About
Not only will you discover how the average Czech lived, worked and played under communism, but you will also hear stories and anecdotes from your local guide, who will bring the old days back to life! You will also see historical photos of the events, people, buildings and statues, many of them now destroyed. We spend 2 hours walking around Prague, seeing iconic places of recent history such as the Old Town Square, Vaclavske Square, Narodni street. Then we enjoy 30-mins break for a lunch or Kofola drink in an authentic canteen from 70s. Finally we visit a Nuclear shelter, which evoke the paranoia of the 1950's. The bunker admission fee 130 CZK (5 EUR) is included in the price. We like dialogue, so the group size is limited up to 15 people. Look for the guide holding a blue umbrella with a sign "Prague Extravaganza Free Tour".

Hear about the formation of the Czechoslovakia Republic in 1918, the dark days of Nazi occupation and the liberation by the Russian Red Army in 1945. Admire the monumental buildings of the Old Town Square and stand on the spot where Communist party leaders celebrated their victory in 1948. Learned so much!
Aug 2021
Klara provided us with the rich story of communism in Czechoslovakia, supplemented by photos and sites, concluding in an actual nuclear bunker revealing a plethora of detailed objects and rooms that conveyed the mentality of communism in the country. We are very lucky and enriched to have learned this story, and grateful to Klara for the kind and personable way she led the tour, involving great conversation, personal anecdotes, and humor. I would recommend that anyone interested in Czech history take this tour!

Awesome experience!!
Jul 2021 • Solo
I am a communism geek and I needed this tour sooo much and it definietly satisfied my expectations. My tour guide Tereza, she is an awesome guide with tremendous amount of knowledge who does not stutter while responding much detailed questions and gives you great information (which of it is, most of the time, insider information) as she lived in some of this communist era in Czechoslovakia.

I had so many doubts before the tour, (what to choose, why this company etc.) but I’m glad that I’ve picked ExtraVaganza, I DEFINIETLY recommend the company and the tour - with or without the prior knowledge regarding communism in Central Europe.

Very interesting tour - great guide
Aug 2020
I was fortunate to have Teresa as my tour guide. She is not only passionate and extremely knowledgeable about Prague, she lived through the period of communism and offers first hand insights of what that was like at the time. I highly recommend this tour and encourage supporting this company during the crippling impact of Covid-19 on tourism.

Interesting historical tour
We did the communism tour and greatly enjoyed it! The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. As she was 13 in 1989, she could also share her own memories, which was interesting. As a historian of Soviet Russia I am always wary of guides who oversimplify or distort history but this time there were no mistakes of this type (although the tour is of course tailored for an audience without prior knowledge about the history of the region).

Made communism feel real
Mar 2020
Klara used her memories, her personal sense of Czech frustration and joy of Communism. As a sixty-something from the US I had one word to describe Communism - BAD. We learned that Communism was a choice that provided 0% unemployment and a satisfied working class. But a part of the system was fear. And the Atomic Bomb. Which required a fallout shelter/bunker for the “more equal” people - the elite - located under the Communist Four Star hotel, Jalta. We entered the bunker, simulated the shower, were offered gas masks, recirculated the air, tried the phones and electronics, and held the machine guns used by border guards. We spent nearly an hour in the bunker and it felt scary-real because Klara had real facts and history to reinforce our experience.

Oh, by the way, the lunch we had in the 1970’s style “canteen” was superb, with local dishes and amazingly affordable. After the the long walk, we were ready to sit, eat, and converse. Klara is a champion of hosting. We were lucky to get her as our guide.

Our tour group, including my wife, enjoyed re-living and re-counting the experiences long after the tour.

Tour was time well-spent!

Interesting tour

Very interesting perspective from our guide Tereza.
The visit to the 1970 decor canteen was fun and the bunker itself was fascinating- a lot of effort went into to planning for nuclear war in those days.

Brilliant tour
Feb 2020
Our tour guide Tereza was fantastic! We lucked out with only the three of us in the group. Tereza was a font of information on this fascinating era in Czech history - from the war to the Velvet Revolution she really knew her onions, including all the multiple questions we had. The lunch stop was a real time capsule moment and the bunker tour was so interesting- especially because it was under a hotel built exclusively for communist party officials and all the rooms were bugged! Book this tour - it’s 3+ hours but we were absorbed the whole time.

Hello, Happy to hear that you've enjoyed the time machine back to the 70s during the lunch in a working-class canteen. Also I am pleased that you found Tereza's stories interesting for the whole 3,5-hour tour. Thank you very much for your opinion:) Kind regards, Klara the founder
