About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- J1103LGjohns0 contributionsExcellent bike tourExcellent bike tour - the communication in the lead up to the tour was excellent and our guide Brano was friendly and knowledgeable. We booked direct with the business and included an extension so we were out for 4.5 hours. Whilst it was a hot day the breeze from cycling meant it was more pleasant than walking and Brano provided some cold drinks which were gratefully received. The cycling was gentle and the whole family enjoyed the trip.Written 12 August 2024
- Hilu_130 contributionsBathory Castle ruins for all the familyThe trip to Cachtice (Legends and countryside tour) was amazing. Brano was so fantastic guide. The castle ruins with all the stories of Elizabeth Bathory were worth to see. Also the landscape was breathtaking. Milan Stefanik was something new for us, also interesting. We learned a lot of the history. We didn't have time to visit Piestany, but this was OK for us. Cachtice castle ruins was the main target for us. Authentic Slovakia minivan was good for our small group and there was also the safety seat for little child.Written 10 July 2024
- raxet0 contributionsBEST TOUR EVER & WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY!If you're visiting Bratislava and looking for a truly unique and enriching experience, I cannot recommend Brano's tours highly enough. From the moment we met Brano, it was clear that this was going to be an unforgettable adventure. Brano is not only incredibly funny, but also remarkably knowledgeable about every nook and cranny of Slovakia, its history, architecture, and culture. Our journey began with a deep dive into the fascinating world of Soviet brutalist architecture. As someone with a budding interest in architectural styles, I found this part of the tour absolutely captivating. Brano's witty commentary brought these often misunderstood buildings to life, highlighting their historical significance and the stark beauty hidden in their imposing structures. His anecdotes were not only informative but also hilariously entertaining, making the tour both educational and fun. The highlight of our tour was the trip to middle Slovakia to visit some of the region's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Brano took us to the charming town of Banská Štiavnica, a place steeped in history and breathtaking beauty. Walking through its medieval streets, you could almost feel the stories of miners and townsfolk from centuries past. The town is nestled in a caldera of an ancient volcano, and the views were simply spectacular. Brano's deep knowledge of the town's history and his engaging storytelling made the experience even more memorable. Another gem of the tour was our visit to a wooden church, one of Slovakia’s hidden treasures. These churches are a testament to the region’s rich cultural heritage, and Brano's explanation of their historical and architectural significance was fascinating. The intricate woodwork and the serene atmosphere of the church left us in awe. But perhaps the most intriguing part of the tour was our visit to a semi-abandoned Soviet-era spa. This was unlike anything I had ever seen before. The spa, once a luxurious retreat, now stands as a haunting reminder of a bygone era. Brano's commentary here was both poignant and humorous, providing a balanced perspective on the rise and fall of such establishments. Walking through the decaying halls, we could almost imagine the bustling activity that once filled the space, making it a surreal and thought-provoking experience. Throughout the tour, Brano's passion for his country and its history shone through. His ability to weave humor into his extensive knowledge made the entire experience enjoyable and engaging. Whether you're a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique way to explore Slovakia, Brano's tours offer something for everyone. In summary, Brano is a fantastic guide who brings the past to life with his wit and wisdom. Our tour with him was an incredible journey through Slovakia's rich history and diverse architecture. I left with a deeper appreciation for the country and countless memories that I'll cherish forever. Don't miss out on this exceptional tour when you're in Bratislava!Written 14 June 2024
- lucytP291HZ0 contributionsAn absolute must do experienceSimply the best...I cannot recommend this highly enough. Very friendly, professional and great value. Brano communicated with us in advance to ensure we met up easily & that our bikes were the correct size etc. He had customised the tour based on my question and had quickly assessed our cycling ability to ensure all went smoothly. This of course instantly put us at ease as did his well organised and researched delivery. He is incredibly informative and happily answered all manner of questions that we threw at him. If you do one thing in Bratislava, then this should be it.Written 8 April 2024

- Compass340704995950 contributionsSo much to think aboutMaros was a fantastic guide, and he drove us by Skoda and transported us by stories and facts to so many fascinating places and times. Our hope was to get a window into life and attitudes and thought during Soviet times and our hope was completely fulfilled. Maros is personable, fun, well prepared, thoughtful, open to questions and discussion, frank and respectful. We recommend this tour without reservation. And it was fun to see how other drivers and pedestrians looked at us in our stylish Skoda!Written 25 October 2023
- charlottelT6443NP0 contributionsGreat Guided Bike Tour Around BratislavaIn October 2022 I took the Bratislava Identity Bike Tour with Braňo, and close to a year later I still remember how fun it was! In a bit over 4 hours we cycled an easy 11 mi/18 km through Bratislava's Old Town and across the Danube to places such as old WWII military bunkers. Braňo was a very outgoing and entertaining guide, and the stories he told about Bratislava/Slovakia/Czechoslovakia were fascinating - not just your standard "This church was built by this king in year XXXX," but modern history, politics, and things to really give you a feel about what it's like to live/have lived in Bratislava. This bike tour was the best thing I did during my trip to Bratislava. I highly reccomend this bike tour as well as Authentic Slovakia as a company. If I were to ever take more day tours in the Bratislava area, I would definitely book another tour with them!Written 28 September 2023
- joesI1473QM0 contributionsOutstanding - book it!This tour was simply outstanding. And I have done many. Maros our guide understood the socio-economic and cultural history of Slovakia and of the whole of Eastern Europe's internal and international relationships from all angles yet somehow managed to tailor all of the for all of us in a fascinating way. Superb. And the ride itself was marvellous. As was the stop for a beer. I made the mistake of paying twice, having paid months ago online to secure a booking with this must do tour. I was emailed 30 minutes after with a refund. Honest, talented, wonderful. Book it ..... but book early.Written 15 September 2023

- Scenic513526978690 contributionsGreat tour highly recommend to see the city by bikes!Good communication with with both Brano and Peter leading up to the tour date. Numbers swapped in case of any issues on the day. Punctual. Bikes were in great condition. The tour was perfectly suited for us - our lunch spot was really delicious too. Nothing was too much trouble - we didn’t feel rushed etc was a relaxed, and informative day. Would highly recommend - if we had more time we would have done another bike tour whilst there.Written 12 June 2023
- 434jodyb0 contributionsFantastic afternoon in and around BratislavaWe had a great tour with Brano in his Skoda. We really enjoyed the way he included more personal and local anecdotes with some parts of the history of the city. The accompanying photo book was also interesting! Definitely recommended if you’d like to see beyond the old town of Bratislava!Written 3 May 2023
- PhilippGoebel0 contributionsPerfect experience - absolute recommendation! We had a trip with Marek today and it was absolutely fantastic! Very informative, humorous and with a super combination of many sights and details. If you’re in Bratislava, please make sure you book this trip - it is 100% worth it. Highlight of our three days here!Written 31 December 2022
- Trek522829967350 contributionsFantastic way to explore Bratislava city and Devin castle!Highly recommend this company! ‘Brian’ and Peter, the brothers who own Authentic Slovakia, and Martin, a new member of their company, are fun, energetic and knowledgeable. My friend and I did their private city bicycling tour and Devin Castle/communist ruins hiking tour. We saw a lot, learned about the complicated history and changing culture of Bratislava, Slovakia and the surrounding cities and countries, enjoyed the outdoors and got exercise. Their personal anecdotes and family stories added to our understanding of life under communism. As an added bonus, they provided ‘communist’ snacks - tasty soda and cookies brands/products that have been around since soviet era!Written 30 November 2022

Had a fab time on our tour of post-communist Bratislava. Maros, our guide, was really knowledgeable about the history of the city throughout the 20th century and the five of us on the tour learnt loads. Would definitely recommend - a fascinating insight!

We booked the post communism tour as a group of 4 friends spending New year in Bratislava. We were overwhelmed by just how good this tour was. Our guide Maric took us round the city and over to Austrian boarder in an old VW van and showed us areas of the city and its history we would not have seen without the tour. It was fun and informative and I can't recommend this tour enough. Big thanks to Maric for a memorable morning.

This tour was great. Our guide Maroš was very informative and gave us lots of knowledge about life under communism and how it ended.
The tour covered lots of sights including the Slavin war memorial, and the area where the iron curtain was at the edge of the city.
Great trip, and would recommend to anyone visiting the city

Juro was an informative and friendly guide who was very happy to share his knowledge of his home city with us. The personal aspect that he gave to this history tour was fascinating and made it all the more interesting, hearing about the contrasting experiences of his own and his parents upbringing and lives in Bratislava. Travelling in a 30 year old Skoda really added to the whole experience - it's a long time since I have actually had to wind a window down for the aircon. It seemed that Juro was uttering a silent prayer for it to start every time he turned the key!
A fascinating tour and we felt good value for money. Definitely recommended.

The tour was great! My girlfriend and I chose to opt to experience the old Škoda car experience. We ended with another person which was good as It was a nice dynamic. The tour itself was really good. Peter the guide was very knowledgeable of both the communist era history and general knowledge of the area (he grew up here). My favourite part of the tour was hearing the personal stories of himself and his family as well as giving as some goodies to try which have a nice context to general life in Bratislava. Peter made us feel comfortable, was funny and a fantastic tour guide all round. Communication was great. The tour was slightly over schedule but it was ideal as we got to see and learn more (which he was happy to show us more). If you are looking for a nice whistle stop tour of Bratislava, this is the one. A final point on the car, go for the old classic car over the modern car, it adds a funny/interesting dynamic to the whole tour. I initially thought the tour was a tad expensive but now doing the tour, it was definitely worth it, if you can get 3 people doing the tour, the price works out nicely. Thank you again peter!

Went on the Post Communism Tour with the Urban Explorer add on and I have to say it was the highlight of our trip to Bratislava. Our guide Maros was superb, very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The gifts of free booze and something to eat were a nice touch. It was well worth the money and it was particularly interesting to tour an abandoned subway station and derelict maternity hospital. Maros was such a great guide that even my teenage daughters really enjoyed the experience. I would urge anyone looking to try something a bit different when in Bratislava to book with this company. You won't be disappointed.

Our tour guides gave us a tour on an old Skoda and van with stops around the city, and were informative & entertaining throughout. Their personal recollections of the era were particularly insightful and enabled us to see a different side to the city that we probably would not have otherwise come across. A thoroughly enjoyable 2 hours and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Bratislava
