthornpratak was so helpful as I needed a steady hand to get in and out of the boat. We were able to stop and visit "Artist's House" on our way, and she enabled us to spend a bit of time there to buy and support local artists. It also provided an opportunity to glimpse old world charm in a green setting; however, without her careful preparation and instruction, the time would not have unfolded as well as it did. Well done, Miss Rampal Chanthornpratak on your excellent service and as a representative of your wonderful country. I would highly recommend going on the longtail boat tour due to the incredible flair and gentle guidance of the tour guide.

Very interesting trip on the canals learning about the history of the “khlongs” in this area of Bangkok. Tack was our guide and he was great - we highly recommend booking your tour with him. He was very knowledgeable and we were very interested to learn about the royal, more formal temples versus the community temples. We saw monitor lizards sunning themselves and fed the fish in the art workshop area- this part along the canal is a heritage area preserved in the old style and we also got to fed the cat fish - also protected. For me the highlight was seeing the 69 metre tall Buddha. A tour not to be missed!

The 2 hour boat tour consisted of 2 stops (one at the big Buddha and another at the artist market). The view from the canal is amazing and we had a chance to see thai life. I definitely recommend doing this activity in the morning as it’s not energy intensive.

The canal boat tour was really amazing! Our guide was really helpful and had lots of information for us. Baan Silapin is a very interesting place with so much to explore. We had free time to roam around which was amazing. Furthermore we got to go inside a small temple near Baan Silapin and learned a lot about traditions around the temple. The boat tour had so many magical moments like when we first saw the Big Buddha from far away and later on from close sight. I went on the tour starting at 3.30pm so when we came back to the dock in the end I was able to see Wat Arun in beautiful slowly setting sunlight.
The only downside was the bad air and therefore gray sky but that's in no way the fault of the organizer. Just as a small tip for future participants to go on the tour in a season with clearer air so the views will be even more amazing! I will definitely come back to participate in the boat tour again when the sky is clear!

Guide was very forthcoming. Sadly not everybody heard all speaks as the long boat's motor makes quite much noise. We took an 12:30PM reservation which might not been the best idea for the sun being straight up. Luckily lockgates where open for us and so we had time to visit the new big buddha statue that was started in 2017 and is called the covid buddha. Tour also goes to the artist town of Bangkok which is a nice spot to relax and spend some money on local handcrafted works.

We were lucky to have a friendly tour guide, it was a nice experience. Meeting point was not that hard to find. The meeting point is 5 to 10 minutes away from the flower market, we would recommend to reserve an hour before meeting time. We bought some fruit and sweets at the flower market before the tour. We did the 4:30pm tour, to catch the evening light. We ended the tour at the pier across Wat Arun and went up a roof bar with a view of the temple and took amazing pictures. Overall, this is a very well arranged tour.

We had a small group of 3 of us on this tour. It was great because it's not a crowded tour and the guide is so friendly and professional. Unlike many other tours where you feel like you've been corralled into a tourist trap, this experience is quite the opposite. We felt like we had personal space and enough time to explore the places we visited. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to explore Bangkok without the hassle of the hard-sell markets.

The boat tour through Bangkok was a great experience. Our driver, Siri, safely navigated us through the canals and rivers while sharing interesting information about the city. The tour offered a unique view of Bangkok and was definitely a highlight of our trip. I would recommend a boat tour through Bangkok to anyone looking to experience the city from a different perspective.

not recommended at all! The tour lasted 2.5 hours, of which we spent at most 20 minutes on the river. We were funneled through a souvenir village for half an hour and had to wait in front of a gate for 1.5 hours! Stuck in the boat our tour guide left us with the words "you stay here, I have stuff to do" and the boat driver kept offering that we could get off the boat and take a taxi, of course at our expense! it felt a lot like a scam... don't do it!
