Overview
Watching the Penguin Parade is a highlight for visitors to Phillip Island, where every night hundreds of tiny penguins return to their nests on Summerland Beach. This evening tour is ideal for those short on time, with round-trip transportation from Melbourne, a visit to the Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre, and a choice to watch the parade from the beach or enjoy a closer view from the Penguins Plus viewing platform.
What to Expect
After being picked up from your central Melbourne hotel in the mid-afternoon, set out on the around 1.5-hour journey to Phillip Island. Traveling aboard an air-conditioned coach, head south towards the coast and admire the scenery along the Yarra River. Arrive at the fishing village of San Remo, where you will cross the bridge to Phillip Island.

The first stop of the evening is at the Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre, where you can learn more about the island’s native wildlife, hear about ongoing conservation efforts, and discover fascinating facts about the little penguins—Phillip Island is home to the largest colony in Australia.

Arrive at Summerland Beach, on the southwestern coast of Phillip Island, in time to watch the nightly parade. Depending on the tour option chosen, either find a place on the beach or watch from the comfort of the Penguin Plus Viewing Platform, and enjoy seeing the hundreds of little penguins waddling back up the beach to their burrows.

At the end of the evening, return to Melbourne and enjoy views of the illuminated city on the drive back to your hotel.

Penguin Parade

Our driver Jeff was excellent and very informative. The tour was good value for money and we saw Churchill Island, the Nobbies, the Koala Sanctuary and the Penguin Parade

Nature Tour - no human staging!

Probably the main reason to visit Phillip Island is to witness the nightly migration of thousands of tiny penguins from the ocean to inshore houses. A totally natural phenomenon timed by the evening darkness, it may occur anytime in the 30-40 minutes after sunset. NO...More

Do the Underground Experience

The Underground experience is worth the extra cost, especially when it is cold and windy. The penguins walk right past the viewing windows, and there is a monitor inside so you can see when the groups emerge from the ocean and be prepared for their...More
