About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- jochemv6200 contributionsFascinating experience to get to know Bratislava and her historyIf you want to get to know Bratislava and her history, this is a great opportunity. We had a great host named Peter who showed us, a group of students, the inns and outs of Bratislava with a lot of enthousiasm and passion which made it very enjoyable. Thank you Peter, we had a great time!Written 28 August 2024
- D6589TDkylek0 contributions6/5 starsIf you are like history and culture this is the trip to do. My tour guide was the man and such a cool guy. We were able to cover a lot of ground and see many sights. It was super interesting to hear about the history of the city and culture Itself. Also the car was so much fun to be in.Written 21 August 2024
- J1103LGjohns0 contributionsExcellent bike tourExcellent bike tour - the communication in the lead up to the tour was excellent and our guide Brano was friendly and knowledgeable. We booked direct with the business and included an extension so we were out for 4.5 hours. Whilst it was a hot day the breeze from cycling meant it was more pleasant than walking and Brano provided some cold drinks which were gratefully received. The cycling was gentle and the whole family enjoyed the trip.Written 12 August 2024
- O6773TYphilipp0 contributionsBest tour of Bratislava by farBooked a tour with Brano and the communication via email and WhatsApp was excellent. He even went so far as to ask what kind of tour I wanted for example what I wanted him to focus on. He showed up at the designated place in Bratislava on time in the retro Skoda he had promised. From the outset of the tour he set the scene and gave us so much information I knew we were in for the best experience. The tour lasted over 5 hrs and it was fascinating. There were even themed drinks and snacks included. Brano was so friendly and welcoming it felt like we were with our best mate showing us around Bratislava in his Skoda. If you want an exceptional tour with a great knowledgeable guide and something a little different I would highly recommend Brano. It's an experience I will never forget and the best thing we did in BratislavaWritten 23 July 2024
- Hilu_130 contributionsBathory Castle ruins for all the familyThe trip to Cachtice (Legends and countryside tour) was amazing. Brano was so fantastic guide. The castle ruins with all the stories of Elizabeth Bathory were worth to see. Also the landscape was breathtaking. Milan Stefanik was something new for us, also interesting. We learned a lot of the history. We didn't have time to visit Piestany, but this was OK for us. Cachtice castle ruins was the main target for us. Authentic Slovakia minivan was good for our small group and there was also the safety seat for little child.Written 10 July 2024
- 446michaelo0 contributionsFrom concrete canyons to communist tasties in a communist era Skoda! We were collected in a communist era Skoda which ran perfectly well with a simplae engine that even I could fix. We visited the residential blocks which have been renovated but when first lived in were so poorly insulated and sound proofed that it was said your neighbour could hear your most intimate moments and secrets from 3 flats away! We paused at the ex secret police HQ which is now the police HQ! and ended up at a Russian war memorial overlooking the river for a communist era picnic with some suspect goodies that are still produced in the country. I should say this was a tour organised by the cruise operator but I guess it sounds the same.Written 8 July 2024
- Sunshine377269812790 contributionsHe has only 5/5 stars review for a reasonOur day tour was an absolutely fantastic experience, thanks to our incredible guide, Brano. From the very start, his deep knowledge and passion for history were evident, making each site we visited come alive with stories and insights that were both captivating and informative. Our journey began in Bratislava, where we explored significant 20th-century landmarks such as the Soviet memorial Slavín, the Iron Curtain zone, and an authentic WWII bunker. Brano's ability to contextualize these sites within the broader sweep of history made this part of the tour particularly poignant and memorable. The drive to Hronsek was scenic and comfortable, providing a perfect opportunity to relax and take in the beautiful Slovak countryside. Upon arrival in Hronsek, we were greeted by the stunning sight of the UNESCO-listed wooden church, a true masterpiece of historical craftsmanship. Brano's detailed explanations about the church's construction and its historical significance added a profound layer to our appreciation of this unique site. Following the church visit, we enjoyed a delightful lunch in the area, where the local cuisine was both delicious and a wonderful introduction to the region's culinary traditions. Our next stop was the retro and semi-abandoned spa town of Sliač. This visit was a fascinating step back in time, offering a glimpse into a bygone era with its nostalgic charm and slightly eerie atmosphere. Brano's knowledge of the town's history and his engaging stories made this stop unexpectedly intriguing and enjoyable. The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly our visit to Banska Stiavnica, a UNESCO World Heritage mining town. The town's rich history and picturesque scenery were breathtaking, and Brano's vivid narratives about its mining heritage and historical importance brought the entire experience to life. His enthusiasm and expertise were infectious, making our exploration of this charming town both educational and deeply engaging. The drive back to Bratislava provided a peaceful conclusion to our day, allowing us to reflect on the myriad experiences and insights we had gained. Brano's exceptional guidance throughout the tour was the cornerstone of this unforgettable journey. His passion, knowledge, and storytelling ability made this a five-star experience from start to finish. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore Slovakia's rich history and beautiful landscapes, especially with Brano as their guide.Written 14 June 2024
- raxet0 contributionsBEST TOUR EVER & WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY!If you're visiting Bratislava and looking for a truly unique and enriching experience, I cannot recommend Brano's tours highly enough. From the moment we met Brano, it was clear that this was going to be an unforgettable adventure. Brano is not only incredibly funny, but also remarkably knowledgeable about every nook and cranny of Slovakia, its history, architecture, and culture. Our journey began with a deep dive into the fascinating world of Soviet brutalist architecture. As someone with a budding interest in architectural styles, I found this part of the tour absolutely captivating. Brano's witty commentary brought these often misunderstood buildings to life, highlighting their historical significance and the stark beauty hidden in their imposing structures. His anecdotes were not only informative but also hilariously entertaining, making the tour both educational and fun. The highlight of our tour was the trip to middle Slovakia to visit some of the region's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Brano took us to the charming town of Banská Štiavnica, a place steeped in history and breathtaking beauty. Walking through its medieval streets, you could almost feel the stories of miners and townsfolk from centuries past. The town is nestled in a caldera of an ancient volcano, and the views were simply spectacular. Brano's deep knowledge of the town's history and his engaging storytelling made the experience even more memorable. Another gem of the tour was our visit to a wooden church, one of Slovakia’s hidden treasures. These churches are a testament to the region’s rich cultural heritage, and Brano's explanation of their historical and architectural significance was fascinating. The intricate woodwork and the serene atmosphere of the church left us in awe. But perhaps the most intriguing part of the tour was our visit to a semi-abandoned Soviet-era spa. This was unlike anything I had ever seen before. The spa, once a luxurious retreat, now stands as a haunting reminder of a bygone era. Brano's commentary here was both poignant and humorous, providing a balanced perspective on the rise and fall of such establishments. Walking through the decaying halls, we could almost imagine the bustling activity that once filled the space, making it a surreal and thought-provoking experience. Throughout the tour, Brano's passion for his country and its history shone through. His ability to weave humor into his extensive knowledge made the entire experience enjoyable and engaging. Whether you're a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique way to explore Slovakia, Brano's tours offer something for everyone. In summary, Brano is a fantastic guide who brings the past to life with his wit and wisdom. Our tour with him was an incredible journey through Slovakia's rich history and diverse architecture. I left with a deeper appreciation for the country and countless memories that I'll cherish forever. Don't miss out on this exceptional tour when you're in Bratislava!Written 14 June 2024

- P3458TVdeborahb0 contributionsBratislava Post-Communist TourReally enjoyed this tour, we learnt a lot about the 20th and 21st Century history of Slovakia, illustrated by many sights and photos and our guide's personal experience of growing up in Bratislava. The visit to the market building and the cheese sample was a particular highlight!Written 12 May 2024
- 469JoeP0 contributionsFascinating tour of post-communist BratislavaGreat tour of the post-communist sights of Bratislava! We really appreciated the flexibility of Authentic Slovakia and our guide Maros who graciously agreed to meet earlier-than expected for our tour because we had to catch a train later. He provided some really interesting stories of what it was like in Bratislava during the cold war era. We highly recommend this experience!!Written 18 April 2024

- sensaver0 contributionsHighly recommendedOne might think that Bratislava has not a lot to offer for a tourist, but Peter and his company proved it wrong for us. Peter showed us places we would never find on our own, he shared a lot of interesting stories about the city, the country and its history. Another great thing is that the tour is customizable so we could pick whatever was more interesting for us. The weather was not super good, raining, but it was one of the best tour experiences we had. We also visited a cozy local pub with local dishes and Peter brought some home made slivovica to warm myself. Highly recommended! When I visit the country again I would definitely go with Peter on another tour.Written 19 February 2024
- Viajera520170 contributionsInteresting, engaging Bratislava tourReally incredible tour, definitely worth doing. Our guide, Brano, was friendly, funny, and personable. We enjoyed hearing about his personal experiences growing up and living in Bratislava. We got to see lots of spots in Bratislava that we never would have seen otherwise and we found the buildings and history very interesting. We do not ever book tours when we are on vacation, but made an exception for this one, and we are very glad we did!Written 6 December 2023

This tour was simply outstanding. And I have done many. Maros our guide understood the socio-economic and cultural history of Slovakia and of the whole of Eastern Europe's internal and international relationships from all angles yet somehow managed to tailor all of the for all of us in a fascinating way. Superb. And the ride itself was marvellous. As was the stop for a beer. I made the mistake of paying twice, having paid months ago online to secure a booking with this must do tour. I was emailed 30 minutes after with a refund. Honest, talented, wonderful. Book it ..... but book early.

Good communication with with both Brano and Peter leading up to the tour date. Numbers swapped in case of any issues on the day. Punctual. Bikes were in great condition. The tour was perfectly suited for us - our lunch spot was really delicious too. Nothing was too much trouble - we didn’t feel rushed etc was a relaxed, and informative day. Would highly recommend - if we had more time we would have done another bike tour whilst there.

Simply the best...I cannot recommend this highly enough. Very friendly, professional and great value. Brano communicated with us in advance to ensure we met up easily & that our bikes were the correct size etc. He had customised the tour based on my question and had quickly assessed our cycling ability to ensure all went smoothly. This of course instantly put us at ease as did his well organised and researched delivery. He is incredibly informative and happily answered all manner of questions that we threw at him.
If you do one thing in Bratislava, then this should be it.

We did a post communism tour with Authentic Slovakia, around 6yrs ago. We had Brano as our tour guide. We had a great tour back then. I reached out to Brano, about our upcoming trip to Europe, and us wanting to do a bike tour with him. Email communication with Authentic Slovakia was wonderful. We also wanted to add the 2hr Iron Curtain tour to the Identity bike tour. This was no problem. We agreed on an 11am start time. Some time before our tour, Brano sent us the details on where to meet up to start our tour. Meetup was easy, and in short order we were off on their very nice, comfortable bikes. Very new models too. Brano did a great job on this bike tour. We had so much fun, and learned so much too. I could go on and on. Our 4+hrs went very fast. Brano was once again a wonderful tour guide. I can almost guarantee that we will be back for a 3rd tour with Authentic Slovakia.
