On this 4.5-hour round-trip tour to Mount Vernon, gain a whole new perspective on U.S. history. On the way, a guide provides fascinating historical background and stories about points of interest in Old Town Alexandria that are often unmarked and easy to miss. While most guided tours stick to rigid schedules, you are free to explore George Washington’s former home at your own pace.
What to Expect

Board the bus at L’Enfant Plaza in downtown DC. Rather than navigating out of the city on your own, sit back and listen to on-board commentary during the scenic 30-minute ride to Mount Vernon, home of George Washington.

During the drive, the guide points out landmarks you may have missed have you come on your own, including General Robert E. Lee’s boyhood home and a tavern once frequented by the Founding Fathers. Enjoy the sights of historic Alexandria from the comfort of the coach as you make your way to Mount Vernon.

On arrival, explore at your own pace. Visit the gardens overlooking the Potomac River, the slave memorial and burial grounds, the outbuildings, and the Washingtons’ tombs. No need to purchase tickets in advance, as they are included in the tour.

About 4.5 hours later, return with the guide to the tour’s original point of departure in Washington DC.

Good - a couple of changes could make it even better

Like most of the reviewers, we had Charles Smith as our tour guide. I've never encountered any guide as nice and as genuinely enthusiastic about what he shows his guests. However, after about 15 minutes my spouse and I had splitting headaches from his commentary....More

The tours are included in your ticket price. The bus driver will take everybody to the ticket counter and provide you with ticket to tour all of Mt. Vernon. It's very worth it...I loved it.
