What to Expect
Meet your guide at pickup from your San Ignacio accommodations and drive to the nearby archaeological site of Xunantunich, crossing the Mopan River on a traditional hand-cranked ferry to reach the hilltop ruins. Learn the history of this ancient Maya city as you explore the remnants of palaces, ball courts, and the imposing El Castillo temple, which offers expansive jungle views from the top.
Take a break for an included lunch before heading to the entrance of a massive underground cave system. Climb into a sturdy inner tube and float through caverns once used by the Maya for ceremonial purposes and filled with sparkling stalagmite and stalagmite formations. Back in the light of day, dry off for the return to your San Ignacio hotel.
