I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to get up close and personal with one of the greatest historical sites in the world. Reggie was a excellent guide sharing all of the little details of this great Mayan city. I also loved the jungle paths that we took to get up close with wildlife as well. Mayawalk is the best! Hands down.

Fantastic tour with Reggie to Tikal! MayaWalk made sure the border crossing was smooth and Reggie was extremely knowledgeable. We loved it! Would recommend MayaWalk for any area tours.

All of the food was incredible and we learned a lot about the region, people, history and wildlife.

It was a great experience to travel to Guatemala to visit Tikal for the day. MayaWalk was very professional in handling the transfer of our group to another driver in Guatemala (Belizian drivers cannot drive tours into Guatemala), walking us through the border crossing where our very capable Guatemalan guide (Regge) met us and led us through a wonderful tour of the Tikal site. The lunch provided was very nice and we felt we were in good hands the entire day. We also appreciated that MayaWalk called our hotel and left a message with the front desk to let us know they were running a bit late for our pickup at the hotel. The MayaWalk office is located right in San Ignacio so it would be easy to drop in with questions or to book another excursion.

We are so happy we booked a day tour to Tikal with MayaWalk!

We met Karim in San Ignacio, and he drove us to the border. He made crossing extremely easy, down to the money exchange. One thing to note: they recommend not taking much cash as there isn’t much to purchase. I wish I had brought a credit card because there’s a neat market you stop at.

We met up with our driver, Walter, and then picked up our guide, Reggie. We had the option to get breakfast and it was outstanding - eggs and Guatemalan coffee and hot chocolate - don’t pass this up if given the opportunity. You will need cash for this as it is optional.

We then drove to the park. I cannot state this enough: Reggie was an absolutely fantastic guide! He showed us so many things that other guides passed by, taking the less traveled jungle hikes, giving us actual chicle to try, explaining the history and the ecosystem. He guided us and also balanced this by giving us time to explore on our own. At the end of the day, we returned to the van and Walter drove us to a different restaurant for another delicious Guatemalan meal.

I never once felt unsafe. Guatemala is a beautiful country, and like Belize, every one of its citizens who we encountered was lovely.

Do bring a water bottle and snacks for you (and some to share with your group). Do bring bug spray and sunscreen. The bathroom facilities in the park are excellent. Wear comfortable shoes as this involves a lot of walking.

At the end of the day, Walter and Reggie brought us to the border where Karim was waiting on the other side. It was a long day but so completely worth it. It was an incredible experience we will never forget.

This tour was not on our original itinerary but everyone we met loved it and they weren’t lying ! We switched up our ruins tour and decided to see Tikal. This trip was amazing and insightful. The border crossing went smoothly. Be sure to get some money at the border crossing. They will tell you the best person for an exchange rate. The tour stops at a place in case you want to buy a souvenir. Reggie was our tour guide and he was fantastic. He provided so much information on the Mayan culture and also takes great photos ! With a small group we were able to see a lot of the ruins. The food at the end of the day was delicious. The juice was great! Def look up guategoodtours.com and ask for Reggie !

We did two different tours with Mayawalk over the course of two days. First we did the Tikal day tour, which was unbelievable!! We were driven to the Guatemalan border and passed off to our guide Regge who then took over. Regge was so knowledgeable, friendly, and willing and able to answer all questions we had about the site. On the way back we stopped for a fabulous lunch. The next day we did the Xunantunich ATV tour with Jorge. He first took us for a trail ride on our ATV’s which was so fun and exhilarating! We then rode all the way to the site of Xunantunich where, again we could not have asked for a better or more knowledgeable guide. Just an all-around wonderful two days spent with Mayawalk!!

This was one of the highlights of our trip. We started with breakfast in Guatemala, since our lunch wasn't going to be until 3:00. Reggie was our guide and provided us with a ton of information. He answered any question our group had. He walked us along the wooded paths to the different ruins, stopping to show us plants and animals along the way. After a great tour we stopped for lunch at a Guatemala restaurant. This was one of the best meals of our vacation. Reggie even let us a stop at a local shop for souvenirs.

I was really excited to see Tikal, however was disappointed that we were unable to see the whole site. It would have also been great to have been given more 'free time' to take photos and admire the archaeology.

Aside from time limits, I did think that the guides were great and the trip was well planned and organised.

The trip to Tikal from San Ignacio was our 3rd and final tour with MayaWalk. Our guide once in Guatamala was Reggie. He was AWESOME! He was so knowledgeable about everything. He is a third-generation Tikal guide! On our way into Tikal, we stopped to order our lunch entrees at this awesome little roadside restaurant. On the way back it was ready! The food was great. A really great way to wrap our trip to Belize. Definitely ask for Reggie...he was great!!!!!!

Wow, what a phenomenal experience. We visited Tikal from San Ignacio via Maya Walks. Highly recommend both the location and the tour company. The location requires some hiking and the entire compound is MASSIVE. Our tour guide ensured we viewed and visited the highlights. It took us a full day - about 2 hours drive each way, 3.5 hours hike, and an hour break for lunch (provided). Our tour guide, Regge, was very knowledgeable about the Mayan and the land we we're in. Here is some tips for future travellers:
- Aside from the obvious, bring a hand towel (you'll be sweating hard), hand sanitizer, insect repellent.
- Wear comfortable shoes and your passport (if coming from Belize)
- If coming from Belize, people may offer for you to exchange US$ to Guatemalan Quitzales (spelling?). Our tour provided lunch and the entrance ticket so realized we really didn't need to exchange money. You'll only need it for souvenirs or snacks.
- At customs, it's Q$7/USD or Q$3/Belizian$. In the country, if using USD, our tour guide said the exchange rate drops to Q$5/USD. But we saw souvenirs that charged Q$8/USD. Go figure.
- You won't be able to visit all the ruins as some has not even been excavated. Case in point is the picture of the hill which actually is a pyramid underneath.
- People will offer to sell you a map at the entrance ($3usd). Don't bother unless you like maps. We didn't end up using it because we were brought to all the key highlights.
- For those fearful of heights, just walk slowly or don't climb at all. You can still enjoy a lot.
