Overview
Choose from several different options—snorkeling, scuba diving, or a ride on a semi-submarine—to explore Michaelmas Cay on this full-day tour from Cairns. This excursion allows travelers of different desires and abilities to have access to the Great Barrier Reef and is led by a marine biologist who will provide information on the protected cay's environment and residents, including thousands of migratory seabirds.
What to Expect
After checking-in at Cairns' Reef Fleet Terminal,  step aboard the day's vessel for a 22-mile (40-kilometer) ride to Michaelmas Cay. Leave the coast and find a spot in the shaded cabin or out on the sun deck to watch the scenery. Listen to an informative presentation by the staff marine biologists to learn about the protected cay and its importance as a nesting ground for thousands of migratory seabirds.

Once you arrive, spend four hours on shore however you wish. This tour allows travelers of all levels and abilities to explore the Great Barrier Reef via snorkeling, introductory scuba diving, or a boat ride on a semi-submersible.

Back on the boat, enjoy a hot and cold buffet lunch to refuel. (Morning and afternoon tea are also included.) The marine biologist guides will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the cay's unique marine environment.

There were 3 languages spoken (English, Japanese and Spanish) to inform, and brochures in other languages (amongst ones Italian)....More

Perfect day, even if you're not a great swimmer

This was a fantastic day trip out to Michaelmas Cay. It takes around 2 hours to sail there, during which they brief you on how to use the snorkel equipment and provide a talk from the marine biologist which was very interesting. Once at the...More

First I have to say that I had my first scuba experience on this tour and I loved it! Jordan was a fabulous instructor and I felt safe the entire time. I only wish the diving had lasted longer. The biologist presentation was nice and...More

Absolutely! Bird watching was a highlight of the trip as the Cay is a nesting site for a wide range of birds. When we were there it was at about 30% of its maximum nesting population but that was still thousands of birds... More
